Edit: What the hell is the point of a private blog (as it was by default)? I thought the whole idea was to whore yourself out to as many potential victims as possible.
I think it's private to people on your buddy list.

You forgot to tick the 'Allow comments to be posted' checkbox. Fixed now. I'd suggest updating the settings in the Blog Control Panel so this doesn't happen next time.
