We joined Hannibal Lecter half way through his series (Most audiences hadn't seen Manhunter before Silence of the Lambs) and we knew what was going on.

And if not, you could have a bunch of Mudokons tell someone what was going on. I don't want an Abes Oddysee movie. I'm not sure whether it's my need for something new from Oddworld, or whether I just don't like the idea of AO in movie form.

what?!

you dont wanna see sligs beat & shoot mud's so violently it makes your ears burn, on the big screen?

Sticker 02-05-2008 07:58 AM

Well, Xavier, there are limited levels of 3D paramites and honestly the quality aint great. So here's a guy making them himself using just paint. Imagine what happens if we advance this to modern gamemaking.

No, I don't want to see an entirely new story line where the gameplay should be. Like I said before, 70 minutes is a long time of "Hello, Follow me"

Have you ever seen Resident Evil? It's crap but at least Jill doesn't spend half the movie slightly limping trying desperately to conserve ammo and herbs for the boss fights.

Sticker 02-05-2008 09:55 AM

ROFL he's got a gd point there. Rofl limping sorry im gigglish.

Fuzzle Guy 02-05-2008 11:54 AM

Resident Evil isn't as much of a classic as Oddworld. Not in my eyes anyway.

Thats not the point. The point is that every little thing happening in the game will not be translated to the movie.

Fuzzle Guy 02-05-2008 12:09 PM

I know that, but I think I don't want to see new plots added into it. It just seems like Lucasing a work of art.

Wings of Fire 02-05-2008 12:10 PM

Sigh >.< They won't be added in as the quintology was originally designed to be movies.

Fuzzle Guy 02-05-2008 12:18 PM

Believe me, they will add new ideas in, regardless as to whether or not they were originally deisgned as movies.

Wings of Fire 02-05-2008 12:20 PM

Then this comes down to how much faith you have in Lanning to make good changes and bring good new ideas in.

MA 02-05-2008 12:22 PM

did you actually think that the Oddworld movies were going to consist of watching a mudokon go through Rupture Farms saving mudokons repetitively? if that was the case they may aswell of just recorded themselves playing the game.

Resident Evil didn't contain bad graphics and giant tarantula's (other than zombies),
Doom wasn't filmed directly through the eyes of the main character constantly,
even Tron didn't make a movie of a line moving across a screen avoiding other lines! (beleive it or not).

i'm sorry i just can't comprehend you thought there'd be no decent storyline and it would be just like watching somone play the game. even the cinematics in AO & AE portray life behind the 2D nature!

Xavier 02-05-2008 09:43 PM

Of course there will be more in the films then in the games...

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...php?menu=CAOM1

we never had a chance to look at the Labor Union in the game

Fuzzle Guy 02-06-2008 07:25 AM

Yeah, I didn't know they were making AO, I thougth they were making abe movie set after Munch.

Jordan 02-06-2008 10:49 PM

I was wondering how they'd make the film. Oddworld is just one of those games you could never imagine as a movie, with it being 2D platformer and all. But I'm sure OWI will pull it off and make it look beautiful as usual. And it'd be nice to see some stuff we never found out in AO.

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 12:44 AM

The movies will not be movies of the games, the games were games of the movies. They won't be adding stuff in, they already cut stuff out.

Wil 02-07-2008 01:06 AM

With it being more than a decade since Abe’s Oddysee was released, I fully expect the final film to contain plots and characters that the pre‐game plan had, because the Oddworld universe has been explored so much since then. Thing is, how would we know? ;)

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 01:17 AM

We know that there were major plot revisions during development, ie Abe staring out in the wild and coming to Rupture Farms. Obviously the way we see it in game is a stronger story. I'm just interested to know when the draft from which the move will be based on was written, because although it was planned as a film before game development, it must have been written during development.

i've always thought of the Oddworld games as films anyway, thats why im really looking forward to the movies. but as i've said before, i hope they dont make them really childish.

OddYouko 02-07-2008 06:34 AM

I'm also looking forward to them. Yeah like mullocks assistant said I really hope they don't make them childish either.

But I always imagine another part coming after when Abe yells "get me outta here!" like it showing him hiding from the Slig and stuff. I just like to continue it in my head like if it were to become a movie. :fuzzle:

Bullet Magnet 02-07-2008 07:18 AM

No doubt there are some new main characters with which to share meaningful dialogue along the way. And of course boring, quiet and repetitive sequences, if they are even implied in the plot of the film at all, can easily be cut away as attention turns to Molluck and his cronies, or perhaps Bigface and the natives. For example.

Xavier 02-07-2008 08:25 AM

Shouldn't be too childish... Lorne really seems to want to make the films dark and mature.

Citizen Siege will definitely not be a movie for children

Currently OWI is busy with Citizen siege.... so.... were kinda bored all together. Buuut, whats gonna happen when they finish Citizen Siege? Well I'll tell you what happens, were gonna be seeing *trumpets, drums and the whole shebang get ready* ODDLINE!!!! That's right Oddline, an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, i know it sounds Odd, wasn't my idea). Basicly players can play a race on Oddworld and do all manner of cool stuff like learning how to shoot throw rocks et cetera. But what do you see?

coooooooooooolllllllll!!!!!!!!

Bullet Magnet 02-08-2008 07:21 AM

Sticker made it all up. It's a possibility, but that card is still deep in the library.

Wil 02-10-2008 03:47 AM

To those who look forward to watching an hour and a half of ‘Hello’, ‘Hello’, ‘Follow me’, ‘O.K.’, I say: ‘Bow down and worship my quote.’
:

We know that the game stories haven’t even scratched the surface of what the film stories will ultimately reveal. They’re much more epic and dark in nature. So far, with the games, it’s like we’ve been making the comic book versions of these motion picture stories. The features will share similar themes and core concepts as the games, but when fans see them it will be orders of magnitude above what they would have expected.

MA 02-10-2008 03:55 AM

that has happily confirmed my hope that the Oddworld films will be good.
