No, I was talking about Moby Dick. Be embarrassed.

Wings of Fire 07-27-2009 01:25 PM

In fairness I do remember Starbuck being a consort to the Snow Queen. That must be worth at least some brownie points.

You were talking about Moby Dick. The guy who wrote the article was talking about Battlestar Galactica.

Be embarrassed.

Was so Battlestar Fapfaptica, I'm sorry Gabe. :(

Don't care. Moby-Dick was around before that.

What are you basing that on?

Most of them, but I was pretty aware of technology at a young age and I still am. Fucking DOS owns.

When I did a Java subject in 2002, the first 15 pages of the lab booklet was a tutorial on DOS. I found it very sad that people doing a CSSE degree might never have used DOS before.

If someone hasn't used DOS before, I like them a little less.

I've stated repeatedly that I want to get into the Trades, specifically electronics repair.

If you do, I'll coach you in the business and give you all the repair tips I can. I'm already doing this for a friend in Oregon who's doing TV repair on a wing and a prayer. And many phone calls to me.

The world needs more maintenance and definitely less trash. :)

DOS 1, yes.... a little dos 2, and LOTS of DOS 3.3. MS DOS, IBM DOS, PC DOS, AppleDOS 3.2 and 3.3, ProDOS, and all the other DOS derivitives.

If someone hasn't used OS/2 before, I like them a little less.

And I mean Microsoft OS/2, BEFORE IBM took it over.:fuzvamp:

Oh yes, and I can send a copy to anyone interested in Windows 1.0.

Aweare of most of this besides the computery techno-geekiness. Done about 40-50%. Was even doing the car stereo thing up until 2 years ago.

I know of about 80 of those although I reckon I've only actually done/used about 60 or so.

Although, I don't know about everyone else's GPS, but the GPS we have in our car seems to actively try to get us lost. We got lost less without the damn thing.

Yes. GPPs suck abysmally. We only use ours to get the estimated time of arrival. Good old road atlases or, if desperate, Google Maps, are the best way to go.

What are you basing that on?

I'm basing it on the object of the article being to discuss things in fairly recent pop/geek culture that have fallen by the wayside. In the new BSG, Starbuck is a woman. There was a bit of a controversy at first from fans of the original late 70's/early 80's show.

I mean, were there any other 150 year old references in the article? No. They were all contained to around the last 30 years.

Wings of Fire 07-28-2009 06:57 AM

Also the way it's worded 'Starbuck as a man' kind of means that present day kids will think Starbuck as a woman, as opposed to me who skim-misread and assumed they were talking about the coffee chain.

Oddsville 07-28-2009 01:42 PM

I've done about 80% of all that crap and recognize about 90.

OANST 07-28-2009 01:43 PM

Someone neglected to continue to the second page.

I thought you wanted to be a writer?

The trades are more practical and more of a means-to-an-end. I'm hoping to pay through Film School or something like that with it, but the need for Tradespeople is going to be fucking excellent in the next few years. I can put a hold on putting my parents into debt paying for a College fund to learn how to repair just about everything I own.

I could reply, but WoF already said what I was going to.
