I honestly think it would be incredibly dumb to name oneself after one's made-up character.

Naming yourself after one of your characters would be as bad as people who change their names to star wars character names.

Males and females in the same family don't have different last names, dependent on their sex.
But yeah, it's weird when gender specific names are surnames.

It's nice to hear of so many Nathans! Do you ever fidn that there are millions of merchendise with other people names on but never a Nathan.

This Forum is a Nathan Festival! But in real life I know no-one called Nathan.

The protagonist in Enduring Love is called Joe {surname redacted}, and he is male.
Doesn't seem odd to me.

I think the main character of Pirates of the Caribbean is called Nathaniel {surname redacted}. Even though that's Nathaniel and not Nathan (It's close enough), I don't think it sounds odd.
