Yeah, I understood it.

Agreed.

It's no secret that I had a problem with this film from the first time I ever heard of it. I found the logo they used for it to be moronic and the idea to be dated. Especially, the idea of gas rising to such outrageous prices that they would need armed guards at the gas stations. There have been huge strides in alternative fuels in the last ten years so by the time this happened I find it highly unlikely that people would just lie down and pay these exorbitant fees. I understand that it's supposed to be topical. I just feel as if the topic has been done, couldn't be done better, and is out of date (partially. I do understand that there is more to it than the gas crisis).

However, I find Lorne's execution of the stories that he is trying to tell to be spot on, for the most part. He breathes life into the characters in ways that very few artists are capable. In SW, for instance, I hated the idea and appearance of the Clakkerz. I still do not think that they are one of his best creations but when I got the game I didn't mind them. They annoyed me but only in the way that they were supposed to annoy me.

Bottom line: I hope good things are to come from this company and I am pleased that CS will not get the opportunity to tarnish them in my mind.

I'll continue to believe in Lorne and his ability to do incredible things with stories as well. We've just gotten very brief views of what CS may be, and at this point it could go in any direction. The storyteller can really change the story, even if it is an outdated one, and that's what I'm expecting in CS.

Of course, I would prefer another story set on Oddworld before anything else...

or at least refrences or posters in the backround related to oddworld in CS

GlukkonGluk 12-05-2008 12:19 PM

All of Lorne's plans for Oddworld... I hope he wrote them down somewhere!

Wil 12-05-2008 12:41 PM

Why? He’s still there.

Kimon 12-05-2008 02:27 PM

I am consistently doubtful of Oddworld Inhabitants. Naught but letdown and confusion since Stranger's Wrath. Blah! Blah!

Nate 12-05-2008 04:26 PM

But there's been naught but naught in that time...

lbyrd2 12-05-2008 11:28 PM

thats probably why Kimons doubtful

Incognito 12-06-2008 02:43 PM

I have to admit that at times, I've been a bit worried (and annoyed) for the future of Oddworld ever since Stranger's Wrath; its probably the looooong wait combined with absolutely no info whatsoever that fuelled this. But we've stuck in there and slowly, but surely things are looking brighter; I have to say Nate, your interview with Lorne was one inspiring read that makes one just yearn for more Oddworld delights.

I suppose in years to come we can look back over these comments and then laugh merrily over our wavering disbelief in Lorne & Sherry, whilst we hopefully ready ourselves to go out & queue in line at the local Odeon for the matinee premiere of "Oddworld: The Big Screen Adventure" (hopefully it will have a better name than that, though). Then we'll see how foolish we were really being. :D ;)

Bullet Magnet 12-06-2008 09:17 PM

That would be something worth meeting up for, at any rate. Guests of honour at the premier, if we're lucky.

Jordan 12-07-2008 02:37 AM

Well, I know at least the mods and administrators should get the privelege to see the premiere, but it would indeed be awesome to all go together.

I doubt OWI will disappoint us as much as they did with MO or SW again. Stranger's Wrath wasn't even that bad, it could've been worse, but it turned out to be an okay game. Thing is, they wanted to try something different, and a lot of fans didn't like it. But you have to think, they probably had all those years planning AO, and that's why it turned out so well. We're not going to see any news on the new game anytime soon, so that means they'll have had years to make this game, meaning it'll be decent.

Bullet Magnet 12-07-2008 11:11 AM

Well, OWI was founded in 1994, so AO had 2-3 years actual development time. It was another age back then, when you could actually develop a new code with an entirely novel engine in a year without an army of supermen programmers working 24/7.

Wil 12-07-2008 12:19 PM

Although that is how they created the A.L.I.V.E. engine…

Bullet Magnet 12-07-2008 01:09 PM

They didn't invest in that ethically questionable genetic engineering program for nothing.

Stranger's Wrath is the best peice of shit ever to come out of OddWorld Inhabitants.

please note that by calling it shit, I'm not dissing it.

Bullet Magnet 12-07-2008 11:24 PM

It's bigger than any other faecal deposit anyone else ever made, thus trumping them all. In a world of excrement, only size matters. And, I supposed; fragrance, consistency, colour and content. But they don't count for video games.

Phylum 12-08-2008 12:19 AM

Shapiro better not screw up, otherwise he'd have a whole horde of angry computer nerds(generalization) on his tail.

lol

Don't get me wrong, I love Stranger's Wrath. I think its a brilliant game, love it to pieces; I meant that after OWI released it we didn't really hear anything else but disappointments and silence.

All seventeen of us.

For the record, I think Stranger's Wrath was an extraordinary game. Much better than MO.

Bullet Magnet 12-08-2008 05:40 PM

Stranger's Wrath was more of a case of starting with the game you wanted to make and building on it from there. MO was like getting fifteenth century Europeans to build the Empire State building in its current location in half the time.

lbyrd2 12-08-2008 08:36 PM

I haven't been able to play SW before.

Oh, good. You have it now. So, before what, anyway? What changed?

lbyrd2 12-09-2008 08:30 PM

I meant I haven't played it yet, but I will probably get it on stream when it comes out.

abe is now! 12-10-2008 07:21 AM

Oh, my god. That was completely unintelligible.

Nate 12-10-2008 04:24 PM

Intelligible enough to me. Perhaps AiN is speaking at too high a level for you OANST?

The previous president of Oddworld Inhabitants was Lorne. Now he's stepped aside from that role to focus on being creative director.

I think Xavier already told us that, in the first post.

Wil 12-12-2008 11:02 AM

I think Nate was specifically answering AIN’s question.

I really didn't know that this was the question being asked. I was honestly confused.

Chocolate Hunter 12-13-2008 03:22 AM

It all seems like good news to me. Lorne's now free to do everything he does best without getting bogged down by all of the paperwork, and Citizen Siege will have time to breathe. I'd rather wait a while than see an Oddworld movie next year that didn't live up to my expectations, because I have to admit they're pretty high.

Nate 12-13-2008 04:05 AM

Well, the good news is that you're definately not going to see an Oddworld movie next year that won't live up to your expectations.

lbyrd2 12-13-2008 01:28 PM

does that mean no movie or CS is coming out next year now?

Xavier 12-13-2008 02:23 PM

It's pretty safe to assume nothing is coming out next year as no official announcements have been made.

Hobo 12-17-2008 12:52 PM

Oh how I wish I had powers in Zulag one.

Makes W&B seem like heaven.

How could this happen?! He better not mess this up, or else there's going to be a really big riot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OANST 01-14-2009 05:54 PM

A riot of one if need be!

Look, man. Something needed to be done. There are some good ideas rolling around in that place but there have been some bad business decisions as well. We will never see anything if the money dries up.

O.W.I.Freak 01-14-2009 05:57 PM

Right, good point.
