I would just like to register my annoyance with the use of the word ‘infraction’ to mean ‘reprimand’. Infractions are committed by the guilty party, i.e. you lot. vB has recently improved its whole scripting of these things, but the terminology they use is confusing and tiresome.

my infraction doesn't prevent me doing anything though! So what was the actual point of my infraction?

I gave you a reprimand for expressing yourself in a way that thoroughly vexed me because of its callousness and derogatory wording. It may not carry a punishment that affects your abilities to participate on Oddworld Forums, but it brings you a step closer to receiving such a penalty.

Incidentally, I was always aware that I was arguably being harsh with my judgement (despite seeking permission from higher powers before issuing the reprimand), and since then I have glossed over several particularly spammy posts by you, choosing just to delete them, to even things out slightly. However, should your superfluous messages continue appear in Oddworld Discussion discussions, you will be hearing from me.

Hope that clears things up. :)

*sigh*
Don't confuse the issue any further Max. Yes, the term we use may not be the official dictionary definition, but until Alcar/vB change the terminology 'infraction' is what it will be called.

Wil 09-02-2007 05:14 AM

BS. I can’t give an infraction. That’s the terminology that is confusing. I’m proposing an alternative that makes sense to begin with.

Alcar 09-02-2007 05:50 AM

Hey, they're [vBulletin] based in Britain. It's your education system. Take it up with them :p

Alcar...

Wil 09-02-2007 05:58 AM

My education system? Unless the guilty people went to my school, it has nothing to do with my education. Besides, I’m not the one with a vB account. You actually pay them, you’re the one to raise the issue with them.

Alcar 09-02-2007 04:54 PM

They went to a school somewhere in England, and I can only suspect that it was your education system that failed them :p

In other words, it's staying at infractions unless vBulletin decides to change it.

Alcar...

Havoc 09-03-2007 03:23 AM

I propose changing the word infraction to the word Bitchslap. Imagine the fun we'll have!

"If you spam one more time I'm going to bitchslap you!"

"I bitchslapped that guy because he spammed..."

"You have recieved a bitchslap for spamming. This bitchslap will expire in three months."

Ah good fun.

Alcar 09-03-2007 04:09 PM

I'd be willing to put in the hours and change everything to bitchslap.

Alcar...

Mistress of Oddworld 09-03-2007 05:02 PM

I think they are COMPLETELY fair, without them, who knows what our forums would become?

How's that, lady?

alf's brother's mate 09-04-2007 09:10 AM

"dear ........... , you have recieved a bitchslap at oddworld forums. This Bitchslap is worth 50000000 points. You are permanently banned from using a computer. further infractions may cause you to be banned from going to bed. please pick your "Moderator offending" comments more carefully

All the best, oddworld forums.

hehehe.....

Havoc 09-05-2007 04:53 AM

See Alcar, everyone is in support. Now do it! :D

Alcar 09-05-2007 05:04 AM

As humorous as it would be, a level of professionalism must be maintained :p

Alcar...

alf's brother's mate 09-05-2007 10:45 AM

i agree. *sobs* but it would be fun though.
sorry max for the spammy posts, and i assure you that i will do my best to stop myself.

Al the Vykker 09-05-2007 04:19 PM

Why do people care about this so much?

Havoc 09-07-2007 06:25 AM

Because it's the internets?

alf's brother's mate 09-07-2007 08:16 AM

or we are sad and weird little people who live hunched over in front of a computer screen, and don't have a social connection or relation to the outside world.

Majic 09-07-2007 11:20 AM

Of course infractions are unfair. Moderators here have a long-standing history of being biased bastards. Only, the people who get warned tend to be the people others force themselves to tolerate. So sure, the system is corrupt, and I might still be in bed with Peter's Peter, but it staves off total flame wars. "Infractions" (what the hell happened to calling them warnings?) are the lesser of two evils, in a sense.

"Infractions" (what the hell happened to calling them warnings?)

Warnings became infractions when vBulletin updated the ability for forum staff to customize and administer penalties to users, and started calling them infractions. The word ‘warning’ was always confusing, especially when a staff member gave a warning that incurred a penalty. We also had to come up with our own term ‘caution’ to describe verbal warnings that we gave members, but which didn’t count towards the the three strikes of our three‐strikes‐and‐you’re‐out practice. A warning now is what used to be a caution.

alf's brother's mate 09-09-2007 03:48 AM

Thankyou majic.
look max, can we just forget about this whole thing now? my infraction expired 5 days ago. This thread wasn't meant to be 3 pages long!

Wil 09-09-2007 07:07 AM

ABM: I’m not holding anything against you.

alf's brother's mate 09-09-2007 07:37 AM

i am very pleased to hear this - a moderator holding a grudge against me after 2 months would not be a good start. nope. not at all. and what does ABM mean?

Wil 09-09-2007 09:10 AM

It’s your name. :p

Laser 09-09-2007 12:19 PM

Majic...i wouldn't call the mods biased bastards.

No i would call them Sadistic Bastards but thats just me

Mutual Friend 09-10-2007 01:07 AM

No no no, they evidently ARE biased, and only a couple are 'bastards'.

Patrick Vykkers 09-10-2007 04:09 AM

I would say that the moderators are not unfair, but rather inconsistent. Certain members seem to receive virtual immunity from prosecution and even special titles and others who engage in lesser or similar antics are rightfully prosecuted.

alf's brother's mate 09-10-2007 04:47 AM

I knew that

i knew that max.

No, that is actually called unfairness, Pat.

Majic 09-10-2007 12:51 PM

Irony

:

My point is, that there are a bunch of us who are really fed up with the way your all letting Melvin suck your dick! He is just being a constant wanker, saying things like "your racist", "your a jew", "I fucking hate those fucking negros", "fucking dirty jew" etc. We are all getting fed up with the way your letting him totally get away with it, whereas I get half the worlds supply of building bricks thrown at me for being blunt with my opinion.
That my friends, is part of an old message in my inbox from a mister RC (who I guess may or may not still exist on another name here- who knows). Good memories, good memories.

Damn I was awesome.

I recon if we had Mitsur here we could start another campaign... You know, Bikini for Havoc, give Ghost Burial Grounds, Down with Corrupt Mods...

At the end of the day, the infraction system is meant to filter out the people who generally didn't mean to spam from the people who don't care either way. If you broke a rule without meaning to then you get an infraction, it expires and you never have to worry again. It's only if you're A: a complete n00b who will spam until the apocolypse regardless of how many infractions he gets, or B: An idiot who explodes in a violent expression of rage if anyone says they're doing wrong, that will suffer at all from getting an infraction.

Hobo 09-10-2007 02:56 PM

The mods get the job done I feel. Bias yes, I will agree. But they're only human.

None of the mods are bastards as far as I can tell.

Oh other than Pete. :tard:

Mutual Friend 09-10-2007 03:56 PM

Halfway there. You forgot the King Bastard: Havoc.

Patrick Vykkers 09-10-2007 05:23 PM

The fact that Hobo hasn't been banned due to the mods liking him (Alcar even said he used to regularily talk with him) is a classic example of mod bias. He made a whole spam topic dedicated to worshipping himself, spams up most topics, insults the mods and admins, often sexually, and even openly calls himself a troll. Any other member would have been banned for that, but because of his connections, he gets immunity and a special title.

Havoc is not a bastard. Granted, he thinks debating is actually a "Say the word f*ck most often" contest but he, despite hating me, has not gone after me in spite. So he's not a bastard as a mod.

Mutual Friend 09-10-2007 06:17 PM

I wasn't talking about him as a moderator, I was talking about him as a person, in his heart and soul. But let's not give him anymore exposure, he'll lap it up.

Amazing how the people who say this sort of thing are also the same people who have received infractions. Frankly, you don't know who has and hasn't received infractions. FYI (thought it's probably breaking a few rules to reveal this), in my time as GM I have given infractions to both Hobo and OANST. Extract your head from your anus, take two aspirins and you'll feel better in the morning.

Patrick Vykkers 09-10-2007 07:54 PM

And how is it the result of having my head up my arse that I happen to not have access to mod-only info?

Take a Chill Pill.

Nate 09-10-2007 08:14 PM

No, it is due to your head up your arse that you couldn't consider that the so-called immune members have actually been given infractions.

Majic 09-10-2007 08:40 PM

Hobo stands as a man among men, one of the greatest members this board has ever seen. He has dutifully served amongst our staff in the past, and shall hopefully continue his pilgrimage to bring wisdom and enlightenment to the rest of us for years to come. Viva la Hobo!
