Nothing wrong with a healthy bit of reading!

Elmatto753 03-06-2011 05:58 AM

Yes there is. It's not playing.

Abe speak is NOT one of the four projects to be released this year

Someone should get fired in their PR department. That and Stew should think twice before he Twitters something.

I mean seriously, did he basically just say that a bunch of websites are publishing facts that are completely wrong and that he's happy about that?

Xavier 03-07-2011 04:28 AM

Yep he just did. It is free advertising...

... but also an open door for over-excitement and disappointment.

Wil 03-07-2011 04:42 AM

I never did figure out why that made him happy.

Dynamithix 03-07-2011 06:58 AM

Neither did I.

It's always a nice touch to include a source when you post such claims.

NovaMan 03-07-2011 11:58 AM

The four projects is only abe´s oddysee, abe´s exoddus, munch's oddysee, stranger's wraith.
and nothing more as i know of.

Is the abe speak app a part of abe's hd or something different?

Dynamithix 03-07-2011 12:07 PM

I think you've mistaken the four projects with the four already existing games...

We only know one of the four new projects, because Abe's Oddysee HD is being released in 2012. The only one we know of is Stranger's Wrath HD.

abe619 03-07-2011 12:07 PM

wait, wait so i know all the fuss about the release date and stuff but I didn't see anyone asking about the platform, what platform(s) will it be released on? or is it just ps3?

Nope, all it does is lay the groundwork for a correcting press release which in turn will look something like this on every major gaming site:

JAW, developer of several new Oddworld projects, has said that the 4 projects they announced several months back are not going to be all games, contradicting their original statement that they would be releasing 4 Oddworld games in 2011.

Releasing wrong information and regarding it as free press is a really really really bad idea. JAW being a game developer it's not at all weird that people assume the projects are all games. In fact, I can't imagine what else these so called projects are besides games.

You'd have a point if they released wrong information, but JAW never actually said "four games", did they? Journalists just assumed.

Put my money on one of the projects being an art collection of some kind.

Btw sorry if this has already been asked, but does Strangers Wrath HD count as one of them?

Yes.

If anybody can find the dates between the announcements and pictures for the "Sly Collection" and "Tomb Raider" I think that'll give us a pretty good idea when we'll be seeing new screens for this game.

That would only make sense if those games were developed by JAW and published by OWI. Every company has their own way of doing things.

I posted a quote from Stewart from his formspring account in a different thread in which he confirms that Abe speak is not one of the four projects.

Question : The Abe Speak for iPhone/iPad etc etc is it classed as 1 of the 4 projects to be released by JAW this year and when is the app being released can't be that far away as you said its been finished for a year :)

Answer : Nope, and we're adding stuff to it, sometime in the next couple of months

Xavier 03-09-2011 03:55 AM

Okay, thanks for sharing.

You'd have a point if they released wrong information, but JAW never actually said "four games", did they? Journalists just assumed.

As a game developer you should have the common sense to know that if you announce 'projects' the media is going to assume they are games and report it as such, which is exactly what has happened here.

I don't get why there needs to be all this secrecy. If they just said 'were doing 4 Oddworld projects, not all of which are games' then everything would be fine. But somehow everything surrounding Oddworld has to be covered in a vail of mystery, because god forbid anyone gets any solid information. It was like that with OWI and now it's the same with JAW.

Wil 03-09-2011 01:04 PM

Alternatively, a professional gaming journalist will be very aware that it's possible for 'project' != 'game'. Maybe, since it was encased in a job posting, it was said mainly to encourage prospective applicants rather than make news headlines. Which it shouldn't have done anyway, since JAW had already previously stated that they were working on 4 projects.

Also, OWI's veil of mystery is no surprise since their most easily recognized PR hiccups are the number of times they've let slip many more game concepts than games they've released or are known to be actively developing.

Honestly, do you even pay attention?
