Oscar nomination really??

And thank you Xavier. Makes me want to play it again.

Sorry, but why didn't you show it up before?

Like AIN said, I didn't have enough time...

and more importantly I didn't have the needed hardware until a couple of months ago

Havoc 01-28-2008 01:05 AM

Not that I don't respect the work OWI did over the years but why did this get nominated for an Oscar?

And it was in San Louis Obispo's cinemas just for a day.

It was shown from 27 to 29 October 1999 in the Laemmle Theaters of Los Angeles.

It didn’t get nominated: it was submitted for Oscar consideration.

EDIT: Also, I hate my crappy computer. Could someone put this on youtube? Please? It always plays the sound, but not the video.

Go to http://www.divx.com/ and press the Free Download button. That will provide all the codecs you need to play it.

Zerox 01-28-2008 10:02 AM

Can it go on Youtube anyway? I really am not having the time to fully download this and watch it. My computer is just generally too crap.

zimfromBM 01-29-2008 01:49 AM

Damn, finally I get to see the movie after all these years. Also, people who cant play it should just download VLC, it can play anything.

I saw in the artbook the ticket to enter the cinema: there is "San Louis Obispo on it.

I am ashamed.

Xavier 01-29-2008 06:08 AM

Don't worry, everybody can make mistakes ;)

abe is now! 01-29-2008 06:12 AM

Thank you Xavier! But after this movie was submitted for Oscar consideration, what happened?

Xavier 01-29-2008 06:21 AM

It wasn't nominated and the story end there pretty much...

abe is now! 01-29-2008 06:43 AM

I am weeping!!! NO!!! I hope the Oddworld movie will win an Oscar :D!!!

Nate 01-29-2008 07:57 AM

The movie was shown at a cinema (The Palm, if memory serves me correctly) in San Luis Obispo on the night of the AE release party.

Oddey 01-29-2008 08:12 AM

I agree with Zerox. It'd be nice if someone posted it on Youtube.

This is all news to me, but The Art of OWI confirms they did indeed watch the short at a local theatre, and there is a Palm Theatre in SLO. I can’t see anything about it online, though. Knowledge gleaned from your time there?

abe is now! 01-29-2008 10:00 AM

I was too young when AE was released (I was four years old). I'm sorry I can't tell you what was going on in Italy. Certainly advertising showed something but I can't remember anything.

Fuzzle King 01-29-2008 10:28 AM

i noticed at the scene where abe blows out of the mines into necrum and lands painfully, the scene is like a reversed angle, like in a mirror, than that of the scene in AE game.

btw great video loved every bit.

Well, if it was in a local theatre it was almost definately The Palm as that's the small, independant cinema. The other one is a big chain.

The Palm is a nice little place. I saw Wallace & Gromit and Transamerica there.

Fuzzle Guy 01-30-2008 09:44 AM

Xavier, I believe many years ago Abe presented a section of the Oscars (I could be wrong?) You wouldn't happen to have the video of that would you?

Xavier 01-30-2008 10:32 AM

No I'm sorry, I have no idea how far they went with that movie, I wasn't really following OWI at that moment

Fuzzle Guy 01-30-2008 10:54 AM

Lol, never mind. I'm sure, if Abe did present it, the video'll crop up somewhere on the internet in the future (especially when the Oddworld movies come out.)

The first fictional character I remember presenting them was Woody and Buzz when Toy Story 2 was released. It would probably have been the year before that so I (being six years old) didn't care about the Oscars so would have missed Abe.

Xavier 01-30-2008 12:26 PM

Abe didn't present them, I'm sure we would have heard of it...

Nate 01-30-2008 12:59 PM

Certainly it makes no sense to have an unknown character from an un-nominated film present an award.

The Bug's Life characters also presented an award.

Maybe I'd got that mixed up with someone else then, but I know that Abe certainly wasn't unknown. I'm not sure about in the States but here in the UK, everybody knew who Abe was. He had a shortlived fame but people still knew who he was.

abe is now! 01-31-2008 06:14 AM

There is a mini-clip where Abe is playing AE in the desert. And then another Mudokons show AE's CD's box (French). What is it? Is it related to the short film or to other things?

Wil 01-31-2008 06:47 AM

It’s an advert.

zimfromBM 02-05-2008 05:03 PM

I was kindof dissapopinted in the film TBH, I thought it would be more than just a guy talking in between the ingame clips.

Arxryl 02-05-2008 05:21 PM

cool! I need to watch this vid! It's opening up media player as I speak. Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: finished watching it, and thought it was pretty good. :)

DarkHoodness 02-05-2008 06:59 PM

Aw, man. :( When I read earlier about there being a special Abe's Exoddus movie, I thought it was something specail that OWI had created, rather than the movies from AE patched together with some FMVs of a mudokon talking. :P

Still, thanks for uploading this anyway. :D At least we all didn't miss something by not being in the cinema when they played this - And any extra FMV footage created by OWI is awesome, even if it's just simply a talking character.

(I'm glad I got the original FMVs on that Stranger DVD which Alector gave me a while ago. Even if they're in Deutsch. :P )

KintoKid 02-06-2008 09:52 PM

Hi. I found the link to this video via OddBlog, but I cannot figure out how to download it, or any of the other videos hosted in the same location. My cursor does not allow me to click on the title, description, picture, size, et cetera, in order to download this video - how do I do it [I have DivX and Firefox, although I tried this through Internet Explorer as well, just in case]?

Thanks for any help you can offer me.

Wil 02-07-2008 02:04 AM

Hi KintoKid. You have to click on the word ‘DIVX’. This is because some other videos come in more than one filetype.

Xavier 02-07-2008 08:18 AM

Yeah I should try to find some time to put the links in another color, I think it will avoid some trouble :p

AbesGenerationX 02-11-2008 11:12 AM

Awesome! thanks

Kyle 02-15-2008 08:49 PM

Aww, my Windows Media Player doesn't seem to want to play it. Really disappointing.

Bullet Magnet 02-15-2008 09:15 PM

Just download a free DivX player.

abe is now! 02-16-2008 01:56 AM

AbesGenerationX 02-16-2008 02:01 AM

Woha, that's an awesome program!

Kyle 02-16-2008 06:53 AM

Thanks for the link... I'm playing the vid right now :)
