i might help you,i have some gm expirience, but the school is a prob to me,so you can count 50:50 on me

Yeah, me too. This game is gonna be created off spare time, so don't worry about it.

And thanks some more, ScrabTrapMan. This is gonna be great :D

Scraby 09-12-2010 01:09 AM

send me a pm what you need or write here and ill try to make it as best as i can

STM 09-12-2010 02:22 AM

Sorry it poo, I thought it was easier. YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY! EL MENTIROSO!

XD

Scraby 09-12-2010 02:37 AM

we can make a 3d cartoony background and make a bmp of it,wouldnt that be easy?

ColgateCat 09-12-2010 03:19 AM

didn't Oddworld Inhabitants do that too? make 3d models and then make them in 2d?

Scraby 09-12-2010 04:27 AM

yep, models are 3d in game, they made them and animated them in 3d and packed them in 3d

It's still good. I might use it in the game. But differences in the style of backgrounds by different people might be a bit odd. But that's a good thing.

I'm not sure what you're asking there. But I'm gonna stick with what I'm doing at the moment. And, when I get the time, I'll send you a PM of what I need you to do.
Thanks

Phylum 09-13-2010 01:24 AM

I think he means that Oddworld Inhabitants made their backgrounds in 3D than converted/captured them into 2D and he's suggesting you do a similar thing.

Surley one of those 3D's is supposed to be a 2D…

Mudokon_Master 09-14-2010 11:16 PM

I'm not too sure if I know how to do that lol

Phylum 09-14-2010 11:30 PM

Yes, 2D is simpler and, in my view, better for this project.

Various peoples styles are too contrasting, so I reccomend locking one person into the job. You could, alternately attemp organising several people to work on several individual components for each background (STM's floors are much nicer).

Mudokon_Master 09-14-2010 11:43 PM

I agree, but I still think its too big to do all the bgs for one person, even for the Al-Mighty ScrabTrapMan.

Phylum 09-14-2010 11:55 PM

Now, now. Let's not give the poor chap an ego…

AvengingGibbons 09-15-2010 03:38 AM

post me a screen and i'll have a go at it

STM 09-15-2010 07:22 AM

Okay, I'll post you one screen, too see if it looks any good. If it's good, you can help with the game. Make sure you've watched my video on how to do it.

Rofl, thanks I guess. But that was wrong of me, I didn't wanna give you too much of an ego in case you can't do it with assignments/job/whatever. Thanks anyway.
Thanks everyone

pointblanc-slig 09-15-2010 10:48 PM

Epic idea!!!
although is the gameplay still going a bit glitchy
because i noticed that when i was watching the video

keep up the good work!

[QUOTE="Mudokon_Master"]Wow! I like it, man. Do you think you can do more?
[QUOTE]

Assuming you were talking to me, I'm afraid I'm way to busy working on other projects. However, what I did was exceedingly simple. Just install the Gimp and open the image, then pixelise it (I used the pixelised image that someone else posted, but the Gimp does have a pixelise tool). Then I think I used the ... Pastel effect? Something like that. That I used Cartoonify to put black edging on it. Oh, and at some point I increased the saturation as well.

Mudokon_Master 09-23-2010 01:51 AM

Yeah, well I haven't worked on this project in a while, and it's getting quite boring. I don't know if this will ever get finished unfortunately.

AvengingGibbons 09-23-2010 03:05 AM

it is boring.. i did like 1/5 of that image you posted and gave up :/

Mudokon_Master 09-23-2010 11:28 PM

LoL, I know. Too big a task for even a team of people. Plus, I get distracted easily :D

nuf (Lord Loki) 09-24-2010 11:52 AM

If you have some specific problem with programing just tell. I got friend that is very good in game maker.

Mudokon_Master 09-25-2010 04:35 PM

I don't think it's a matter of programming, it's a matter of getting all the backgrounds, sprites, sounds, and programming together for like 2000 screens.

AvengingGibbons 09-25-2010 04:48 PM

Dont continue with what you're doing. Try making something that wont take half as long, like the boardroom level. The boardroom has most of Abe's Oddysees features all crammed into a short level. See how that goes. It seems a lot more doable than does a wholegame remake. Just my opinion :) You could even set up a time trial for it, so ppl can upload their quickest times. Just a thought.

enchilado 09-25-2010 05:13 PM

Or create your own game with completely new puzzles and story.

Mudokon_Master 09-25-2010 05:49 PM

Maybe you guys are right, but I'll do a "boardroom" level with my own story to it or something. But I'll only make it in my spare time.

Crashpunk 09-26-2010 02:17 AM

I've just watched the first video of your game and have you've changed the Carnax's sprites in anyway? because they look really small.

ameba2k 09-26-2010 03:57 AM

I like the look and idea of an 8bit style pixelated AO, I think if you where going to do it though, instead of taking the game images and just pixelating them, choose the four of the most prominent shades of colour and make the image in a series of thresholds first, and then pixelate for effect.

Either that, or work on very small paint/photoshop files with the anti aliasing turned off :) That way the colours don't blend together at the edges, preserving your 8bit look.

Take a look at some screenshots from older 8bit games for some inspiration, im sure you will find it.

STM 09-27-2010 08:39 AM

I had a go at that, it was on hold for ages, I might still have it.
