MadmanMad 12-23-2010 09:40 AM

I got an annoying problem with muches oddysee.

There's hardly any sounds!

No music, the npcs don't make any noises (Apart from the mudokon guide dude) and no sound effects for jumping, running, collecting things.

I CAN hear some of the gamespeak sounds, and sound when you press the info buttons.

Anybody know what could be wrong, my sound card isn't broken as all my other games sound works perfectly fine.

Nemo 12-23-2010 09:44 AM

Stranger likes to slow down randomly when running around. It's not really a big issue and it doesn't affect anything, so I'm not going to post my specs. If I can run Crysis, I'm pretty sure I can run this.

Scraby 12-23-2010 09:49 AM

dammit the game is still crashign, and my nerves are,i tried to collect 50 spooce :/

You really want to collect some spooce?

Use the spooce regen power near the door. You'll get out... And find the game will prboably still crash.:D The game is fixed for me however.

Scraby 12-23-2010 10:06 AM

dang 45 spooce collected, and the game crashed :@
i hope i might get 50 and get out of that raisin cave (..)

When Munch is swimming, you must hold shift, otherwise he swims at, quite literally, a snail's pace. Same goes for possesion orbs. This seems a bit unnecesary, but it is really the only flaw in the port.
Did you configure the controls to run instead of walk?

Scraby 12-23-2010 11:04 AM

dang the game crashed when i exited the cave :/

MojoMan220 12-23-2010 11:40 AM

Did you verify the cache files a couple times? I heard that worked for some.

Scraby 12-23-2010 11:48 AM

cache files? ugh... could you explain a bit,it was long time from when i worked with those files, forgot about it...

MojoMan220 12-23-2010 11:58 AM

In Steam, click on 'library' and right-click on Munch, then click on properties, under one of the tabs it will have the option to verify the cache.

ah thx

Don't think teh update is out cause mine has never updated and still has the same problem

Yeah whatever my Steam downloaded for Munch's Oddysee wasn't an update. I got the real update later on. No more crashing, but still missing mouse and screen resolution support. :(

Manco 12-23-2010 03:04 PM

Right now, JAW is focusing on figuring out game-breaking issues and fixing them. They'll be addressing customisation options in a later update.

Munch crashed on me once, but now it's fine. And AO crashed once also, for no reason whatsoever.

Also, a glitch on MO, Spooceshrubs regrow INSTANTLY, you can stack up 100 by chanting in less than 20 seconds.

Crashpunk 12-24-2010 03:08 AM

after yesterdays Patch. MO is working 100% :D

I just need to buy myself a controller

Why would you be complaining about this.

Also, new Oddworld.com post: http://www.oddworld.com/?p=332
:

The primary issue with Munch’s Oddysee was crashing during the very first section of the game, Raisins Cave.

Last night we released a patch for this via Valve’s Steam network, the reports from the customers is that this has fixed the problem for at least 99% of the people suffering with the issue. So we now feel confident that the primary cause of the crashes has been fixed.

With regard to Stranger’s Wrath, the main issue seems to be in relation to performance or speed of the game. The testing we did for this simply wasn’t up to scratch and as such we are paying the price for that now. We are still unsure of the exact cause of the problem.

Yesterday one of the fans discovered that using an older video driver for his ATI card sped the came up unbelievable from 14fps to 90fps.

We are working with ATI to discover the root cause of the issue, and will hopefully be able to update you all on this as soon as we can.

As it is Christmas eve now, we are going to be closing up for a few days, but we will still keep trying to find and fix the Stranger’s Wrath performance issue at our end, and as soon as we have a solid update we will release it.
So MO should be working for most people now, but we'll have to wait until after Christmas for SW's patch. Seems reasonable to me.

Nobody knows whats causing my sound glitch??

It is really fustrating trying to play the game when 80% of it is silent.

Update your sound card drivers.

kjjcarpenter 12-24-2010 04:41 AM

Not so much a complaint, just a glitch. After all, this is the glitch thread also. Thought it was worth noting.

lismati 12-24-2010 04:59 AM

How do you grow Spoceshrubs so fast?

d0mm2k8 12-24-2010 05:19 AM

Damn, the new patch has fucked me over.

The game worked fine before hand, and now it doesn't even start. Shit.

OS: Windows Vista Business
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 1.70 GHz
Graphics card: (Not sure how to find graphics card :/)
RAM: 1.5GB

I'm having endless trouble with Stranger's Wrath (Haven't tried the others). Firstly, it has a nasty habit of black-screening with music still playing (Between loading the menus usually) and replaying the OWI logo with stranger and the Outlaws running around it over and over. If I manage to struggle past these errors the game itself is very laggy and for some reason won't even let me collect the bounty for the first outlaw. (Stranger will just punch, no matter where he is standing in relation to the Outlaw and how long I hold the left mouse key down.) It will also ocassionally lock the game window and refuse to let me tab out until I run Task manager. I am playing on the lowest graphic setting.

Graphics card: (Not sure how to find graphics card :/)

The easiest way to do this would be to either:
  • install Speccy and run it to get your PC's specs, or
  • look up your PC model online and find out what graphics card it comes [pre-installed with (assuming you haven't replaced it).
As for the issues you're having, sounds like the standard issues most people are currently getting. Rest assured JAW will be patching SW soon after Christmas.

Foxtrot Wolfwhistle 12-24-2010 02:41 PM

Thanks, I'll hold on then. I'm really disappointed though, this game looks really unique.

metroixer 12-24-2010 02:42 PM

Played through Munch a bit now that I can play it, got some weird things to point out:

Has the sky always been purple?

Remember how MO was supposed to have day/night cycles?

But seriously, does the rest of the game look okay? Everything in that screenshot looks darker than usual.

d0mm2k8 12-24-2010 03:13 PM

That's probably because the hotkey to turn down the gamma is 'G'.
Whenever I check my health/quarma, it turns down the gamma a bit -.-

Foxtrot Wolfwhistle 12-24-2010 04:14 PM

I tried Munch and I'm encountering the same problem Madman has. The only sounds that play are the gamespeak of abe and Munch and the shaman guide. Cutscenes have all music and sounds but the menus and in-game is problematic.

It's not the WORST thing that I've encountered bug-wise, but it does detract from the overall atmosphere...

Paul 12-24-2010 04:40 PM

Patch also works for me, I can get out of the cave ;D! Now the controls just need polishing off..

Has the sky always been purple?

It always had a purple tinge. The clouds certainly were purple at least and I suspect the rest of the sky would look bluer if you corrected the gamma.

Been tapping the enter key for the last few minutes over a spooce shrub, got me an achievement. Much works great so far, compared it to my xbox version, I hope some HD mods come out for it, that'd rock.

AO so far works fine, havn't tried SW or AE yet.

Edit: No video on SW

Nemo 12-25-2010 03:43 AM

I can't remember if the control setup for Xbox Munch was as god damn stupid as the setup for PC Munch.

The analog sticks are swapped. The menu says that the left stick should control motion, and right stick aims, but it's the other way around.

And the running/walking/sneaking bit is fucked too. There's no switch between the three, I'm either walking, or standing still. I have to hold down the shift key while using the 360 controller, or try to play using the keyboard.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the Oddboxx. It's been long overdue that I play these games again. But it feels like a lot of the issues I've been having could've been fixed with just a bit of playtesting.

Does the driver for your controller come with a control panel to switch these things around? That's what mine does.

The Xbox version had it so that pressing the analog stick slightly was a walk and hard was a run, with pressing in and clicking for sneaking.

I had no clue this thing even had drivers. It's an old Core 360 controller.

Pressing it as far as it'll go just makes me walk briskly, and clicking just resets the camera.

Manco 12-25-2010 10:19 AM

With regards to sound issues - just a thought, but playing the Xbox version of MO on a 360 was generally pretty terrible due to the in-game sound effects being very muted. Could this be related?
