Looking at the first picture, those do look very similar to Paramites. If they are redesigned to look like that, I wouldn't really mind, it looks pretty good. I do want the Paramite noises back from AO and AE though, the ones in MO are terrible.
I agree with you Max. I really hope they aren't Scrabs. Scrabs aren't actually supposed to have the body shape to be ridden like that. I'd rather them use Elums instead, or a new animal. |
:
Remember last year when we all found out about the "Cattle" that Abe tries to save. Alot of us jumped to the conclusion that the cattle was just a simple word for Paramites, Scrabs, and a few other new creatures we might be seeing. Others immediately thought of cows and sheep. Take a look at this picture. The paintings of the animals on the wall are clearly not Paramites and Scrabs. They appear to be bovine like creatures, which could possibly be what the "cattle" note meant, meaning Scrabs might now be tamed beasts for the Industrialists or what not to ride on. The Industrial equivalent to a dirigible. |
And in case anyone missed the similarity, the horned creature in the middle of that cavepainting pic looks very similar to the one in the third new pic. Which is logical, as both pics were done by Lorne himself.
|
Swanland did the first two, and things will look different depending on what style they're expressed in. I don't these things need to be taken so literally. They're just thumb-nail concepts aren't they?

Well ok but I do like the design, perhaps these paramites are similar but not the same to there jungle cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone noticed that scrabs change and so do paramites voice wise from AO to MO I hate the fact that the new ones sound like gorrilas for frikks sake! |
:
Yes, I think everyone noticed the voice change. |
i wonder if You two have any other unseen pictures, which will be shown only with your decision. i think we, other fans, have the rights to see all your hidden treasures, even if they are really old.

Then you are forgiven, awesome Nathan.
Lots of love, Shit Nathan x x x x |

if i'll find something ODDy i'll share with other guys right away, without any delays "in the name of"-style. that's how it works. |

Oh... this ain't Star Wars folks... right. =( |
And so do we, normally. But we thought these images were very special, and we wanted to make them last. Nothing has been lost, nothing ‘kept for ourselves’, and nothing withheld.
|
by the way...pictures are awesome, nice platform for the juicy holywars.
|
Incidentally I think it would be pretty shit if predators such as scrabs are used as livestock in the film
|
You didn’t like that about Abe’s Oddysee? Or do you mean you wouldn’t like to see them used as beasts of burden?
|
No, I didn't like it about Abe's Oddysee. It always felt like one of the nonsensical things I had to put up with cos it's a video game.
That film flowchart with the references to docile (or at least tame) cattle felt like an affirmation of this. If they are to become beasts of burden, their designs would fundamentally change so they wouldn't exactly be the scrabs we know and love. I don't have a problem with that. |
The complaint that a factory wouldn't really be using ferocious predators as the food isn't much of a valid complaint, to me. In a world that it seems perfectly legal to murder Mudokons - intelligent lifeforms who, providing they have money, would be fully capable of achieving a lifestyle similar to that of a Glukkons, I don't think it is difficult to accept that this world also uses deadly beasts as a primary food source.
|
Yeah. Except back when British society was largely racist and murder-happy, why didn't we use bears, foxes, owls and eagles as primary food sources?????? Makes no sense to me!
|
Because they all taste shit. Scrabs taste gooooooooood. ^^
|
Really Fuzzle Guy, you're saying farming a lean gamey predator makes sense if you have no problem killing the underclass. That's bollocks. Farming a lean gamey predator does not make sense.
The eco-system would require herbivores or omnivores which would be prime candidates for domesticating and farming ala cows or pigs. Animals which would have been farmed for hundreds if not thousands of years.Scrabs and paramites need not apply. |
(foxes and owls taste really really nice actually. There just must be some other reason why we did not farm them all those years ago!)
I also hear lions taste great (unfortunately I've never tried them). Why have the kenyans never bothered to farm them!??????? |
What is the difference between these as a food source and Scrabs?

Those super cows are not used as a food source. They are used as pedigrees in ridiculous competitions.
|
They are eaten. I watched it on TV once. Some food critic. His complaint being fat is needed for flavour.
|
I feel the need to point out that Scrabs and Paramites weren’t farmed, they were hunted.
|
Like Crabs.
Scrab cakes are similar to Crab cakes. |
The stockyards of RuptureFarms is evidence to the contrary
|
Storage. Maturation. Gameplay.

"It always felt like one of the nonsensical things I had to put up with cos it's a video game" |
Dude, come on. Scrabs fucking rule and you're not going to change that. This is fucking Oddworld. If Lorne had a dime for every logical inconsistency in the game, CS would have premiered a long time ago.
Fleeches, for god's sake. They're just like fucking catdog. Should we cut them out too? Explodable, possessible farts. I mean, Jesus! |
Yeah I like scrabs, but not as a farmed animal. My only point is I don't think they would be farmed in an oddworld film.
On a similar note, you reckon Abe will be possessing and exploding farts in the film? |
I don't think Rupture Farms would be Rupture Farms without the legions of suffering wildlife.
And no, I was just pointing out there are much more ridiculous things in Oddworld than whether or not Scrabs are farmed. |

We'd have such fun debating the borderline cases - wells! etc |
Also, I have just realised that the beast with the fire in this picture could in fact be the Shrykull. If the new livestock is going to be the furry bovine-like Cattle, then it would seem to make sense that the Shrykull is going to be composed of these animals, who seem to have replaced the Paramites and Scrabs as the animals of worship in the cave picture.
