I think allowing slightly larger filesizes would help alleviate some of the problems that users get when trying to upload something. (Sometimes you'll be just over the limit and it can be furiating to be that close but not be able to upload it). I agree though, no animated gifs please! My PC can't handle it!

we don't all have a top-of-the-range gif-handling computer, you know, Ench.
GAWD. such a show off. |
Avatar filesize has been increased to 20kb. Now quit your whining.
|
That was easy. I wonder what else we could get if we all rallied together.

(sadly, they haven't set up any way to auto-stop a video at a certain point. You can stop after the soundbite) |
So if we pester you enough you'll add it, but it won't be funny when anyone uses it?

Thank you.

I also didn't notice your brackets. |

Animated avatars still aren't allowed, though.
|
Really? They work if you're using Firefox or Opera to upload them and view them properly.
|
I said they're not allowed, I didn't say they didn't work.

Plus, small animations shouldn't take long to load at all. It will only take a while if you're viewing them on DSi Browser/Opera Mini (for brick phones) or if you've got a really bad dial-up connection. IE will skip them also. |
oh, well that's okay then. upload your avatar. get ready for it to magically disappear.

He's implying that after you upload a new animated GIF, a mod will swoop in and delete it. But he's mistaken. It won't disappear; it just won't upload at all.
|
Then how come he managed it?
|
I'm pretty sure he uploaded that avatar before the rules were changed. Either that, or vBulletin fucked up. Both are equally believable.
|
When did the rule change? I don't remember it, so I doubt it was after his join date.
|
Reasonably sure by the rules changing, Nate means he's changed the upload thingy so you can't upload gifs anymore.
Maybe. |
I may have chosen my words poorly; it wasn't a rule per se, but Alcar changed the permissions years ago so that no-one could use animated GIFs. I don't remember when it was precisely, or whether he announced it publically at the time.
When the official forum rules were updated last year, it was introduced formally. |
I think I need to post in this thread to show off my avatar

So what does Oddman do after finding out that his animated avatar was only uploaded through some odd fluke and admits it? He uploads a different animated avatar.
|
:
That said, your animated avatar is still breaching the forum rules. If you don't change it, you'll lose it. Thus making MA's prediction true. EDIT: Also, it's not animating in IE. I haven't decided yet whether that's because IE is smart or dumb. |
I don't see it animating in Chrome either?
|
Same. Also how come Hobo is allowed a .gif? That's just not cricket!

|
You want to snuggle toast? Is Sekto okay with this?
|
Me and him will sandwich the toasts.
