To make the foot moon seem a LOT less shit, I shall say that it was formed by meteors and Vykkers Labs blocked it's view. Muds never saw it because when the saw Vykkers Labs they ran in the other direction. Gabbits never saw it because they can't see it from the sea. Vykkers hid it so that Gabbits would not get 'ideas' like the ancient Mudokons. Sligs, Khanzumers and Glukkons don't really care.

So you're saying that Vykker's lab is big enough to hide a moon from an entire continent, no matter where it is in the sky?

I was going to quote that. I say, it's not possible.

Josh 08-25-2009 08:28 AM

It make more sense than a moon coming out of nowhere.

RoryF 08-25-2009 08:55 AM

You are forgetting one thing josh... this is oddworld.:)

MA 08-25-2009 09:50 AM

the moon didn't 'come out of nowhere'. it was always there. the print was not.

Sekto Springs 08-25-2009 01:07 PM

In that case, does the Mudokon moon indicate Abe is the chosen one, or that Mudokons are the chosen race? If each hero gets his own moon, then it stands to reason that the moon is for that individual and not the whole mess of 'em. This makes sense in Munch's case, since he's the last fucking Gabbit alive.

Personally, I'd prefer a big moon that just said "Abe rulz" on it's face. Would make more sense at any rate.

Abe is the chosen one. If mudokons were the chosen race you'd think they would of escaped rupturefarms ages ago. That would destroy the oddworld series.

AlexFili 08-25-2009 03:24 PM

It could just be like Lord of the Rings, where the only way to succeed against evil (Mordor) is to unite all the races together and form peace... so each race is important (Elves/Dwarves, Men/Elves, etc).

STM 08-25-2009 03:39 PM

An easy one is that Elum is backwards for Mule =D

Wil 08-25-2009 05:31 PM

I can't work out whether the use of "Easter egg" in this thread is more or less bastardized than vBulletin's use of "infraction".

Hey, here's an Easter egg: Abe is a Mudokon! Mudokons are slaves!

Fuzzle Guy 08-25-2009 05:37 PM

I had always assumed an Easter Egg was an in-joke hidden in the game, which will make someone smile. The Paramite Pie's reference in Strangers Wrath, even the "Vykkers Labs: Coming Soon" in Abe's Exoddus. That could only have been put there for us fans to notice upon replaying Abe's Exoddus after Munch's release.

Wil 08-25-2009 05:54 PM

One of the key things here is hidden, and another key thing is in-joke (or, more accurately, something the relevance of which is known only to the creator and a small number of other people). The Paramite Pie reference could arguably meet the first requirement, since there's presumably only one place in the game it's said, and the chances of hearing it... by chance... are slim. However, it's not an in-joke, it's a continuity reference than anyone familiar with Oddworld would get. Same applies to the hint flies and SoulStorm Brew bottles in MO, except they're not even hidden.

Now I took the topic of this thread to be inclusive of these continuity references. It is not inclusive of "Elum is Mule backwards," which is all I was really reacting to.

The face in AE is a brilliant Easter egg. No one here has been able to determine its real significance to the artist of that background, and it's so well hidden that it was only discovered a decade after the game's release.

Hardly. I doubt any of the Mudokons who work at Rupturefarms have ever even seen the outdoors. Its probably the same with all the factories and processing plants. Besides, RF has a constant, acrid cloud of smoke looming over it's entirety - so if a Mudokon ever actually got a chance to peek out the window, he'd likely see nothing but a black sky and industry terminating to the horizon.

Also if Abe is the chosen one, why did his moon appear so many years ahead of schedule? If it weren't for that damn moon, Glukkons and Mudokons would probably still have a good rapport.

AlexFili 08-25-2009 11:44 PM

Not to mention that they would have to look past the industrial smog, which was probably there all the time.

1. The moon had to be ahead to tell him he was the chosen one.
2. You spelt report wrong.:D
3. The moon does not have a brain so it wouldn't know anything about a schedule.

Nate 08-26-2009 05:53 AM

2. No, you spelled 'rapport' wrong.

LOL! I'd never heard of the word when I posted Forget 2. Then.
Anyway I don't think MO had many easter eggs anyway! And plus the gamespeak feature doesn't work on my xbox 360 so I can't be asked to look for any.

MeechMunchie 08-26-2009 06:00 AM

Rapport is a word, it means a shared view or 'being on the same wavelength'. Stop trying to correct people, too. It's really annoying. I have to put up with people misspelling words too, but I don't see the point of trying to correct them when it doesn't really contribute anything important.

I love the boarded up door foor RuptureFarms in AE. It made me chuckle.

The moon may not 'know' about a schedule, but we're talking about the mystical alignments of fate here.

EDIT: Oh, Nate posted while I was typing.

I was joking.

MeechMunchie 08-26-2009 06:02 AM

Well it wasn't a funny joke.

Sorry then, did anybody else find the hint flies in MO?

Josh 08-26-2009 06:08 AM

For the last time, YES!

RoryF 08-26-2009 06:12 AM

I might play SW to find some more easter eggs if there are any more.
PS Why are they called easter eggs?

MeechMunchie 08-26-2009 06:14 AM

Because they are hidden prizes.

Oh thanks. Although I reckon because in 3D there's more room. They might of got lazy and forgot to put them in.

Sekto Springs 08-26-2009 10:19 AM

That face on the barrel...

Kool-Aid guy?

GlukkonGluk 09-04-2009 11:27 AM

I think some of us need a little more perspective...smokers walking on their hands control Oddworld, creepy psychic men are their slaves, the seas are infested with talking frogs and the sky is filled with flying pharmacies, and you're getting worked up because the moon has a funny shape on it??? Lol your minds work in odd ways...:P

AlexFili 09-04-2009 12:23 PM

This is odd.

GlukkonGluk 09-04-2009 12:43 PM

Of course...silly me :P

AlexFili 09-04-2009 02:35 PM

A subtle reference...

Stranger's Wrath had minecarts. Abe's Exoddus has minecars.
I think one inspired the other :D

Wil 09-04-2009 03:45 PM

Stranger's Wrath had bats. Abe's Oddysee had bats. I think one inspired the other.

Bullet Magnet 09-04-2009 04:04 PM

Cairns Tropical Zoo has bats. Australian undertones, anyone?

Wil 09-04-2009 04:06 PM

Bats live near me. Wait, what's this tiny camera doing in the corner here?

Fuzzle Guy 09-05-2009 06:55 AM

I don't know but it's been my best friend since I hit puberty.
