Dip! The tongue idea is wonderfull! I still wont tell why... cuzzuh when I look at the stuff I'm working on now, I want to roll over the floor.
And the new wings look fairly good. I'd suggest that you'd stick with these.;)

Yes, yes...I DO want to french her! :lick:

AngryVyykerDude 09-03-2005 07:49 AM

Re-did the wings on this one.

Munch's uncle (who has yet to be named). The trio meet up with him in Afterworld. He died from having his lungs removed.

He is very critical of Munch, and doesn't think that Munch saving his race is anything special. As he puts it, his nephew snagging a can of eggs was a cake-hop compaired to what he had to go though in "the old days."
(Walk a mile to school, waist deep in snow... that sort of thing.)

Voiced by Jack Nicholson.

Actra is looking good but her nails are a bit... well not right
I mean mine aren't like that

Dipstikk 09-08-2005 01:24 AM

:

I mean mine aren't like that

Well, of course not, Actra's not a human. Noctero use their claws mainly to hunt. They catch prey while in the air by swooping down and hooking it with their curved claws (it also helps that their hands are so big, better chance of catching it). The claws on the wings are used for clinging to cliffsides, and their foot claws have almost the same use as the hand claws: they hold the prey in their feet while rending the prey with their hand claws and eating it.

Since humans don't need to do either of these things, our fingernails are flat, fragile, and almost useless.

Xavier 09-08-2005 01:37 AM

I guess you'r right on this...
aren't they too curved?

okay I'll stop annoying you on this

Dipstikk 09-08-2005 02:03 AM

Nope. Look at a hawk's talons, or a dromaeosaur's. She uses it to hook prey.

Oh, and don't worry about bothering me, I love to answer questions.

Teal 09-08-2005 05:47 AM

Although I can't deny they're good drawings, the wings are still bothering me. After all, there's a reason wings are typically plain and flat and boring. ;) Hand and feet claws fine - the "wing claws" look like they'd just get in the way. Although I may be forced to break out the sketchbook to explain what I mean, rather than sit here nitpicking in words. :P

Dipstikk 09-08-2005 07:05 AM

Listen, you've had a problem with almost every design I've come up with, and every single time you said, "That wouldn't work," or, "I still don't like it," I've tried to change it, and you still have a problem with it.

Guess what: She's not your character. If you want a flying creature that would really work that much, come up with one yourself.

I am NOT CHANGING THEM AGAIN.

I'll just have to deal with the fact that, in reality, she couldn't really fly.

I'm sorry, but I mean, it happens every single time, Teal. And while I do appriceate the critiques, I'm just tired of whipping out the pen and paper so often.

Teal 09-08-2005 10:22 AM

I wasn't TRYING to get you to change them, Matt, just making an observation. Since you seemed dead-set on making something that looked... can't think what word I'm after. Not "real", just... aerodynamic, I suppose? Last time you spoke about her, that's all. (That's probably still not the word, but never mind.) I guess I've just swapped notes with OMG LIEK MUST-HAVE-ABSOLUTE-REAL-AS-POSSIBLE people for too long, where every muscle must be plotted to absolute real-world accuracy from real muscle charts and so on. That's the problem with intarweb, can't get the subtleties of body language/inflection across. I apologise if I've bruised feelings.

Dipstikk 09-08-2005 11:25 AM

No, I'm sorry for overreacting. But really, I'd like this to be the final design.

Teal 09-08-2005 11:33 AM

You're all right, you're allowed to "overreact" at us habitual nitpickers. ;) I thought you were being rather restrained, actually...

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 09-08-2005 11:43 AM

I think Actra and the Noctero (would there be a plural for that or not?) are absolutely spiffing! :D For one thing it's about time there was a truely Odd heroine out there (even if it is just for fan work) so a job brilliantly done Dipstikk. And don't worry about them not being perfectly accurate, when was anything in Oddworld accurate to life (I doubt a Scrab could exist without loads of problems...). So love the art and keep at it. :D

Ariona 09-09-2005 12:55 PM

O_O .... O_o You have a lot of talent...fantastic pictures...I wish I could drawing like you...oh my god... :D

Dark Elite_H2 09-09-2005 01:03 PM

Yeah...you do, Dipstikk...O.O I can say, yer better with ink than me.
(Love yer banner Ariona) Nice drawin's, Dipstikk. Let's see s'more

Coolmanbizkit 09-09-2005 01:34 PM

These are really really great Dipp, Keep up the great work :D

Dipstikk 09-12-2005 07:54 PM

Thanks, everyone.

Suppose Actra's Oddysee was made into a video game. These are a few hypothetical base attacks (ones she would have from the very beginning).

Advanced techniques, attack upgrades, Alf's attacks, and Munch's attacks coming soon.

Done in Adobe Illustrator.

I hope you don't mind if I use a similar design in one of my atomless drawings .

And great job on the moves for Actra! And yeah, you heard all that other stuff on AIM.

A boar-sized liquivore called a Strakk. It feeds in a similar fashion to an Assassan bug, by hooking and injecting a fast-acting digestive enzyme into it's prey (usu. a carcass), who's internal structure liquifies. The Strakk then sucks up the juice with it's straw-like tongue.

The "eye" stalks are really overdeveloped balancing organs, much like our inner ears. It "sees" the world around it by producing an electromagnetic (electrostatic?) field around itself, strong enough to sense and comprehend shapes and objects that enter into the field almost as accurately as actual sight, but weak enough to keep living things in the field unharmed.

It is very much based on the creatures from Wayne Barlowe's Expedition.

I've already told Kimon about it, but didn't have a picture ready. Here you go, buddeh. Inked version coming very soon.

Edit: Inked version coming very now.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...es_smaller.jpg
Thanks for all the wonderful replies to the Strakk picture. Here's a picture of how I think Afterworld would look. It's based heavily on Barlowe's Inferno, but I should be able to personalize it as time goes on. I'll also try to give it a splash of color this weekend, but I am so tired right now...

Also, one side of that eye-cube dude is voiced bt Adam Carolla, and NOT JUST BECAUSE I SAW HIS NEW SHOW AND RECOGNISED HIM AS THE GUY WHO PLAYED SPANKY HAMM ON DRAWN TOGETHER!! That cube's name is the "Quadroptis," and is the gatekeeper of Afterworld. To get in (or past them), you have to do something for their personal benifit. This might also serve as a good puzzle element for the game that doesn't exist.

...Yet.

I love the surrealism you used in that poic, dippy. I'm afraid to say I always pictured an afterland as all of that cloudy bushwa. *sigh*

Anyway, great job! Drawn Together, I wish they would make a new season! That was the best animation on Comedy Central besides South Park!

Leto 09-17-2005 06:31 PM

I <3 the surrealism of the Underworld picashure. Weird mishapen trees are kewlness in my book.

And the lolerphant has a very different feel to your usual art direction, save the huge lizardy thing on your Photobucket account.

Noice!1.

Kimon 09-17-2005 07:04 PM

Ah, so THAT'S your Underworld. It looks awesome, much like your inspiration. I love the cube-eye. :D

Quad's sheet. I'll probably change his name.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 09-21-2005 12:19 PM

 Dunno why, but I found all of Quad's expressions hysterical... Yeh, I'm weird.... But loved the character study Dipstikk! :D

Alector 09-21-2005 12:57 PM

It looks quite surrealistic. Especially the rock with those eyes O_o
You are very good at drawing enviornments! Your sense of fantasy always impressed me.

I really like the detail you used in Quad. Especially the miffed expression.

Alf color guide. He is NOT JUST GREEN, at least not anymore. He had a nice mix of browns, greens and whites in MO, which I absolutely loved compared to his AE color scheme.
Typing of Alf, does anyone have any theories on how his fez stays on his head? I used to think he shaved his ponytail off or something and he was bald, but he might have a nub of ponytail under it.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...gs_Smaller.jpg
Actra's colors. I'm starting to dig the spots. Her fur is very, very short and smooth, almost has a silky feel to it. Noctero silk is extremely popular among the high-rollers of the Magog Cartel.

Other parts are used too... oops! Don't want to give too much away!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rt_reduced.jpg
Next up: Munch's color scheme.

LATAMARE MUNCH HAS THE MOST CONFUSING COLOR SCHEME OF ANYONE I'VE EVER DONE! Jesus H. Christ! His may take a while longer than the others.

Also coming soon: Male Noctero color scheme, the Gluks that own New Rupturefarms.

Leto 09-24-2005 12:22 AM

I personally think the Mudokons with the 'fez' have had their ponytail things cut off to a stump and they wrap something around it. OR - They wrapped that string thing around the base of their ponytail as to cut off blood circulation.

Munch is all like : "I'mma gonna kick yo' ass BITCH!". :D

Dipstikk 09-24-2005 12:47 AM

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...de_smaller.jpg

Here's Munch, all dolled up in color. I've been using the dodge and burn tools instead of making two extra layers to shade and highlight them. It's turning out a lot nicer than anything I've ever done before, if I do say so.

And you know I do.

used:) 09-24-2005 07:24 AM

Jeez, old Latamire has been having too many cheesy puffs lately! Great job though,. the expression on his face IS phenominal.

Amazing work with the colors, as always. And the Afterworld art is great. Your characters are interesting, too, I like the design of Quad and the Conversation Tree.

Ah yes, the Wisdom Cube, one of my favorite villians. Kudos to you for that! Now how about the Brood Witch...

Actra's dad. Usually a level-headed Noc, that is until a Slig shot his wife in the back.

The Marching Mudokon 10-04-2005 11:19 PM

I whistle in appreciation of your artwork, originality and oddness Mr. Dipstikk ;)

Dipstikk 10-05-2005 01:22 PM

Thanks, Million Mud March. :D

Here's something I whipped up in about a half-hour.
Next up: Noctero Culture.

Noctero biology

-All females are born with large, usable wings. Males are born with small wings, and as a result are unable to fly. Male Noctero will flap their wings vigeriously when annoyed.

-Noctero teeth are set as follows: Two "buck-teeth" in the front that have a prong on the inside of them; a set of large fangs on the top jaw, on either side of the buckteeth; and ten sharp, curved teeth (5 on each side, 20 in all) going all the way back to the end of the gums.

-Noctero teeth interlock when their mouths are closed. If a Noctero loses a tooth, it will usually grow back in the exact position of the fallen tooth to ensure that the jaw closes properly. In rare cases, the bucktooth could come back in slanted slightly.

-Noctero have two hornlike protrusions along their skull. These are not horns, but rattles that they shake when agitated. There is also something similar on the bottom of the ear, but this is immobile.

-Almost all Noctero are born with black hair and eyebrows. In previous years, Noctero who were born with a tint other than black were considered unholy and tossed off of cliffs. Nowadays, they have discontinued this barberic and supersticious ritual, but still reguard them as outcasts. Some Noctero, in recent years, have died their hair different colors in certain spots in order to rebel against this.

-Noctero females were usually born with svelt, thin bodies that allow for smooth flying. But in the years spent in captivity and due to the factory-supplied foods, the females have begun to grow out, so to speak. Actra's friend, Lyddea, would be a perfect example. Her current diet of New RuptureFarms products caused her breasts to grow out so much that it makes it almost impossible for her to fly until her wing muscles adjust to the weight (which could take anywhere between a few months to a few years). Actra herself has slightly larger hips than most females.

-The tail of a Noctero is stiff and halted with rods of bone running along the sides of the tail vertibrae. It is only able to be lifted and turned slightly at the base. This makes the tail into a good rudder during flight. Noctero keep their tail raised while walking.

-Noctero are purely carnivorous. They will eat anything that has a pulse, from taking down paramites to catching ratz and chippunks on the go. The diet at New RuptureFarms, however, is more fat than meat.

-Noctero walk on the tips of their toes, with their foot suspended off the ground. Noctero usually have a hunched posture to balance, but are very graceful movers (males moreso than females).

Dipstikk 10-05-2005 09:46 PM

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...et_smaller.jpg
A new image of Actra. I may spread the wings out somehow, they seem kind of short. (each wing is the length of her body)

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...et_Smaller.jpg
Actra's friend, Lyddea. She works at the ginder engine room (you know, meat grinders). Like in the bio, her... ahem... extremities are caused by a diet that consists of nothing but the products made at New Rupturefarms (that's all the Noctero are fed, besides the occasional rodent that makes it's home there. Most Nocs prefer to eat sparingly or starve, which is why a lot of the Noctero are either so thin or so meaty.).

The boobs look too high. Kimon thinks they're fine, but I'm gonna fix it in sketch 2. (I draw another, cleaner sketch over this one, it makes the inking easier.)
