Hmm, why isn't there sky in SW? I have black sky instead.

So, the first thing they give us is just a remake (not exactly original) AND they don't even make it work properly??
Hum. Hum indeed. |

By the way, Munch works perfectly for me now. Thank you JAW for patching it. :) |

Because obviously if we were stupid enough to buy these sad, glitchy excuses for comebacks, then we're too stupid to know when we've bagged a bounty, or to see that there are indeed two Gloktogi guarding Sekto, rather than just one. "NOW THERE ARE TWOOOO?!" No fucking way! How about an achievement for using the crossbow? Or for not fucking falling off of a cliff in the tutorial? WHO'S A SMART PLAYER? WHO'S A SMART LITTLE MONEY BAG? |
Yeah, not including more imaginative achievements in the initial release must be earning them an absolute fortune.

Adding depth to their games beyond making them creative and quirky (trying too hard, imo, as evidenced by their habit of using "Z"s at the end of collective nouns in an attempt to hip-hop up Oddworld in the whitest way possible) is something that's always escaped OWI, and these lackluster "zone completed" achievements are a reflection of that. At least in Stranger, this was somewhat remidied by giving the titular character an opportunity to roam around town, but what he could do was restricted somewhat so they could push the story along. Oddworld is supposedly this vast place with many different species and rich histories, so... show us that. Now I realize that the restrictive nature of the games was due in part to the studios being absolute fuckheads to Lorne and crew, but he doesn't have that excuse to fall back on here, and he's released some pretty unimpressive ports, after about a five year period of spitballing these worthless ideas (like that social network that never saw the light of day?) when he could have been taking the games and expanding upon them with that time. Honestly, who knows what Lorne's been through? Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon, but I really hope if I'm wrong, that he does get on the ball and start actually improving his properties. He's got a whole slew of new opportunities now. He's gonna have extra revenue coming in for it now, and even if it's not that much, I hope he does something with it to improve his games. |
Jesus... achievements are probably the most pointless thing in the world. Like you were saying Dippstikk, I don't need to be told when I've done certain tasks. Achievements in games could have been a cool idea if they actually gave you something in return for your efforts. Unless you find Monopoly money valuable, I don't see the point.

They can be mildly amusing, but certainly nothing to get worked up over.

Half-Life 2 was on Steam for five years before it got any achievements at all while MO and SW have been out all of 4 days? I wouldn't mind in the slightest if I'd seen folks comment casually and constructively that they'd like there to be more achievements, but most complaints I've seen have been rude and dismissive. |
More impression and stuff:
Abe's Oddysee in Japanese is funnily good! The voice acting is very different but still very good. Also new Mudokon Pops and poorly removed finger! :D Munch's Oddysee also plays just as well on VMWare Fusion. SW doesn't work for me in VMWare, must reboot to play. |
Haven't really had any real big problems since release. At least no gamestoppers.
Munch worked fine once I got beyond the tutorial area (and as long as I don't use the mouse for camera control:p) Only issues I have with stranger is perhaps an unstable framerate at times, fluctuating from 50 fps to 25 in the first town area and going lower in heavy action packed sections. My biggest issue with stranger is the missing of mouse filtering causing the first person gameplay to be really jittery and annoying. However : :
I'm just happy to be finally able to play MO and SW as I never found the motivation to get myself an X-box. Kudos for JAW for really looking into all the issues that have been pouring in. Not sure how big their team is but they sure are trying hard and pulling long hours to fix as many issues as possible. Problems where to be expected with the porting of old xbox games to PC. As for the simple achievements...They probably had a bigger focus on actually getting the games to run first instead of trying to implement steam achievements into the old code. But since there really seems to be a big demand I'm sure that they will add in some nice extra ones. But face it, how much original ones can you add apart from "save all fuzzles", "collect xxxxx amount of yyyyy", "don't save a single fuzzle", ... . Looking forward to what the future will bring after the fixes and the HD remaster of stranger:fuzgrin: |
[QUOTE=OddHunter;477248]Apparently you're not the only one to notice this, but here's your answer: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...&postcount=225
Thanks for the info. I was resigned to accept the difference, now I don't have to. Cool. |
Well, a friend of mine bought it for me as a Steam Gift for christmas
I also get lag when I try high resolution, but medium is perfectly playable. One thing is that the controls feel awkward, can I hook up a 360 controller or something? |

Were the textures for Stranger's Wrath and Munch slightly updated? After playing munch for a bit I swear it looks better but it could just be my mind playing tricks on me.
|
munch can only swim for 2 seconds or so, then he is only able to jump through the water. pretty annoying^^
|
:
|
I'm stuck with Munch in the sewers. There's a part which I need to jump, but Munch can't jump on land, and fast swimming and then jumping isn't getting me far enough to go through to the next part...
|
Any idea what exactly I have to do to make it work with my xbox controller?
|
Just try the programm XPadder. It works great with my no-name gamepad and you can select every key on your gamepad with it. So the game things your working with the keyboard but in realtime your using the gamepad. ; )
|
@LIJI: The Japanese Abe's Oddysee is very funny. I ripped some sounds from it a while ago :D

OR you could just wait until they patch MO again to fix the controller issues. |
I was very disappointed to be honest...I cannot play SW because whenever I try it either blackscreens, loops the logo screen constantly or lags really bad, and when I can get it to work the bounty action won't work, so I can't do anything in the game at all. :/
MO is mildly better. The controls are really awkward though, especially when moving. I've also noticed that Abe can walk sideways if he steps on a slope...That's just bad...The biggest issue I'm having with MO is the lack of sound or music. The only thing that will play is SOME of the gamespeak (Neither of the characters say "Get 'em!" which is kinda important when there are Vyykers hurtling towards you from all sides DX) I haven't played AO or AE, I feel a little down about playing any of the Oddboxx anymore...I just hope they get this sorted. It's like they haven't tested the games at all!!! |

Ok on MO the framerate is very slow and brilliant in different places...... help?
|
"No, it's like they haven't tested the games on every single kind of PC ever. As has been said (and will be repeated), it was just released. Give it time."
I guess this is why free BETA trials work well. I'm torn between two opinions. One opinion being that any game that costs money should be relatively bug free (and definitely not crash), the other opinion being that run-time errors are really hard to discover and that we should wait for a patch. If a patch isn't out by January. You have the permission to turn red and start saying "No" in a dull voice whenever someone asks you to do something. |
Lol, I know it's not possible to test EVERY kind of computer, but I'd consider mine to be fairly standard...It just feels like they've tested on the handful of machines in the office and gone, "Yeah it's fine". I mean, the majority of players are having the exact same problems. I'm not going to storm over with all guns blazing and demand a refund, I just hope they work a better testing process next time they release a game on PC. They're just lucky it's a decent pack of games in the first place! :P

Longer range? No trip hazard? :B
|
After playing just 5 minutes of MO I can really really clearly tell that this game is just meant to be played with a controller. Keyboard controls don't cut it on this one, I suspect the same with SW. Glad OWI kept the gamepad option in, so I can hook up my Xbox 360 controller sometime.
