Exactly.

No, seriously, what politics? The military UNSC did whatever the fuck it wanted.

Alright, I just have to say that I enjoy Halo alot. The Halo series is one of my favourites. I enjoy the universe in which it is set, I enjoy the story, and I especially enjoy the gameplay. I could be considered a "fanboy" in that I've read as many of the books as I've been bothered to get my hands on and I like to make a point of the quality in the games, not in the way that I think Xbox 360 and Halo and Bungie are the best ever and everyone should like them.

People can go on about how much they don't like it all they want. However, and I've made a point of this many times elsewhere, when people says they hate something and then make out that anyone who likes it is a moron with horrible tastes, they make themselves appear completely arrogant and pretentious... and I know a few.

I've had people literally look at me in disgust when I mention that I like Halo. These are the same people that everyone gets the shits with when they walk into the classroom spouting every possible 'fact' about some 1930s film they make themselves out to enjoy because it would mean they have 'reformed tastes', making them better than anyone else, to their 'friends' who don't really give two shits. And then lie about having a girlfriend for good measure.

And for the topic... I was a little worried about Halo Wars. I always thought the units in Halo would make for a good RTS, but releasing it only for console was, in my opinion, a pretty strange choice. Although, the closer it is coming to release, the more I want to play it and see how it goes. I've seen people with bad expectations saying how surprised they were with the demo. I suppose you could see that as 'it could be average and they'd like it', but either way, if I'm not going to purchase this for the gameplay, I will purchase it for the cutscenes and the storyline.

lol you're kidding right? I like the Gears story somewhat, but for the mysterious Locust. Not the half-baked Dom's wife thing. You go the whole first game without a mention of this woman, but suddenly throughout the second game Dom won't stop crying about her. I found the mystery of Marcus Fenix's father far more interesting then the < insert dramatic romance here > sub plot.

They actually did foreshadow the whole Maria thing in the first game. The stranded who lends them the car says that he's had no luck in finding "the lady".

Ghost: The rift in the covenant (which takes up quite a bit of the story) could be called political drama. It could be called that if it was better written.

Oh snap I never noticed that. That makes it slightly not as lame. Still lame, but not quite as much.

Hobo 02-12-2009 10:31 AM

What, I thought it was quite obvious that the Maria thing was forshadowed.

I guess, but that was more "Raarg we still hate you dudes cuz you used to beat us up in the school yard" by the Prophets.

WALL OF TEXT

Epic knew they did a bad job on the first game's story, they did as good as job as they could to actually make it interesting. Regardless of whether you think Maria is foreshadowed or not, it feels far more important than most anything Halo does in the games. The second in a trilogy always leaves more questions than answers, or it wont be a trilogy, I expect Epic to expand on the Sires alot in the third game. Thats where Halo really dropped the ball, the third in the Trilogy really dropped alot of the story. They didn't expand on the Covenant breaking up, even though in Halo 2 there are Hunters and Grunts that fight by your side. The story felt extremely shallow and pretentious. Gears 2 was almost the opposite, deep enough to keep you interested, but it knew that it wasn't going to be the next Star Wars or Trek. I don't read the Halo books, so I can't comment on those, Im talking about the games only here.

Something On Topic- Halo Wars story seems far more interesting than the rest of the Halo games right now.

I call bullshit. That's not foreshadowing, that's putting in something that won't make any sense at all until you've played Gears 2.

Halo 2 originally had much more going on to show the 'rift of the covenant.' But then there were dead lines for a console defining game. You really should check out the books sometime. It really adds a lot more story to the Halo universe.

That's what foreshadowing is. Mostly.

It made sense at the time. They just didn't let on that it was going to be a big part of the story.

Again, I do not think that Gears is the height of storytelling. Far from it. But it's better than Halo.

Really? Gears story is prominently: Aliens are bad. Shoot them.

You clearly have not played much of Gears. The story is : The Molemen are bad. Shoot them.

I mean yeah. They do come out of the ground, but when discussing them I've never heard of them referred to as 'mole-men'. Always aliens. They look the part.

Hobo 02-16-2009 02:16 PM

Alien implies not from this world. Can't get more from this world than the centre.

Also; Gears is WAY more story driven than Halo. And that's saying something.

If I ever play Gears online again I'm going to call Horde 'Molemen assault trial'.

The whole "this game versus that game"-"mainstream versus anti-mainstream" argument makes me feel so very tired.

The whole "this game versus that game"-"mainstream versus anti-mainstream" argument makes me feel so very tired.

Then why did you bring back a thread that hadn't been posted in for two weeks? Hmmmm? Hmmmmmmm?

Explain that with your science.

Bullet Magnet 03-06-2009 01:53 PM

It was marked "unread". So I read it. Lo and behold, I was tired, and overtaken by the urge to tell everybody.

The science of this does not add up to scrutiny.

Bullet Magnet 03-06-2009 02:15 PM

Ah, but that is because I cunningly omitted any.

OANST 03-06-2009 02:19 PM

But science is everywhere, in everything. Your omission is a failure, sir.

I think you are confusing a systematic method and body of knowledge with that god character.

You did not just try to argue with the OWF god of knowledge...

Tell me you didn't!!!

Halo is a good game but i don't have a 360 (I don't really want one :P) Halo wars looks sweet

I also loved Age Of Empires and Halo wars is the same sort of thing so i might play it at my mates
