-   -   New Futurama Series will not have original Voice Actors. (http://www.oddworldforums.net/showthread.php?t=18337)

The only way this could work is if it had different characters.
Different voice actors playing the same role is really awkward at the best of times, at other times... it's really annoying.

Nate 07-23-2009 08:25 PM

What about the tens of actors who have played Bugs Bunny, or Kermit the Frog?

If the voice actor is good enough, you won't notice the difference.

used:) 07-23-2009 10:37 PM

Is there anyone who can't mimic those voices? No one can mimic the greatness of John Dimaggio, Katey Sagal, Billy West, and Tress MacNeille. Tress MacNeille is especially recognizable and the characters voiced by Billy West could only be those characters with his voice.

Ugh. Family Guy got to keep its voice actors (who by no means are of equal caliber, except Lois.). Why can't Futurama?

Crashpunk 07-24-2009 06:53 AM

jesus was i like Abelover444 when i first joined? If i was I'm so... SO sorry everyone.

Jordan 07-24-2009 07:43 AM

No, not at all. You're still like him.

:tard:

Crashpunk 07-27-2009 02:34 AM

The new voice actors will be shit. The originals had... ACTING TALENT!!!

I'm not like him. was but not any more.

Leto 07-27-2009 02:55 AM

BOBBY YEW GOT PROPANE IN MY URETHRA

Is that Bobby's last name?

used:) 07-27-2009 11:37 AM

"Bobby you"

OANST 07-27-2009 11:47 AM

What are you trying to say? That he was doing an internet schtick by spelling it wrong? If so, I got that. If not....what are you trying to say?

used:) 07-27-2009 11:48 AM

I thought you were asking if "Yew" was Bobby's last name.

OANST 07-27-2009 12:04 PM

Yeah, I was being silly.

Hobo 07-27-2009 12:07 PM

Jesus christ, this thread is like an abortion gone wrong and raised by a family of mentally deficient people.

In the deep south.

Where's Jesus? I don't see him.

Yeah, Family Guy got to keep all three of it's voice actors. Pfft. Seth Green couldn't voice act his way out of a box and Seth MacFarlane (who provides like 75% of the voicework) stays on because its his creation and he loves money.

I agree though, Sir Gabriel. No one can immitate Billy West or John Dimaggio, and to Nate - who do you think it was they hired to immitate Bugs Bunny in the modern films? None other than Billy West himself.
To hire an immitator of an immitator is just sad.

This is like Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party all over again.

MA 07-27-2009 01:20 PM

dont talk about Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party. its shit and i want to pretend it was never made.

i die a little inside every time i say that.

Agreed. I respect John K. purely for his groundbreaking work in animation, but not as a person.

Leto 07-27-2009 03:35 PM

there was one lol in Adult Party, and that was Dr. Mr. Horse.

True, but its hard to go wrong with Mr. Horse. And thats just it, they didn't really change Mr. Horse (with the exception of adding "Bastard" to his vocabulary).

I miss Powdered Toast Man.

In one film, yes, but then he swore he'd never do it again because everyone kept on meddling in on how he played the character and didn't let him just do his job.

Actually he did Space Jam, Looney Tunes Back in Action, Bah! Humduck, Hare and Loathing in Las Vegas, Duck Dodgers, and numerous others, as well as other classic characters such as Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd. This vow he made must have been fairly recently, because he's done pretty much every "modern" incarnation of the Looney Tunes characters so far.

Nate 07-27-2009 11:31 PM

Damn. I retract my previous statement and point an accusing finger at West himself, when interviewed on Get This (Triple M, 2007) and bitched about doing Bug's voice. If I may backpedal slightly, he may have been referring specifically to the stresses of doing a famous voice in a big-budget movie like Space Jam, rather than direct-to-video stuff.

Yeah. Im actually kind of disappointed in West and the others, especially if they're refusing to continue their work on Futurama purely over pay. What about the love of the show?

Voice acting is a pressing job, but its also incredibly fun. If I was in their shoes, I'd be thrilled to take on the task of acting for a show so well-written and genuinely funny. It would certainly be a nice counterbalance to acting for all of that awful, flash-animated children's fare that make up most of their income.

I really need to watch Ren and Stimpy... Can't believe I didn't see it.
For anyone who likes british comedy, I recommend Red Dwarf. I've got a box-set of the entire series 1-8 and I love it.

Once you do, just steer clear of the Adult Party series. It's pretty much the same show only minus Billy West and the subtlety that made the original so great, as well as as much "gratuitous" swearing and violence that could ever possibly get past a censor. Like Family Guy, the creator just kind of stopped trying and collected the paycheck, but unlike Family, it fizzled out quickly and semi-painlessly.

Mac Sirloin 07-28-2009 01:52 PM

And Western animation boobies. Don't forget those.

Indeed it's important to specify the hemisphere. Which do you prefer? Western T&A or Eastern T&A (ie Hentai)?

Wings of Fire 07-28-2009 02:35 PM

I like my boobies well done, the way ol' Mama Gainax used ter make 'em.

Actually, crisis adverted, Fox are bringing back the old voices

Nate 08-01-2009 05:10 AM

Ha! I figured that it was probably a bluff from Fox. They threatened the same thing to the cast of The Simpsons a few years back.

used:) 08-01-2009 07:47 AM

I didn't think Fox would really be that stupid. And Phil LaMarr's pretty well-known, damnit. Anyway, I'm glad. :)

Wil 08-01-2009 12:32 PM

Phil LaMarr, along with Lauren Tom, Frank Welker and David Herman have yet to be signed on. So far it’s only Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeill, Billy West and John DiMaggio. The former lot only begin their negotiations now that the main five cast members are settled. But I’m hopeful.

OANST 08-01-2009 12:35 PM

Good old Phil LaMarr. I'm still holding out hope for the Samurai Jack movie.

OANST 08-01-2009 12:48 PM

Frederator Films has announced that they are going to make it with Tartakovsky, but, well, you know..... The best laid plans and all that.

Sekto Springs 08-01-2009 12:48 PM

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Tartakovski is notorious for starting projects he doesn't finish. However, since SJ is his own baby I imagine he would be more dedicated to the final product. In short, a Samurai Jack movie is more likely to be completed than The Neverhood movie.
