I remember something about this. A glukkon likes to look good and would never be seen with mechanical bionics.

EDIT: DAMNIT

Bullet Magnet 07-29-2010 04:34 PM

Perhaps Maggie just produces cripple children. Thalidomide.

STM 08-01-2010 04:20 AM

Wouldn't this take thousands of years of evolution anyway. It's not just the glukkons btw, native Oldgers walk on their hands.

Nate 08-01-2010 06:23 AM

I believe that the design that we refer to as 'Oldgers' was actually an early design for Glukkons, rather than a design for Early Glukkons. Best not make too many assumptions about how the Glukkons used to look from that one picture.

Wil 08-01-2010 06:25 AM

Also, what has been depicted in concept art doesn’t always reflect finalized canon.

native Oldgers walk on their hands.
Says who?

STM 08-02-2010 12:06 PM

Says the drawing

Sekto Springs 08-02-2010 06:13 PM

They aren't standing on their hands in the drawing, at least not the one I pointed out. What drawing are you looking at?

Nate 08-02-2010 06:16 PM

The one I was referring to was this one:

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/CAAO0007.jpg

They're similar enough to Glukkons as we know them to assume they're standing on their hands. But, as I said, these aren't a design of Glukkons as they were, but as they might have been if AO's story had developed differently.

Sekto Springs 08-02-2010 11:38 PM

Oh, I was referring to the design with four arms and the two wing-like capes. It was a very early design, if I recall. I considered that the closest model to Glukkons as they were.

Nate 08-03-2010 04:09 AM

Do you mean the Chroniclers?

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...O/RAMO0036.jpg

Alf Shall Rise 08-03-2010 04:37 AM

Hmm, I think Sekto is referring to the Oldger design that's on page 27 of the art book. Its design is very similar to the Chronicler's, however.

Wil 08-03-2010 04:57 AM

That is a piece of concept art for the Chronicler.

Nate 08-03-2010 04:59 AM

*goes and looks*

Oh I see. It's been a while since I looked at the book, so I'd forgotten that one. It's labelled 'Munch' and says that the creature is a more advanced relative to the Oldger. That probably is equivalent to the way that we now regard Glukkons and Octigi as being related races.

The photo I posted above of the old design for Glukkons is labeled 'Ociti Priest', so it's probably from a very early design stage. Opposite it (p62) is the only sketch I can find that's labeled 'Oldger'; it looks like a Glukkon with a beard. He's wearing clothing, so it's impossible to tell if they had already determined back then that they walk on their hands; no arms are visible though, so it seems likely.

STM 08-03-2010 05:56 AM

Yeh, Olds designed it and named it after himself, They where to appear in AO but also MO but then, MO was going to be a lot more expanded, as I believe was AO when you look at the book and see how things where going to be so different.

Yeah, looking at it now it looks very similar to a Chronicler. Same legs, the four arms. The captioning by Olds clearly states however that it was not originally meant to be a Chronicler, so I guess they just recycled the design.

Here's a little thought which I have been pondering, and don't think anybody has discussed. Here it is: look at your average Glukkon. Weak. Pretty defenseless. Probably got lung problems. So, how on earth does this creature manage to get those big, tough Sligs to follow them? How do they manage it? I mean, without the sligs, they are nothing. Surely it should be the Sligs calling the shots?

Theories, info and comments welcome.

Cheers,

GlukkonGluk

Easy! Glukkons have legs and money and sligs have arms and baddass attitude, plus glukkons provide mechanical legs for every sligs wich is a bonus for the sligs! mistery solved!

EDIT*
I think Lorne had the mind of a child when he created oddworld, he was like:"Oh dude let's make this character legless...oh dude make this character armless...man, make this character have 4 fingers, NO! 3 fingers!...GREAT!We're done..let the money pour!"

STM 08-10-2010 05:51 AM

Not really, each drawing takes thousands of ideas before they come to one conclusion, look at how the greeter started life.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 08-23-2010 04:56 AM

how?
oh yeah, a vending machine.

lismati 08-23-2010 06:08 AM

Speakıng of Greeters I lıke the ın-game ınfo about them. That one about helpıng the tourısts, and even shockıng them to death. And heres total OffTopıc: I wonder why theres ınfo about turısts (eg. Aslıks tourıst tıp). Are there any of them? And what kında of specıes are they? Glukkons? Vykers? Others?

khanzumers i presume, or steef, i dunno.

Havoc 08-23-2010 07:04 AM

Well the FeeCo Depot is a transfer station, so it would make sense that it sees public traffic. However, since Abe came from and went to industrial facilities it could be that he was in a non public part of the FeeCo Depot.

Laser 08-23-2010 07:31 AM

D'you know what.

I thought this thread was about Glukkon sex.

I am very disappointed.

Stranger4002 08-23-2010 08:48 AM

:

A feasable time frame for Glukkons to evolve (or in this case; devolve) with any significant difference to their physical appearance is somewhere in the xxx,000 year range, if I'm not mistaken. This process can be hastened by exposure to toxic industry, and perhaps a dash of mystical hyperbole to emphasize the wickedness (trope).
Yeah; I've heard that devolution theory too, because they became too dependent on other creatures doing their dirty work for them, they became more weak and frail.

Fatherbrain30 08-23-2010 03:39 PM

Don't supposed anyone would show me concept art of the oldgers?

Sekto Springs 08-23-2010 05:06 PM

I think showing art exclusive to the book is against the rules.

Fatherbrain30 08-23-2010 09:05 PM

It's Ok I saw it, it's in google books.

Stitchlips -X--X- 09-04-2010 07:38 PM

when a slig see's a wanted criminal it takes them 3 seconds to say wait! and then if you jump up a ledge and they see you climb up it they just act like it never happened.
isnt that stupid enough???

AvengingGibbons 09-04-2010 10:34 PM

They say "wait"???? It always sounded like "Queeg!" to me o_o

mlg man 09-04-2010 10:54 PM

Queeg!? Why would they say that lol!

Probably because of their limited vision... I don't know...
