I sincerely doubt that...sometimes, but not majorly often. Most murders tend to be quick and simple, as obviously it's more difficult to spend ages doing it for the sake of torture.

There's not much I can say that hasn't been already. But certainly, laws on the whole should be more strict, and those that involve animals should be upped to human level, too. It's like humans think they have more right or something...considering what we've already done to the planet, we should have far less right to live.

Animals have been abused and exploited throughout history. Unfortunately, it's a fact of life. Terrible? Sure. But dwelling on a couple of dogs being beaten/killed won't change much in the grand scheme of things.

Though Molluck's Assistant didn't exactly do the best thing by getting aggressive towards OANST, OANST is hardly an angel here either. Normally amusing, but this a rather touchy subject, it's not really the place for this sort of thing at all. Though Hobo says we are all 'ganging up' on OANST, maybe there's an obvious reason for that? Maybe it wasn't offensive to rape victims, but it was hardly the sort of comment we want in a thread like this. I don't think I can say anyone in this argument is 'right' at all.

Responding back on topic to Paul here, all that sort of things is humans own fault. They're the ones who decide it's a good idea to make weapons and go to war on each other. That's what separates us from animals: Needless violence and large scale battles. Not exactly a good defining feature. There are very rarely innocent victims in humans cases like this, though in cases behind closed doors etc. the victim should come out to the police and be less withdrawn, and the offender is a sick twisted fuck in these cases. While when animals are involved, the animal is always an innocent, unless it was a crocodile attacking someone or something, but it usually isn't. The person involved should have been more careful anyway, usually their own stupid fault.

Why is everyone getting upset by this sort of thing now? It happens every day all of the time. Why are you only angry when one particular example is brought to your attention by a sensationalist media? Poor show, I say.

Well, animals arent as intelligent as Humans (sorry Lassie), so they wount be able to pick locks, undo chains, untie themselves...(though some can't, but hardly any...) So they are easier to keep captive, and cant run ot the police and tell them if they escape...

This is exactly what makes the mistreatment of humans worse, in my opinion. Unlike a dog, we are capable of mistrusting someone and their intentions. Unfortunately, do to sheer force, and underestimation, or drugs, sometimes that isn't enough. By comparison it seems like small potatoes when someone kills or injures an animal. To outwit, and hold a human against their will so that you can act out some sort of twisted fantasy or ill-conceived notion, is much, much worse.

A dog, for example, does not really have any idea that it is about to be hurt, tortured, or even murdered. After enough abuse, sure, it might be wary, but it will never feel the pure terror that a human must feel in a similar situation. Our brains are different, and, as a result, we feel and experience more than any other animal ever could.

You made the point of an animal being helpless in that it would be unable to free itself and run to the police. Does a human not fall into the same category when in the exact same situation? Animals have it bad, but people have it worse.

I agree, it's all "OH MY FUCKING GOD! THAT ANIMAL WAS SMACKED BY A CRICKET BAT!" But there's none of that if it happens to a human. A human knows full well what is happening, and it has to live or die with that, where's an animal has fogged feelings, and doesn't really understand.
