If they are doing Stranger 2 for Xbox 1, we need not worry about the time bwteen MO and Wrath.
They had to come up with full concepts, models, an entire engine, AI, live ammo.. well.. every species and character. These are all already in place for a sequel. Look more to the difference between AO and AE ;) |
True enough, I just wonder, is this confirmed though?
:
|
Its probably a bit ambitious to say Christmas this year. I'm tipping May-July '06.
|
They WANT to make the game. They've had what they needed to start making it since OSW went gold--we've actually seen images they released that didn't make it into stranger: meaning those are ideas that they haven't gotten to use yet. All I'm saying is that they're in a situation very similair to where they were after AO. After beating Stranger I really want them to make the sequel, too. Come on, OWI!
|
:
|
That would be so awesome. Although I hope they make it a bounty game again. Even though I loved the ending and the steef parts, I liked the bounty missions a little bit more.
|
:
Oh, and I wasn't into Oddworld around the time of AO and AE. Did they have a close release date? |
I would love it if they could get another stranger game out before Xbox is dead, but it seems unlikely. They would need to create new textures, models, levels, sounds, music, FMV's, code, etc. Even with the current engine I doubt they could get all these working in such a limited amount of time.
|
It might be tough, but I think OI could do it. As I said Prince of Persia did, and although that game was worse than the first, it was also much different, and had a lot of new thing added including many FMVs, textures, music, sound, animations, and story.
Although this game wasn't as good as the first, it still shows how much can be done in a year. |
I really liked Stranger's Wrath but I'm also really anxious for the quintology to continue. I think if Oddworld could make a OSW sequel quickly they should but if it will take another 3 years I think they should go back to the quintology. Lorne Lanning said the technology wasn't good enough for the quintology but with Xbox 2 so close it could be the right timing for the third installment of the quintology.
|
I think Lorne wouldn't make a Quintology game as first game on the Xbox 2
rather a Stranger game, so he can edit the storyline and experiment without breaking his heart like he did with MO |
Lorne's actually said he doesn't want to do Quintology games on brand new engines, so its almost certain that he wouldn't continue it first thing on xbox 2.
I am anxious for the quintology to continue, as I'd like to spend a little more time with Munch (done right), I just think that Stranger is the hero of the hour, and I'm interested in what happens next for him as well. |
yep after the Stranger era I'd love to have MO the directors cut :p
or at least ME containing everything supposed to be in MO. |
Who knows how long we have to wait untill ME comes out, well I looking forward to see the next chapter of the quintology.
Yup, Munch's Exoddus being the next quintology game. |
Oddish, is that thumbnail an official ME poster? If so, sweetness.
Oh, and if there's a ME, it won't be the next quint. game. It'll be another charter of MO, won't it? Like AO and AE? Plus, i thought the next quin.t game was sposed to be Squeek's Oddysey. |
We're going to need a source on that Oddish. It looks like Munch in front of Ma'Spa.
:
|
No, it's not official, I made it. And it's ment to look like it's from ME. But it aint.
You might be right Kimon, it might not be the next quintology game, but It is the next chapter in the story. Unless they add another one in between. |
OWI could still do another Abe Game.. never forget that
|
Hey,it would be great if they actually did make OW Munch's Exoudes( How ever it's spelled).I think they should make tw OW games in one year eh?
|
A couple years back when watching X-factor, I was dissapointed that OWI was going with a western shooter, but look how great it turned out! I totally trust OWI with whatever descision they make for the next game.
-oddguy |
I'm not too anxious with a sequel as of now, since I haven't seen anything except screenshots from Stranger, and thats the way I'd like to keep it.
As much as I hate to say it, ME would be unlikely, since they just did Stranger, and they would sort of be doing previous games after recent games (I'm speaking ramblings). An Abe game would be even less likely. Although, if they make ME, I would piss myself every second of everyday at the thought of it. And it wouldn't have Abe (No offense, buddy, Munch needs some spotlight though to, ya'know?), it would just be Munch's quest to Ma'Spa! Me whizzing at the thought of it! *Looks at pants* Uh, anyone got spare pants? Pant, pants I need pants... :p |
Yeah, ME will be great idea.
|
I think you've nailed it, there: OWI should develop another Stranger game, or hell, even their Citizen Seige idea, when the next-next-gen consoles come out so they can grow familiar with the strengths, limitations and nuances of the new systems before they begin constructing one of Lorne's Quintology titles.
As a fan, this could kill me, there not being any Quintology for such a long time. But as a fan, I need to not only hope the Quintology can be the best it can, I need to respect Lorne's desires for it too. For clarification, the quote from Lorne saying he wanted to release a game a year is thus: :
|
That was what I was woundering, but AA said it wasn't book. I think it's the DVD.
|
The DVD is pretty exciting, but I don't think it's of the same kind of callibre as the book. I think Lorne may have been hoping to find some Hollywood connections for the movie in 2004, so he could announce it properly.
|
I wasn't really happy when I first heard that the next game was not going to be part of the Quintology, as after waiting for to get a next gen console to play MO, but many things promised did not make in the game(I still loved it anyway :) ), so I was hoping to be a ME game to fix this, then Stranger came, and now it seems they are going to work on another game not set in Oddworld, or a sequel to Stranger.
Are OWI planning to have a Quintology game only once per a gen of console, then its going take ages :( . I have been with Oddworld since Abes Oddysee, went through AE(best Oddworld game to date) and MO, with Stranger yet to come to Australia. I would like to see ME game if I were to vote. Lasty Oddworld games still are some of the best video games ever. :D |
I think the formula goes= Popular Game= Sequel. Sure, MO was popular, but not extremely popular. Where as AO, well, that goes without saying. And if people are saying that OWS is better than MO, yeah.
I like to use everything at my disposal. |
Regardless of the formula, I don't think OWI were going to make a sequel to MO right then no matter what. Lorne was heartbroken over the failure of the game to tell the full story, and felt like Abe and Munch were so involving (emotionally) that a break from such an important story would be good for him, the company, and via trickle-down effect, the gamers.
All I'm saying is that MO was popular, and if OWI is true to form, it will get a proper sequel (like all Quintology games) just not yet. |
My feeling is that ME will not be a sequel per se as it will probably be a totally new game (leading on plotwise, of course) with a new play dynamic. Thus they will probably not worry too much about the popularity of MO.
|
That would be cool if there was another stranger but i'm pretty sure it is Hand of Odd.
|
You can't be pretty sure of anything. We were 'pretty sure' that the next game after MO would be ME or HOO.
Until OWI say, we know nothing. Anything else is blind speculation. |
HOO is the 5th game, supposedly. Mmm.
And ME, I sure hope it doesn't have Abe, and that is how they could distinguish it as a 'new' game, you're such a pitiful character that you need stimulant to attack, and you don't have your brothers to help you. Much more of a stealthy game. (If it was Quest to Ma'Spa, no fuzzles I would think.) I should stop thinking so much about a game that has yet to exist.. |
Eeeeek, no! OHOO is not the fifth game. It irritates me to see this, but I can't even imagine how or why this misbelief arose. Hand of Odd has no designated number; it was merely the first planned game of the indefinitely postponed Habitales series.
I don't know about ME not having Abe or Fuzzles. The whole ethos (or one ethos, at least, because the original concept was so amazingly fantastic it was able to support many) of MO was that it involved teamwork: teamwork between Abe and Munch, primarily. Over the course of the story, the relationship between the two characters would grow from detest to dependence, and further. These two states were never seen, but the ordering of NPCs through GameSpeak is one of the few great features that survived in the gameplay, and that includes the ability to nurture the characters into something greater (though this part was reduced to mere upgrades). Removing these elements... I think that would detract from Lorne's vision. |
I'm betting that another Stranger game is coming up.
*WARNING! SLIGHT SPOILER!* The ending of Stranger's Wrath left room for a sequel, and I read that they've talked to EA Games about it. -Alien Guardian |
I wouldn't mind if Abe played only a miniature game in ME. Kind of like the mudokon priests who gave Abe ring powers in the first two games, only a bit more involved. You know, he'd be there to help Munch through some parts, but the focus would be more definitely set on Munch and his quest. That Abe hogged the limelight always kind of bothered me about MO. (On an only barely related note, I'm still hoping for some truly underwater levels in a Munch game.)
As for Habitales, I hope they can initiate the series. I always thought the daily life of inhabitants would be quite interesting and fun. The anthropological bent to the games is what really secured my fandom. If fandom is a word. |

|
Oh yeah. Sorry Max, just keep t'inking HOO is the fifth game. My mistake. Anyways, Abe may be featured in ME, but I too hope for only a minor appearence. Like the Shaman in MO.
