My problem is that it's not right behind a mask, it's just an excuse for vandalism and it turns in the public eye from a 'Brave demonstration' or whatever to a lot of anonymous young hooligans spreading anarchy and chaos, leading to a public and media fueled backlash on the matter.

Also if you're going to wear masks wear masks more pertinent to the cause, if people keep mindlessly copying 4chan without even really understanding just what Moore's symbol stands for then I'm justified in keeping taking issue with them.

I disagree with WoF. I think that doing this sort of thing while wearing the "uniform" of an organization shows that there is a certain solidarity between these people. This isn't just some guy who is yelling at you. This is a member of a group with no charters and no names who will make your life difficult even after this event is over. And you will never be able to press charges.

I certainly don't agree with the vast majority of what 4channers do but the act of wearing masks to signify that this is who they are doesn't bother me in the least. And it would appear that you disagree more with their tactics than with their choice of clothing. Sooooooo......yeah.

My point seems to have got rather muddied by my heavy usage of emotional rhetoric so I'll concisely restate what my stance is here.

I do believe in protesting for what you believe in, either masked, wearing a costume or not, but I also think protesters must consider the full consequences of their actions on the lowest common denominator through mainstream media, further more the opposition will latch onto any Ad Hominem arguments they can use against the protesters, such as saturating the tabloids with phrases like 'e-terrorism' and linking them to anon's...colourful history of hurting people for shits and giggles.

This is my main problem with such acts; they end up bringing the issue into the public eye but the fearmongering (Not helped by a masked group wearing a widely aknowledged symbol of anarchy) puts the unwashed masses firmly on the wrong side of the debate.

Also, I have a personal problem with people banding together under that symbol, in that they seem to do it more for laughs than for ideals, it even says so all over their websites.
