All your drawings are great, guys. I can't say I like Mr Sekto's most, so I won't, but mate: want to do concept art for the SligStorm fangame I hope, one day, to make? That is so damn' amazing.
And remember everyone else, though you're doing pretty good: A good story is as good as a good picture. ...I've said good so many times in this post. Good Odd. ~it can't be good for me. Enchilado |
I can throw a few concepts your way for the lulz, sure.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j.../Grifter-1.jpg Name: Skud Species: Grifter Habitat: Anywhere there's fools to be fleeced out of their hard-earned moolah. Lifestyle: Grifters, as their name suggests, are a race of flim-flammers, scam artists, and con men. They were once a race of spiritual, amphibious forest-dwellers, turned against their old ways by the sins of monetary obsession. They live now in the cities, often setting up near Feeco Depots and other transportation hubs hoping to scam newcomers out of their cash. They are sweaty, easily annoyed, and dislike those smart enough to carry plastic. Most Grifters are loners that set up Three Card Monte, Under-Which-Cup, Farkle, and other loaded games of chance. All Grifters start out as simple skells luring in passersby with an inquiry such as "are you lucky?", intent on proving to them that they aren't. More successful Grifters run casinos, using the false promotional pitch that the money earned will go towards rebuilding their shattered native culture. Grifters are short, plump, and saggy. They are sluggish, their only form of locomotion being to shuffle along the ground using the numerous, muscular, finger-like appendages on their abdomen to pull themselves along. Their bodies excrete a lubricating slime to help this process, not unlike slugs. Because moving around is such a chore for Grifters, they prefer to use electrical transport. Grifters' craftiness is unparalleled, but they suffer when it comes to all matters cerebral. Basically, Grifters are clever but not much else. A Grifter can come up with a thousand and one ways to relieve you of your cash, but couldn't spell "cash" to save their life. They speak well, and talk fast in a high-pitched gurgle. The large sacks on their head store water. Like camels, Grifters drink large amounts of fluid in one sitting, and distribute it evenly throughout the body over a period of months. A dehydrated Grifter is a humorous site to behold, as the deflation of their anterior sack looks like a wrinkled banana. They have highly developed motor skills, though the simplicity and cumbersomeness of their bodies gives this trait little significance. Their arms, however, are thin, long, and triple-jointed and are able to move insanely fast. Because a Grifter's body type makes them generally useless, they have evolved to have such arms for increased functionality. Their reach is over twice the length of their body and, despite the lankiness of their arms, they are able to lift heavy objects. Grifters have small a mouth hidden under their anterior water lobe. They do not have teeth, but have fine serrated deposits of calcium along their gumline like certain frogs. They are herbivorous. Grifters eyesight is decent. They do not have noses but, like snakes, they can "smell" using a sensitive, olfactory-responsive tongue. |
Fucking amazing.
~I can just imagine this guy sitting in a dingy casino and holding out his hands for your money. Enchilado |

Dipstikk, please don't spam.
Sekto, you are really an amazing artist; it would be incredible if you posted some of your Oddworld art in FC. |

As usual, Chris pwns us with his art. <3 I drew two critters. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...hemuse/012.jpg NAME: Mawg (Portmanteu of "maw" and "frog") RELATED TO: Possible distant relationship to Slogs HABITAT: Originally swamps, which is where some of them still dwell. But many have been captured and employed as security in the city where they are roided up to the point of of pure rage. Seen here is a native Mawg, indicated by his visible irises. LIFESTYLE: Native Mawgs are sentient and intelligent, even capable of speech. Naturally, they are a peaceful race that tries not to interfere in the course of nature. Their over-developed arms are a result of the need to dig through the thick mud for food and shelter. Slave mawgs are more muscular from forced steroid use, so as to make them more effective as watch dogs and suppress their intelligence. Their attack method is propelling their long, highly adhesive tongue and either swallowing prey whole, or holding them fro retrieval for their superiors. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...hemuse/013.jpg SPECIES: An'tuk NAME: Throk'Elu HABITAT: Originally, large, coniferal forests, but most of them have been enslaved by industrial forces as loaders of large goods, like the Kintos. The cities they inhabit have high precipitation, and mixes with the plant fumes to produce a terrible acid rain. LIFESTYLE:They wear masks to protect them from the miasma, as their species is used to fresh, mountain air. They are good-natured, but under the thumb of industrialists, they are more meek and less inclined to intervene where they see wrong-doing, which is strange considering their size and strength. Like Chris, I'm just doing this for fun. I might post more later. |
They second one looks somewhat like a Jawa. :p
|
@Sekto Springs
Very nice sketch. I'm only can say one thing aganist it. Maybe it schould look more like some kind of insect (sligs, scarabs and paramites are a little similiar to insects). |
Which one? Why would it look like an insect when it's not related to one?
|
:
I can't believe I didn't see that. Jawas on steroids. Your creatures sort of remind me of the aliens from MIB, Chris. |
MIB had some good production design going on.
|
Hmm. I've redesigned and reworked my best old creature designs into original creations for some original work (which I've been interested in since I decided it's both more fun and more productive to move away from fanstuff). But I might put something new together for this.
|
Can I do one without a picture? Good.
Name: Sand dweller Inhabitance: The greater plains and the deeper parts of Scrabania Background: The Sand dwellers are an ancient people going as far back as the mudokons, it is possible the two species are related, but probably not. The sand dwellers live in small towns usually of about roughly 600 inhabitants, the towns are not of a usualy layout, similar to the dig site of Catal Huyuk the town is more of a hive, a massive block carved from hardened sandstone, inside the block is a cluster of houses with no windows or doors, each house is joined to the next one and has one floor, the entrance is made via a ladder ot the roof, on the roof, there is a communal plaza and a market in which clothing, food and weaponry are sold or traded off. The Sand Dwellers travel via wind surgers, small ships that hover over the sand by means of elaborate and archane stone blowers that convert kinetic energy to wind. The Sand Dwellers religion is similar to that of the mudokons, they worship birds as do the mudokons but they also worship fire as this is the raw force that turned the deserts into what thet are. The sand dwellers are limited in number as they are rich in delactable meat, the Sand dwellers are an aeria lrace with chitinous armour and wings but under there insectoid exoskeleton is a tasty meat. |
My entry is finished, I drew a rainbow sparkledog, hope you liek. Not really. http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...2&d=1259441998 NAME: -> Ampherbanos RELATED TO: -> Not comfirmed to be related to any other critter, but is thought to be a very distant relative to gabbits. HABITAT: -> Most places that have water: swamps, oceans, lakes, rivers etc. LIFESTYLE: -> Generally solitary animals, can live in pairs or team up with gabbits. WHAT ELSE? -> PLEASE READ THE WORD DOCUMENT. IT HAS LOTS MORE INFO ON THESE UGLIES!! I realise now that the colours on the picture aren't the clearest, but it will have to do. There's also an attachment with a background, because I liked it :) |
Woah! theres some very impressive art here!
Dryadri, How do you colour in that impressive? What programs do you use? |
I thought people had lost interest in this xD
Thanks a lot Crashpunk :D I use Photoshop 7.0 |

And should I judge these all myself, or recruit some judges? You have five more days to submit creatures! |
:
|
Me too. Do you want to judge?
|
No thanks. :p I have more than enough tasks on my mind right now.
|
Hiring judges for the Create-a-Critter competition!
You must: a) Have a post count of at least 1. b) NOT have submitted a critter. c) NOT be dating any of the contestants. Anyone? |
:
|
Yeah. It doesn't really matter, provided you don't just give their creatures 10/10.
Anyway. I have very big plans for the SligStorm game, and I dunno about the other guys at Fanwerkz, but I want it to have graphics better than Abe's Oddysee. I want it to look and feel perfect. I have such big plans for it it may take years to make. I'll give all you guys a mention in the credits ;) |
How the heck do you date online..? Eh, nevermind, forget I asked. O_o..
|
:
|
Ah, ok. Well then, that answer's my question then.
Though, if your going to be together in a long term relationship, I'd suggest you move in with him or vice verse-a. I for one met Jolie (My lover of 5 years) awhile back, and then when I hit eighteen I let her move in with me, since I've no living family left. ------------ Kudos to the both of you, at any rate. |
One of them lives and works in America and the other lives and works in Denmark.
|
Well.. at some point we'll move together :)
|
I'm sure you will. :]
|
Am I really on ignore, Ackro?
|
Just don't talk to me Ench, or you will be. Not to be rude or anything.
|
So...are you going to submit anything, whether it be a creature or valuable input?
|
:
|
and the thread has died, god i'd submit another character but ive done two.
|
Right, lets stop this thread being about Nexy's personal life and make it about fan-species.
Ench, since this game you want a creature for is your creation and you have a much better idea of what role you want the creature to fill, I would recommend judging for yourself. It's also much easier. |
It's still stupid to have only one judge, if you can get another one then I'll volunteer to be the third. I'm not being half the judges, however.
Or, you could do it yourself like Splat suggested, I mean it's stupid, but this thread is only a bit of fun after all. |
I'm gunna take a little break from creature-posting. When the time comes, I'll set up my own art thread. Hardly fair of me to soak up the attention when I'm not even interested in being part of the competition.
I will be a judge though, if you still need one. |
Sure. Me, Mr Sekto and Wings of Fire will judge. I made a list of all the creatures a few posts ago, you can go through those, check them and give each marks out of ten. Ten will be enough. If any new creatures are made, do those too.
Oh, and leave Mr Sekto's creatures out; I was going to have to give those 10/10 so I'm glad he's not taking part ;) Thanks for volounteering :) |
Just to reiterate, I just did this for fun as well, but do what you will.
