Oh and yey for Serial Lain! ^^ |
Yeah, if you've posted in this thread you have an obligation to watch Serial Experiments Lain. It's only thirteen episodes long and it's jaw droppingly fantastic.
It's not that well known so it hardly ever gets taken down from youtube due to copyright reasons. |
I'm a fan of anime, so far my favorites are probably Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Baccano! I'm currently watching Samurai Champloo, however, and I am enjoying it.
|
I used to watch naruto till about ep 69 in shippuuden (last summer), now i really hate, although the girls are still cute in my mind.
used to watch yu-gi-oh! on TV(about 5 years ago), but got bored of it quickly. now all i see of anime are the pics and some of the vids in here on oddworld. EDIT: also the 1st pic in post #11 by WOF looks familiar, cause it reminds me of one pic i posted about harumi eating someone drawn by some cool anime vore artist who is pretty famous in vore world. enough about vore already. even though "there is no body getting eaten ~Enchilado" i still think anime girls are hot. |
I like Lupin the 3rd, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun and Fullmetal Alchemist. Those are the only anime programs I can stand.
Most of it is boring, unreasonably typical tripe that doesn't so much try to break the traditional mold of anime (boy must succeed in his quest for greatness by training, sometimes with the help of his collectible ______s and hoards of horny, dominatable women which, as a feminist, really irks me to no end) as it does trying to create more variations around it, and while at least one of the shows I've listed does sort of follow that trend, it does it with an interesting premise. I love how FMA's director created the alternate universe it takes place in. Like The Last Airbender, it takes place on a different continent and takes inspiration from a different country where the people, like Airbender for America, are not part of the majority group. Not too many natural blondes in Japan. I tried to get into shows like Gurren Lagan (oh, how I tried), but my god, I can NOT STAND MOST of what the Japanese find funny. Maybe it's that I grew up with American humor (and I'd have plenty to say about that, too), but giant sweat drops, falling down with the same force as an asteroid hurtling from space just because you're embarassed, IT'S NOT JUST UNFUNNY, IT'S IRRITATING, and they do it fucking constantly. I just... don't get the jokes. I was reluctant to list Trigun up there for the same reason. FMA has its moments, but they're few and far between, and the show's drama balances it out. AND ANOTHER THING! I can't stand the translated scripts. They're just so... ugh! They don't often flow like normal english should flow. THAT is one of the biggest reasons for my inclusion of those four shows: the translated scripts are written well so that they don't grate on an english speaker's ears. Trigun's the exception because it's a western in space, but it can get pretty bad. I can't describe how bad some of these sound, I think Perfect Hair Forever did an excellent job parodying the bad writing with the King of All Animals' dialogue. I mean, you have to feel bad for someone who's just tuning into SyFy's Anime block and getting an earful of "WE MUST CONTAIN THE YUGIO BARRIER OR ELSE THIS SHAKU WILL DISAPPEAR AND WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH HIT POINTS AND SHARDS TO COUNTERACT THE EVIL DONGWEAVER'S EVIL MAGIC, OHO!" Way to kick your potential audience in the nuts, Funimation. I used to like DBZ and I probably would have liked Naruto as well when I was young and stupid and tolerated the shit I now loathe in anime. MAGICAL GIRL EDIT: There's a lot of anime that I've seen that I'd be ashamed to place in the same category as the Narutard shit, like Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell and others like it. A lot that I haven't listed here. I often get caught thinking of anime as the same banal, chirpy kidshit that I usually catch these days, and I often forget that there's such great stuff out there. GOD, I LOVE STUDIO GHIBLI. OH, MISTER MIYAZAKI, YOU MAN YOU. |
I watched The Cat Returns with Abbey on friday, and My Neighbor Totoro last night.
|
The Cat Returns is awesome!! I don't care if it's kidsy or whatever. But I loved it.
|
Agreed, who the hell needs a moral message when you're having so much fun?
I'm watching Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha at the moment, it's pretty fucking awesome for a magical girl show. And I love me my magical girl shows. http://i14.tinypic.com/67fqwd4.jpg I AM SUCH A PEDOPHILE |
I used to watch Sailor Moon during my early years when I watched the german channel(the only channel that showed animes) .... Both me, my sister and her friend would like fangirl over this show even though we didn't understand a word X_x.
Me and my sister slowly lost interest over time, and soon Pokemon would take over, which I completely loved for a few months before losing interest in that too. The downside in this was that I managed to buy a really huge, ugly egg-shaped pikachu, that cost like 55 bucks, before I realized what a terribly stupid fad it was. Now I'm stuck with it, and it keeps staring at me with it's blobby face... smiling all day.... singing and whispering gently, "you spent 55 bucks on me" all night long in my dreams. Sometimes... I wake up sweaty and with tears in my eyes from the horrible nights. |

What is wrong with you people? Are you still watching Rainbow Bright? Fuck.
|
I just adore the character archetypes used in shoujo (anime/manga made for young girls). Something about the sweetness and innocence of the characters really appeals to me.
Also lasers. LASERSLASERSLASERS |

Dude. That makes it even creepier. Personally, I think that this sort of thing is beneath you. I couldn't imagine having so much time on my hands that I would ever feel inclined to watch a cartoon about magical prepubescent girls. And anything that you say in defense of it I will see as the ridiculous rationalizations of a budding weeaboo.
|
Suit yourself, but I think you're being a bit of a cultural imperialist by imposing your views on what's good and what's not to others and believing your view to be the objective truth. I like these sorts of shows (As long as they actually are good, which by the way most magical girl shows are NOT) and I do not believe it makes me any better or worse or it's beneath me or any of that shit. It just is.
So this is one of the few times I'm going to ask we agree to disagree because it's down to opinions. As long as you don't think I take anything sexual away from these sorts of shows I frankly don't give a damn on what your opinion of the kind of anime I watch is. It seems to be an intensely polarizing medium to begin with anyway. |
It has nothing to do with the medium for me, but I think it does for you. I get the impression that if Rainbow Bright was a Japanese show you would watch it.
|
I don't watch bad anime. I don't watch Bleach, I don't watch One Piece, I don't watch Gundam SEED Destiny, I don't watch Pretty Cure, I've HATED most manga I've tried to read, I don't watch InuYasha, I don't watch Pokemon, I don't watch Ramna 1/2 I don't watch Dragonball GT and there a load more anime that I'm guessing I wouldn't like if I saw. Yes it has got something to do with the medium for me, I am predisposed to prefering anime series over western series because I'm a fan of the humour, I like the animation and music and the character interaction is basically different, but I also like a lot of western animation that are just as good if not better than the majority of anime I've watched.
There's more anime out there than you could imagine, I carefully pick which to watch by looking around on TVTropes, a couple of review sites I have an eye on and the opinions of people who share similar tastes with me. Oh, and it was not Ghost who got me back into Magical Girl stuff before you ask. EDIT: Also probably the biggest reason I watch so much anime in my free time is because THE MAJORITY OF IT IS FREELY (Ableit ilegally) AVAILABLE OVER THE INTERNET, I simply don't have money to spend on DVDs to watch live action stuff, not that modern live action stuff generally holds a great interest for me anyway. |
FUCK OFF WITH THIS SHIT WoF!
Havoc, Hobo, Ridg3 +Rep, +Rep. I've selected the second option though. I don't really like the anime style, and I love ren and stimpy, just for the laughs lol |
Who else is enjoying my cuntsmanlike conduct?

Cammy is.

OH MY GOD FIRST EPISODE OF GUNDAM UNICORN IS OUT IT'S SO FUCKING AWESOME FUCK YEAH FUCK YEAH AWESOME
|
Gundam Unicorn, huh?
Hm. |
I enjoy a good Anime every now and again :D, although I haven't seen very many.
I've watched: Digimon (finished season 1,2+3) Pokemon (duh, I never actually got into this though) Deathnote (finished) Mushi-shi (only seen the first 3 or 4 episodes but loved it) Sailor Moon (still have the intro stuck in my head after all these years, watched quite a few episodes as a kid) I have actually never seen gundam and my only encounter with it was a game demo on my PS2 that I used to play repetitively with my sister. |

After your last blog, I started to watch the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
The first 2 episodes were really cute, but now it's got really bizarre. Still cute though. Ho hum. - Rexy |
I haven't actually seen that yet, although I have it downloaded on my computer.
Also, I finished the first season of Nanoha and am onto Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha A's, the second season and immediately fell in love with one of the new characters. The fact she's wheelchair bound sets her apart to start off with, and means I can relate to her woobie-ness on some level. :
Wow was I wrong, that's (Baka to Test to Shokanju) also a pretty good anime. I watched the first episode today and it's ongoing. |
Mai Otome was probably the most bizarre magic girl anime I've ever seen X_x ... If you can even call it that. They do transform in any case.
Anyway the girls look like they are 12, when they are supposed to be 16 in fact... and what really freaked me out was that the main character had like a crush/relationship thingy with a teacher who was a grown man. I ended up watching the whole thing plus the OVAs... When I start watching an anime, no matter how good or bad, I tend to simply want to finish it as I hate unfinished things. I still don't know what my opinion on Mai Otome is. |

SUNRISE IC BREAKS ALL PREVIOUS STANDARDS OF ANIMATION |
I only watch a very small amount of anime. When it was aired on Cartoon Network/Toonami I always watched Dragonball/Z/GT, and especially Gundam Wing. Not really hunted any out since it stopped airing, but I did see a strange little anime film a month or so back on TV.
I could never be an anime addict like WoF but I do enjoy bits here & there. |

Edit: Blocked. So what he wants to tell me is that a nine year old character taken from an eroge (Japanese porn game) is given her own series, shown completely nude in it multiple times in just the intro, but the reasons for it are to show how innocent she is. Either you think that I'm a complete moron and you're trolling me, or you are so fucking enamored by all things Japanese that you think that they are beyond reproach. Which makes you a complete fucking moron. And no, this isn't one of our fun little games. |
