Humans think that non-human animals are inferior. Sure we can feel pity for them, but many of them are treated much worse than mere slaves. The majority of society tolerates this because it's the accepted norm. Same with slavery, same with Glukkons.

Is it confirmed that there are multiple RuptureFarms, or is it an assumption based on the 1029 number?

It's not confirmed and i personaly think that it is only RF facility of this scale. Maybe there is few outposts in Paramonia/Scrabania.

But there is (for almost sure) other meat processing plants in Mudos.

Oddworld industrial society tolerates almost everything (they are very tolerant people :P), so oppression and slavery aren't bad term for them.

it requires nastiness to have slaves.

:

But yes, they certainly are nasty.

I think we've established Glukkons are nasty. But even nastiness is only as society defines it. Back when we owned slaves, it wasn't considered nasty to do so.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-09-2010 04:35 PM

no but it was wrong, and thats what the glukkons know, they know its wrong but the difference with them is that they dont care, they think they're top, and everything else is below them, like we do with animals, we may not know it, but we do, except with animals, its not wrong, i dont mean animal cruelty cuz that is wrong, i mean you wouldnt eat with your dog at the dinner table, you put food on the floor in his bowl, its not wrong but its considering them lower class, you know what i mean?

Sekto Springs 07-09-2010 05:00 PM

I don't think Glukkons think having slaves is wrong. It's just business to them. I'm willing to bet most Glukkons don't even know their heritage.

Glukkons do what they do because they definitively know that they are not on top. Glukkons like Molluck do what they do because they fear Queen Margaret. Margaret oppresses her children because she feels the weight of responsibility to her grandmother's cryogenically frozen wishes. And there are several layers of complexity above that too.

Xavier 07-10-2010 12:52 AM

RF1029 and Molluck are only small pieces in the whole Magog Cartel. As the story will unfold we will see tat Abe will always have to go further to do a real "positive" impact.

GlukkonGluk 07-10-2010 11:30 AM

"They say it's the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld." So, yes, Abe probably made a bit of an impact, not just to the industry, but for the morale of the Mudokons and a threat to the industrialists. And, well, Glukkons' fashion sense may not look good to you or me, but we aren't creatures with shrivelled legs, incredibly long arms and weird ears, eh?

Talking in future tense won't bring the games back, Xav. ;)

STM 07-11-2010 05:09 AM

BUT WE CAN TRY SEKTO! =*(

We all know that oddworld finishes negatively in the end so maybe Abe realises he has only made a tiny dent?

Phylum 07-11-2010 06:09 AM

We all know that oddworld finishes negatively

Where do we know that? If Abe alone can bring down what they say is the biggest meat processing plant on Oddworld, imagine what 5 heroes could do.

Not destroy the Glukkons, I admit, but that doesn't mean that there will be a sad ending.

STM 07-11-2010 06:11 AM

No Lorne Lanning said that in the end, oddworld finishes badly in one of his speeches.

Nate 07-11-2010 06:23 AM

*ahem*

It was in one of his interviews, actually.

STM 07-11-2010 06:28 AM

Sorry ,that's what I meant but I couldn't remember the word.

‘They say’ is the key phrase here. It's third-hand information, and it's probably come from Glukkon propaganda. Molluck wants to big up himself and his factory and his job.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-11-2010 11:55 AM

yes but it probably is the biggest meat processing plant on oddworld.

and about negative, i hope abe does'nt die.

Josh 07-11-2010 12:00 PM

He might not, but some freaky shit happens to the planet.

It most probably isn't the biggest plant on Oddworld or even Mudos, the Mudokons in there have no clue, how could they know?

And I think Abe won't live to see the happy end.

Oh and Sekto Springs, some part of me still believes we will see the rest of the story.:)

STM 07-12-2010 08:12 AM

I agree, I also would expect sligstorm to raise it's head possibly if the OWB was still running.

Wil 07-12-2010 10:21 AM

Oddworld Bajingo?

GlukkonGluk 07-12-2010 01:51 PM

Maybe Rupture Farms wasn't the biggest plant on Oddworld, but that doesn't matter- what matters is what the Mudokons believe, which is that it WAS the biggest, and Abe destroyed it. Therefore, they are willing to follow him as their Messiah. I think, for your average lazy Mudokon, that kind of thinking is the only way to get them psyched up for revolution. In my humble opinion, anyway :)

That goes for any Mudokon who believes 1029 was the biggest RuptureFarms. Move towards the more cultured urban areas, or just further from these particular sticks where there might be equally or more impressive RFs, and the Mudokons might not be quite so impressed.

Hell, if Rumor Kontrol is doing its job properly, news of a Mudokon uprising shouldn't have spread beyond the region AO–MO takes place. That kind of bad publicity can ruin a company's image.

thats a lot of information to get in 10 seconds.

STM 07-13-2010 12:43 PM

OT: Max, change your avatar back! Whyyyy, oh the horror

OnT: I think that 1029 is probably the biggest simply because there is no reason for Lorne Lanning ot be lieing when he made the factory.

Wil 07-13-2010 12:54 PM

OT: There is to be no off-topic.

OnT: Except that it wasn't Lorne that said it, it was Abe; just because you can't think of a reason, doesn't mean there isn't one; and even if you're right, Lorne may have changed his mind subsequently.

STM 07-14-2010 09:06 AM

But oddworld is lorne lannings mind and therefore every change and alternative aspect purges the oddworld reality creating a number of schisms and alternative parallels.

Wil 07-14-2010 01:38 PM

Oddworld isn't sci-fi. It doesn't need time travel or alternative dimensions or parallel universes or schisming realities to explain differing or changing continuities.

Sekto Springs 07-14-2010 05:14 PM

A wizard did it.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-14-2010 06:18 PM

well we'll see as the story unfolds... if it does...

Oddworld isn't high fantasy. It doesn't need wizards or demons or gods or invisible monsters to explain differing or changing continuities.

A shaman did it.

STM 07-15-2010 05:44 AM

I'll have you know that I was talking about oddworld being related to Lorne Lanning's mind and every time a new thought occurred to him, oddworld would be re-edited if you will to that new dimension creating a number of parallels. Biatch.

Wil 07-15-2010 05:48 AM

Thank you for clarifying by putting the same words in the same order.

Oddworld isn't just a result of Lorne Lanning's efforts, it's the result of a sizable amount of people's efforts. And also, Lorne Lanning has projects other than Oddworld.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-15-2010 10:28 AM

yes but if lorne lanning was never born, oddworld wouldnt exist

Wil 07-15-2010 10:36 AM

THIS ISN'T GODDAMN BACK TO THE FUTURE.

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-15-2010 10:52 AM

or is it?....... No, no its not.

Bullet Magnet 07-15-2010 10:58 AM

Incidentally, Rupture Farms is powered by 1.21 GIGAWATTS!

STM 07-16-2010 11:11 AM

And it's over 9000...years until citizen siege comes out

ODDWORLDisTHEbest! 07-16-2010 03:48 PM

over 9000, 9000, ITS OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sekto Springs 07-16-2010 04:51 PM

That meme is inert.
