I like this person. Now we just need another Anime geek and we can have our own OFW Anime Club!

Funny. I had a similar thought in my head when Sekto Springs said "action figure".

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 11:53 AM

Sorry. "Inaction figure" is more accurate.

Significantly.

Not that I actually care or anything. haha ha ha ... ha.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 11:59 AM

I'm a big fan of Todd McFarlane's work, but his toys can hardly be called "action figures".
I call them that anyway though, because "figurine" sounds kind of... gay.

Wings of Fire 07-22-2010 12:04 PM

The line itself is called figma, call them highly articulated display figures or something.

Action figures sounds gayer than figurines.

They have plenty of action. I've never seen another toy company who's figures break so nicely.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:05 PM

I normally use either figure or figurine. I don't know why I do this, but it's become a habit for me to refer to the male figures as "figures" and female figures as "figurines", even if both terms technically work with both of them.

No, no, no, no.
Figma is something completely different. Figma is a specific type of figurine. The type with the ball joints and sometimes movable arms or parts and most of the time they are smaller, less detailed, and cheaper.

I only own a KOS-MOS (Xenosaga) and Aigis (Persona 3) figma. Everything else I have is a real $50-80 figurine.

edit: Sorry for the double post. I wasn't thinking.

You're right, actually.

My point exactly. They're meant to be posed once and then left on your shelf to collect dust.

Wings of Fire 07-22-2010 12:11 PM

I'd like to say I'd never pay over $50 for a figma, but three of my figma (Miku Hatsune, Kirisame Marisa and Signum Yagami) are all rare and gotten off eBay.

So umm yeah.

Ridg3 07-22-2010 12:12 PM

And then eventually fall off the shelf for absolutely no reason. I think I still have that Medusa head, with her rubber snake hair. The rest is long gone.

I don't really like figmas. The ball-joints and overall lower quality bug me. But I know a lot of people really like them. But the way I figure it, if I am spending money on a plastic recreation of an anime character, I might as well stop pretending I have better things to do with my money and just go for the good/big stuff.

I tell myself I'm a collector so I can sleep at night.

This isn't my first forum.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 12:17 PM

I shelled out a pretty penny for that gigantic statue of a Sentinel from The Matrix. The stand broke on the first day, and over the course of several years it lost several of it's tentacles and robotic arms.

I have a nice collection of Spawn toys that are still in mint though.

Wings of Fire 07-22-2010 12:17 PM

Well, I bought a PG Gundam kit recently for over $200 but I sleep at night by telling myself that's a once in a lifetime purchase.

I'm a poor student you know!

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 12:18 PM

Fuck... the money you people spend on this shit. Give the money to me instead.

I still have that original Violator figure. The bendy action is all worn out, so he's like a head with noodle limbs.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:20 PM

The most I've ever spent on one is $80, but I'm not against spending more.

I loved the color on that one, or lack thereof. Nostaaaaalgiaaaa.
I remember I also used to have a red one.

Emesdee 07-22-2010 12:26 PM

I had the gold one, K.B. Toys exclusive, I think. I kept it in the package on the mistaken idea that it would be worth something.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:50 PM

Would it be out of the question to suggest we make a thread for Anime/Manga/Visual Novels and all that. From what I can tell, a lot of people here hate people talking about it everywhere, but the last topic died so they have nowhere proper to talk about it.

If we had a new topic for it, maybe the people who like it wouldn't feel inclined to talk about it elsewhere and those debates wouldn't happen. Assuming, of course, that everyone else doesn't troll the thread and let us have our conversations.

OANST 07-22-2010 12:51 PM

So fucking start one then.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 12:57 PM

Oh. Okay.

MA 07-22-2010 01:16 PM

fuck sakes. not another one.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 01:17 PM

We can raise this one right.

MA 07-22-2010 01:20 PM

wanna bet?

no, really, do you want to wager on it? with WoF around there's no fucking way we can raise him right. and by 'right' i mean 'not irritating'.

Ridg3 07-22-2010 01:21 PM

You forgot Strike Witch.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 01:21 PM

I have no moneys.

MA 07-22-2010 01:22 PM

we can bet pencils.

OANST 07-22-2010 01:24 PM

This one is far worse than our existing weeaboos. We have a real life lolicon on our hands here.

crimsonxking 07-22-2010 01:24 PM

Oh, come on. Don't judge me based on my hobbies. If you are going to hate me, at least let me earn it or something.

Wings of Fire 07-22-2010 01:25 PM

Hobbies is a weird way of putting it...

Entertainment interests? But that makes it sound like it's all I like.

I dunno, once I started buying stuff for it I considered it a hobby.

edit: I mean anime and all that stuff in general, by the way.

OANST 07-22-2010 01:30 PM

We know what you meant. It's just not what we meant.

Sekto Springs 07-22-2010 01:31 PM

Don't take it personally if OANST hates you. He's a cantankerous fart who hates everyone.

OANST 07-22-2010 01:32 PM

Not really. And I don't hate him. I just think he's really fucking gross.

Ridg3 07-22-2010 01:34 PM

He did something to spite me once... this week in fact. I was pretty upset.

OANST 07-22-2010 01:35 PM

The woods for you.

We know what you meant. It's just not what we meant.

I was talking about Molluck's Assistant assuming I am going to be annoying and he is going to hate me. I mean, if he hates me because of my personality or how I act, that doesn't bother me. But don't assume such things based purely on what I like and who I get along with on here.

Not really. And I don't hate him. I just think he's really fucking gross.

You'll never see me deny this. But I'll also never talk about it if it bothers you guys.
