I had to write a paper on this scenario for school.

So does PalezQkkeli.

STM 05-17-2010 11:09 AM

Hmm, didn't expect you to post, haha he looks pretty tight

shaman 05-17-2010 03:35 PM

Grab food, water and weapon.

Steal car keys.

Drive to countryside to hold up.

Also, my sidekick would be Jesus.

mr.odd 05-17-2010 05:44 PM

Bullet to brain. Quickest way out of this scenario.

Mac Sirloin 05-17-2010 07:16 PM

Surviving a Zombie apocalypse isn't hard. Go somewhere where there aren't very many people, bring supplies, some kind of radio, you're golden.

Sekto Springs 05-17-2010 08:05 PM

I remember reading somewhere that if the zombie problem wasn't controlled within 20 days (or something), the hope for humanity's survival in general would plummet dramatically. I forget why and I'm too lazy to look it up.

The same could be said for any infectious disease.

Here's an interesting thing: an article that theorises how long the electricity would last after a zombie uprising.

Phylum 05-18-2010 04:39 AM

I'd head north and die in the desert.

Or wander for 30 years and emerge into a new world.

Ridg3 05-18-2010 05:13 AM

I'd succesfully divide by zero and jump through the rift I'd create and hope I survive and hope that I land in a world that looks like a tree.

Grieva 05-18-2010 08:36 AM

I'd join NASA, go into space, get put in cryonics and return to earth 2000 years later, the zombies should be gone by then.

STM 05-18-2010 08:59 AM

Apparently real zombies wouldn't last more than ten year because of natural wear (a virus doesn't get attack by microbes - see solanum)

Bullet Magnet 05-18-2010 10:15 AM

Excepting in high latitudes where they freeze every winter, preserving them for longer. Apparently freezing doesn't destroy zombie cells.

PalezQkkeli 05-19-2010 05:14 AM

Good point we'd have to have generators. I think the powerplants wouldn't manage too long by themselves..

Bullet Magnet 05-19-2010 05:45 AM

And what fuel would you use?

Josh 05-19-2010 06:09 AM

Won't we all just die in a bath of radiation with nobody maintainig the Nuclear Reactors?

Nate 05-19-2010 06:15 AM

Most nuclear plants built in the last half-century need humans to keep them running, but have automatic emergency shutdown procedures if things go wrong.

Bullet Magnet 05-19-2010 10:33 AM

When it comes down to it, it is the nuclear plants that will go on generating electricity the longest (though that will be for naught if the grid has failed). Then they'll stop when the fuel rods are exhausted.

But don't worry, there'll be plenty of environmental catastrophes to worry about before you need to start worrying about radiation.

STM 05-19-2010 10:47 AM

Yes, before emergency shut down they will keep working so long as the gird keeps workin, dams would work even longer with HEP lasting as long as the turbines don't rust!

Wings of Fire 05-19-2010 01:37 PM

Shame that that won't happen and there'll be quite a few tribes operating in north africa, asia and south america who will never get caught because of seclusion.

...

I don't think hydroelectric power works how you think it does.

Bullet Magnet 05-20-2010 01:33 AM

Oh, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until the megaswarms that spread unbroken across much of their respective continents stumble upon those poor souls. Though some of the SA tribes live in treehouses in the Amazon, so they'll do okay.

Well I think I can find gas somewhere to get the generators running. Also What If a group of people settled in a Nuclear powerplant so that there would be electricity in the nearby town. Raid every gunshop etc.

STM 05-20-2010 08:20 AM

Hmm, where I live it's easy to defend probably on a hill local people all known, incredible number of old people for bate! Just joking

OddjobAbe 05-20-2010 08:27 AM

Oh, thank goodness for that. I almost hyperventilated I was so shocked.

MA 05-20-2010 09:04 AM

Oddjob's old lol

MeechMunchie 05-20-2010 09:09 AM

roflmao ageing

OddjobAbe 05-20-2010 09:30 AM

You fucking bastards.

MeechMunchie 05-20-2010 09:36 AM

Be quiet or we'll put you in a home.

Well I think I can find gas somewhere to get the generators running.

How long do you think that will last? How can you drain gas from stations without power for the pump? And even finding a way, you'll have to do it without alerting the zombies and compete with living humans who won't be worried about killing you for it.

:

What If a group of people settled in a Nuclear powerplant so that there would be electricity in the nearby town. Raid every gunshop etc.
Running a nuclear power plant is not something you can do untrained. Besides, it is likely to run by itself to a certain degree until fuel runs out, which you won't be able to replace. In addition, adapting the grid to be localised so that the town can be run on the single station is no easy task, even for an expert. Imagine a non-expert trying to do it among thousands of zombies. As for raiding gun shops, you won't be the first to try. Most would probably have been taken in the panic preceding social meltdown, any still with stock are likely to be holed up by their owners or squatters and surrounded by the remains of would-be looters, attracted ghouls for miles. In addition, it's one thing to acquire a gun, but quite another to use it. They are not easy, you need practice with the specific model and rounds. And even an expert marksman is going to have trouble hitting advancing zombies as the primal terror takes hold.

It's all in the practice before anything starts. Thank god it hasn't started yet.. Hmm should I buy a gun while I still can.. And stock up on gas :o?

Not a bad idea! We should start shooting people in the head too, to kill the zombies in advance.

That thing pops the wrong way.

STM 05-21-2010 12:51 PM

I can operate a nuclear power plant since I played fallout 2!!!! You need a hydro magnetosphere and a Mr. handy robot with functioning logic circuits preferably!!!

Nah, it's just that the light source is on the bottom right.

Yeah, I guess we're not used to that in this world of overhead lighting.

Well, yes... but the shading is all stuffed up - even if the light was from the bottom right the shadows would still be wrong. And hold the button down to get a good look at it depressed - that thing's not going either way.

Sekto Springs 05-22-2010 11:12 AM

Ench is right. The lighting doesn't actually change when you push it down, the whole thing just gets slightly darker. What sloppy graphics.
