How is it a plot hole waiting to happen?

Because it makes no sense at all from a story standpoint that the paws of 5 different species would be imprinted on 5 different moons.

One paw on one moon you can just barely get away with, but 5 is just overdone. Almost everything on Oddworld, down to the Glukkons glowing eyes, has a solid backstory or explanation except for the moons and that kinda bugs me.

Wil 07-24-2010 03:34 PM

That's not a plot exactly, and the lack of explanation is integral to their purpose. They're accepted as omens by the native races despite the lack of explanation. In that capacity they make as much sense as any other supernatural element we've seen to exist on Oddworld. If it helps, think of them as simulacra: things that just happen to resemble the species' prints enough that willing believers will see them.

Next you'll be telling me you don't believe Jesus manifests his image on waffles.

Ninjaxe 07-25-2010 04:26 AM

I would say the abe's moon more resurring and mysterious. It also gave abe purpose. Munch's is in my opinion pointless. He going to eggs, why you need a moon for that?

GlukkonGluk 07-25-2010 04:46 AM

The fact that there is no explanation for them being there is what makes them omens; it means people are free to make their own explanation as to why they're there, e.g. "it's shaped like a paw because we are the Chosen Race". See? Explanations ruin all the fun ;)

So it's fine for Abe to have a moon for being the saviour of his race, but not for Munch to have a moon for being the saviour of his race? Racist.

nope, munch sucks, like havoc said, 5 is way overdone, they should of just left it with abes moon.

At the end of the quintology, there will be 5 printed moons; one for each hero.

Abe shouldn't be the only one with a moon as he's only the first hero in our hearts. The other heroes are equally, if not more, important in the scheme of things.

Yeah; I agree, however I think each moon should be more distinctive compared to eachother because Abe's and Munch's moons looked identical except for the hand/foot prints on them...each moon should be unique in my opinion; maybe each having a slightly different shape or colour?

moons are white and round, thats all there is to it.

I heard, that at the end of the quintology, Abe goes back in time and blows his hand into the moon, to remind him in the future that he is the chosen one.
Maybe everyone else goes too!

No offence; but that sounds a bit too over-the-top, even for Oddworld...

Indeed, Oddworld is odd, not poorly-constructed...

You obviously have no knowledge of our solar system whatsoever. There are only a few that are "white and round" and that's ours and some of the gas giants' many satellites. Our Moon is not the only one out there, you know.

Exactly ODDWORLDisTHEbest!; which is why I think they should be different colours or at the very least be a different shape, basically anything which makes each one distinctive besides the obvious imprints on them.

Crashpunk 07-25-2010 09:10 AM

Does Abe's moon change between AO and AE because of Abe disappearing finger?

Wil 07-25-2010 09:43 AM

Depends on whether you played the version of AO where the moon has three or four fingers.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-25-2010 12:28 PM

no, moons, are white and round, planets are different colours, rocks and stuff are different shapes, anyway enough of that, back on topic, i didnt know there was a version of AO where he had three fingers, also, have you noticed that Abe's sprite in AE still has 4 fingers?

Wil 07-25-2010 01:45 PM

Here's Phobos, one of Mars' two moons. Notice how round it is not?

Here's a scale chart of a good few moons within the solar system. Notice how white some of them are not?

The different version of AO was Abe A GO GO, the Japanese version and the moon was diffrent because of it would be tough to sell four‐fingered characters to the Japanese market and since the japanese version came out after the US and UK. they had time to change it.

Thank you Oddworld Encyclopædia :D

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-26-2010 03:54 AM

i knew that anyway thanks to the art of oddworld inhabitants, i didnt know that abe a gogo had 3 fingers though, i thought it was from Ae upwards... but anyway, why did abes sprite still have 4 fingers in AE?

Jordan 07-26-2010 04:01 AM

Because, like with the Sligs having the same visors from AO, they didn't want to recreate the sprites for AE.

Also, disabling private messages is the lousiest thing ever, how childish. And you wonder why people continue to negrep you.

MeechMunchie 07-26-2010 04:04 AM

Because they had a perfectly functional sprite already and saw no reason to change it. Same story with the slig visors.

EDIT: Speedy shit.

Josh 07-26-2010 04:08 AM

And the old Slig Visors looked awesome in 2D.

MeechMunchie 07-26-2010 04:14 AM

Troo dat.

Wil 07-26-2010 04:19 AM

Because they'd have to recreate every frame of the sprite from scratch, and that's far too much effort for something that doesn't stand out on the screen unless you're looking for it.

EDIT: Missed the next page. I = forum pro.

Just curious of your opinions on why they added another moon with a mark on it. Any ideas on why they did it, and whether or not you think it's a good idea? I personally believe that every new character that is introduced into the Quintology will, at the end of their respective games, get their own moon. However, I don't think it's a good idea- they should've just stuck to Abe's moon.

I think they introduced it to keep our minds going...

Phantasos 08-24-2010 03:57 PM

Feeling disappointed with the lack of debate about paw prints and the like on moons on these forums in an alternate timeline, Lorne Lanning went back in time and told himself (whilst dressed in a trenchcoat and shades) to add moons with paw prints into his games, so that he may baffle, confuse and anger oddworldforum members in the future.

I think that's how it went. For I have all the facts.

Also, I counted 28 moons in the Stockyard Escape.

Phylum 08-24-2010 09:22 PM

I wouldn't be supprised If there were many more than that.

Statistically, I suppose it's quite likely that with all those moons a meagre 5 of them by chance have a paw/foot/hand/etc. print on them.

Has it been confirned anywhere that there are actually 5 heroes as opposed to just 5 games?

Yes it was - in the back of Oddworld Abe's Oddysee's manual (PSX)!

By the way, can someone post a link to an image of the gabbit's foot on the moon?
I can't seem to find any. I never played Oddworld Munch's Oddysee :(
