Maybe it's a new look Companion Cube.

I'm wondering if the pink bar maybe shows some kind of charge level, which you build up by shoving him into power sources and then make him release it by chucking him at stuff.

Companion Cube to Laser
Laser charge into Companion Cube
Pick up Companion Cube
Throw Companion Cube at Turrets
BOOM
Turrets bounce around the room

Or you just have to use him to, you know, block the deadly laser from hurting you?

MeechMunchie 03-05-2011 04:21 AM

I'm aware of the current applications of the Apeture Science Weighted Storage Cube, thank you very much. I was just curious as to whether CC's new paintjob was an aesthetic decision or if it had some effect on gameplay.

Havoc 03-05-2011 06:24 PM

Lol, you said paintjob.

MeechMunchie 03-06-2011 01:26 PM

So I did.

enchilado 03-10-2011 07:54 PM

I've never played Portal 2 :( .

I'm really not sure if that's meant to be a joke or not.

In case you were being serious... neither have we. And we won't for another 37 (USA) to 41 (EU) days.

Dynamithix 03-11-2011 05:26 AM

Either he was trolling or he accidentally put "2" there and he really meant he hasn't played Portal 1.

Or maybe his point was to confuse us. Meh.

Mac Sirloin 03-11-2011 01:49 PM

Maybe he actually has played it and he's covering up.

QUICKLY NATE, WHAT IS HIS HOME ADDRESS

I'M TRUSTWORTHY AS FUCK

MeechMunchie 03-19-2011 11:21 AM

Everyone's first 10 seconds of Portal.

Dynamithix 03-19-2011 11:26 AM

Haha, I saw that yesterday too.

I'm definitely getting Portal 2.

Nate 03-23-2011 03:26 AM

Nice to hear a voice that isn't GlaDOS for a change.

Steamer_KING 03-23-2011 05:59 PM

"That's not a Panel. That's a CRUSHER!" Oh, the lulzy.

Dynamithix 03-28-2011 07:30 PM

Robots, 6 seconds more trustworthy than humans.

Splat 03-29-2011 01:49 AM

We're all going to have fun with science!
Would you rather have the Portal Gun or the Gravity Gun?

DarkHoodness 03-29-2011 02:13 AM

There's a lot more you can do with a portal gun. :) Need an object from a distance? Sure, the gravity gun can pull it toward you, but the portal gun can place a portal underneath it, then place another portal next to you.

Doesn't the portal gun have an attachment on the end for lifting, similar to the gravity gun?

EDIT: Also it looks cooler.

Havoc 03-29-2011 02:48 AM

Portal Gun of course. Oh the stuff you could do with that...

Or the dark energy gravity gun, that thing owns.

Dynamithix 03-29-2011 03:18 AM

Definitely Portal Gun.

MeechMunchie 03-29-2011 04:47 AM

ASPHD, because you look more impressive when you use it. Blasting down a wall to enter a party is a lot less sociable than emerging from it in a halo of light.

SPOILERS AHOY!

Crashpunk 03-29-2011 11:31 PM

Portal gun, since it can act like a Grav Gun (Picking up objects)

Phylum 03-30-2011 12:20 AM

Did I ever mention that I have this preordered?

Because I have this preordered.

ASHPD, but otherwise yes, agreed. Besides, who needs public transportation when you're thinking with portals?

Phylum 03-30-2011 01:10 AM

I'd only take the ASHPD if I cold get leg supports, too.

MeechMunchie 03-30-2011 04:44 AM

I wouldn't be particularly tempted to be flying around at great height anyway. You'll still die if you hit a wall.

Yeah - Or if it's too impractical to keep changing portals you could at least save on transport fees and time by leaving a portal at your departure point, and making another at your destination. Of course you'd have to do that again when you needed to go somewhere else unless you have multiple ASHPDs, 'cause you can only have 2 portals open per gun at any one time, but that'd still be awesome.

MeechMunchie 03-30-2011 08:09 AM

I'd probably just leave one portal on the back of my house and use it to wander with impunity, knowing I could always get back. And the return trip is always the hardest, so it would be good for that.

Daxter King 03-30-2011 12:55 PM

Saw a billboard for Portal 2 today coming home from school. I like that Valve advertises here, they had a different billboard in the same area for L4D2. It somehow makes me feel special.

Dynamithix 03-30-2011 12:57 PM

I wish they'd advertise Valve games in Finland. They don't.

DarkHoodness 04-01-2011 01:30 PM

Count me in as one of the people who just pre-ordered, now that I actually have a PC powerful enough to play it on. :D Awesomesauce.

Been waiting 3 years for this.

Nate 04-05-2011 10:53 PM

Watch it in full screen on 720 or 1080. Read the find print. Laugh.

Dynamithix 04-05-2011 11:49 PM

Valve knows how to make trailers, haha.

mlg man 04-06-2011 01:28 PM

"Just try and get close to that baby, your funeral." - I love this trailer! :D

Epic.

Also, anyone know how to get that Portal Pin for TF2? I thought it would be pre-Order Portal 2 however nobody has got it.

MeechMunchie 04-07-2011 04:57 AM

www.aperturescience.com

They've updated it.

@Nate: Lol at 'Empathy Generator -> Empathy Supressor' and the entire corporte concept of 'Empathy Suppression'.

Also Awww... at 'I'm different...'

Crashpunk 04-08-2011 02:43 PM

Anyone agree with me when I say I like the orginal Cubes to the Portal 2 ones.

Phylum 04-08-2011 08:13 PM

Are you talking about the cubes that reflect thermal discouragement beams? There are different to the weighted cubes which look pretty much the same save for a glowy ring.

DarkHoodness 04-09-2011 12:31 AM

Strange Portal 2 comic that seems to follow Portal 1's story from the perspective of the Ratman:

http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/

Produced in-house by Valve, it's designed to bridge the gap between Portal 1 and Portal 2, to expand the story. See if you can spot the Half-Life references. :)

Havoc 04-09-2011 09:51 AM

Cool! I love story progression. But... does this mean we're going to see this guy in Portal 2? He's obviously going in after her.

MeechMunchie 04-12-2011 03:08 AM

I'm posting it all (including the newly released second half), because everyone reading this thread will probably want to read it. EDIT: Fine. Whatever. Excuse me for trying to make your life a little simpler.

The dark humour's getting really dark now. Also, frickin' huge Portal 1 spoilers ahead.

http://www.thinkwithportals.com/comic/

So yeah, it's definitely Ratman and he was alive and actively helping Chell during Portal 1 (though he was responsible for her ordeal in the first place). Also, yay at CCube.
