OMG, SS re-incarnate!

We must ban this person who dares threaten our server!

I won't.

And MS Paint sucks because... do I need to explain? Compare MS Paint to Photoshop in functionality and get back to me.

I may be off-topic here but; MS Paint is severely under-rated. I refuse to read someone call himself decent at virtual graphics and say MS Paint sucks without them being slightly told off a little bit.
Sure, for banners and stuff (presumably your speciality) MS Paint holds little potential and programs like Photoshop prove far superior but those are not the only graphics that exist. Photoshop and such will always be second best to MS Paint for anything that requires fine pixel editing. Also, MS Paint provides a much friendlier atmosphere for sketching designs to be traced into vector art.
MS Paint will never suck.
You've been told.

Faithfully,

(apologies for the rant)

Let's put it this way, all I ever use MS Paint for is for cropping my new avatars.

Skillya Glowi's Oddworldian sketches show its potential though, but you have to be incredible to do that anyway.

Havoc 11-22-2009 06:52 AM

Photoshop = paint + 10.000 other things.

As if you can't edit pixels or create vector art in PS.

T-nex 11-22-2009 06:55 AM

Just wanted to say I agree with Carnix about MS paint... I use it for pixel art, and it's just perfect for that. It has just the perfect key-combinations for me to easily edit something, also I love the eraser-tool when used with right-click :D You can basically recolor any specific color to anything you'd like.
I don't really know any program, that's easier and better to use for pixel editing than MS Paint.

abe is now! 11-22-2009 08:53 AM

Paint is so usefull when I have to make of an Internet page a .jpg file... It doesn't suck!!!

MA 11-22-2009 10:10 AM

you tell 'em, AiN.

enchilado 11-22-2009 04:00 PM

Have you tried the GIMP for pixel-art? I do do pixelling and I use that and it is very, very easy. And I use Ubuntu mainly so no MS Paint for me. I only use Windows for games.

~I tried to use Paint a couple times... compared to the GIMP I wanted to puke.

You know from vector?

Strike Witch 11-26-2009 03:14 AM

Can we host our own avatars and banners yet.

Nate 11-26-2009 03:38 AM

*requisite but unfunny joke about that not being a question due to the lack of question mark at the end*

Why do you want to do that?

Strike Witch 11-26-2009 03:44 AM

So they're not fucking tiny and lowres and difficult to up load?

Wil 11-26-2009 05:11 AM

The answer is no, you can't do that.

Havoc 11-26-2009 06:42 AM

Max, could you tell me why this limit is in place again? To keep the site loading fast and easy or to keep the site's bandwidth usage down?

Wil 11-26-2009 07:20 AM

It's because we're evil cunts.

Well, at least they aren't beating around the bush about it anymore.

fixed

Wil 11-26-2009 03:16 PM

…Not really. We'd have to want to do it first for it to be the effort of doing it that prevents us.

The former, I believe.

Alcar 11-26-2009 06:24 PM

I believe Ghost asked:

So they're not fucking tiny and lowres and difficult to up load?

To which the actual answer is, we don't want huge banners ruining the aesthetics we have built up.

Alcar...

Strike Witch 11-26-2009 06:27 PM

So set a 100 x 200 size limit or whatever, it's just the hosting thing I care about.

Alcar 11-26-2009 06:33 PM

Signature pictures are hosted on OWF's server regardless of whether you upload them from your computer, or specify a HTTP URI. That is how [SIGPIC] functions.

Alcar...

Nate 11-26-2009 06:34 PM

It's difficult - if not impossible - to impose size limits on images that aren't hosted on our servers.

Strike Witch 11-26-2009 09:20 PM

"Signature images must be *width* by *height* or you'll be infracted" ?

Wil 11-27-2009 02:15 AM

You want us to do our jobs manually?!?!

Strike Witch 11-27-2009 02:35 AM

That's what they do on normal-people forums...

Wil 11-27-2009 03:26 AM

If you think this comment is relevent, you can't have been paying attention to our forums. vBulletin automatically rejects avatars that are outside of the dimension and filesizes limits we've chosen.

enchilado 11-27-2009 03:31 AM

If you've chosen them, can't you change them? It's so hard to make your pictures small enough.

Avatars at 12kb will be fine, thanks.

MA 11-27-2009 04:13 AM

never really had a problem with not being able to use an avatar due to its size.

only time that's ever happened is when i wanted to use a portrait of Bub from Day Of The Dead, but i don't get why, as it's a lot smaller than other pictures i use.

EDIT: ah, it was because it was a PNG. changed it to JPG and it works.

MeechMunchie 11-27-2009 04:18 AM

I have never had any problem in the slightest. I just pop it in Picure Manager, crop, shrink, done.

used:) 11-27-2009 07:35 AM

Owf always shrinks my avatar down to the correct dimensions. I like that. A lot. I hate manually recropping.

enchilado 11-27-2009 03:32 PM

I'm fine with any kind of image editing, and JPGs are smaller but the avatars I use almost always contain transparency.

The current one does, as you can see.

And if my image is too big it says IMAGE TOO BIG GO AWAY, although I can't remember the exact words. It doesn't resize it.

Strike Witch 11-28-2009 02:19 AM

It must just be me, my normal avatars on other forums is this size:

enchilado 11-28-2009 04:40 PM

Don't worry, the Wallace and Gromit forums have a 50 x 50 pixel limit. This is nothing.
