Abe is blue, because he is a chosen one, and when he was young, everybody laughed at him :)

Oddish 07-06-2004 07:28 AM

:

hmmm, I think it should be a good thing to forbid scanned images from the book on the forums, and if someone do post some he will automatically get a warning and his post deleted.

is someone with me?

Yeah, i know what you mean.

Good bye cool Banners and avater's and even site's.

Xavier 07-06-2004 08:01 AM

simply not scanned from the oddworld book...

scanned from magazines, promotial items or from other arts book is still right for me ;)

one of the many excuses (...sorry, reasons) that Alf has given. My point was simply that it is not important WHY Abe is blue. They changed his colour for practical reasons and then came up with the reason why later

I'm with you. It would encourage kids to buy the book, which is what we want. We want the book to sell so that Oddworld will be able to release more merchandise...yeah.

-oddguy ;)

Xavier 07-06-2004 11:45 PM

that's the spirit... :D
can't wait to have this book in my hands :p

NDW I think the reason why Abe is blue IS important, simply thay can't give us the 100% true and developped reason because perhaps it would ruin a lot af the quintology plot

Oddish 07-07-2004 07:42 AM

Mabey he's blue, and munch is purple, becuase they want to have rainbow characters.

Abe:Blue
Munch:Purple
(i dunno)
Squeek's:Pink
Nod:Red
****:Orange
****:Yellow

Get the pichure? it all blens in. (Or mabey we just don't know.... )

Xavier 07-07-2004 08:33 AM

I would hate to have rainbow heroes...
it like a cheap cartoon, hell no!

but the idea was intresting ;)

Oddish 07-07-2004 10:36 AM

 Yeah, who want's to see rainbow characters.

We all by now, each hero will be slitley diffret from there species Is Stranger even a Hero, he alway's reminds me of Snake Eater, same attuide, stly, and a your envroment, what you can do with it. I wish can get Metal Gear, is very interesting, but i have no PS2 :(

If the gameplay graphic's are almost just as good as the CG, then in one of the FMV'S you might see Starnger jumping off something, and during his fall you get a fade effect from CG to acual gameplay graphic's. That would be good for an action game.

And I would realy like Stranger to have some sort of Sniper rifle, and you aim a Orc, and shooting him in right butt. And other character's notice. I'm looking forward to the thing's on Weaponary. Or shoot an Orc's boat, and see him sink into the water. Or throw a (What's the name) grenade thingy, and see the reactions of the surronding's to cuase some sort of mayham. Some nice puzzle bit's to dispose yer enemy.

Killa_47 07-07-2004 11:08 AM

i would like to see general ideas for the story lines behind the Oddworld games.

this is a bit off topic but you are so right! I loved the way the transitions were made in the Abe games. It made it feel so much more natural that you went from the 3d FMVs to the 2d gameplay smoothly.

Wil 07-10-2004 04:31 AM

I'm with Xav on giving warnings to people who post images from the book. Sadly, there will probably be so many things to discuss on the artwork in the book, the members that don't get the book will inevitably feel left out. Just something to bear in mind.

Off-Topic, but continuing a discussion, I think Abe being blue is an important aspect of his character, like his stitched lips.

Xavier 07-10-2004 07:02 AM

the art of the book should be discussed in the spoiler section only...
or something like that.

oddguy 07-10-2004 10:12 AM

Great idea, Xav. Works for me.

-oddguy

Cloverfield 07-11-2004 02:41 AM

That is a wonderful idea Xav. We will definately include that in the rules once the book is released. It's only fair to OWI, and I think it shows our dedication as fans that we will be helping them by enforcing this rule.

Agree that book stuff should be posted in the spoiler section as well, as I'm sure the book will contain spoilers as such. And maybe to get around the fact that some members will feel left out if they don't have the book, an option could be that the member discussing the image has to provide an in detail description about it.

Abe Babe...

Most likely a little later.

Xavier 07-11-2004 10:39 AM

the pre-orders will be around august/september.

I'm realy glad you guys agree with me, about forbidding the book content to be given for free on the internet.

Alcar 07-16-2004 05:29 AM

I am a little concerned with the issue of money pertaining to the Limited Edition of the book. Both Expose books, of Limited Edition were sold at $199 AUD. Now, that amount of money for a book is quite a lot. Will the Oddworld book cost the same amount?

Alcar...

Xavier 07-16-2004 05:37 AM

probably, yeah...
you don't have to buy the limited edition, it's kind of expencive items for fanatics

oh wait, we ARE fanatics...
*starts collecting money

Slogger Shorn 07-17-2004 08:10 PM

hmmm more pics of the creatures we know of, maybe a khanzumer pic? more info on the sea rex, KINTO!, umm and all the other creatures we have pics of but hardly any info? and maybe some pics of the workers who make oddworld odd!

I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I knew that I didn't get the BEST version of TAoO. I hope it's a reasonable price, but if it isn't...I'll do my best to obtain it.

*robs bank*

-oddguy

Alcar 07-17-2004 11:16 PM

Yeah, that's the point. I wouldn't buy any other edition except for the Limited Edition. I've already set it up for my birthday present, but Mum isn't too happy about spending such a lot on more Oddworld stuff. Yeah, she doesn't like my fixation on Oddworld :p I'll have to protest a lot to get it. But it'll be worth it.

I really hope they have a page or two from Lorne and Sherry at the beginning. Like a foreword. Perhaps with a signature from each? Written in gold text? That'd be surperb.

Alcar...

Sekto Springs 07-18-2004 09:06 AM

Stop it! You're making me drool. I hope that if we organise another Oddtour we could visit with LL and have him autograph all our books!

That would be spectacular!

Oddish 07-18-2004 09:21 AM

I think the book will cost as much as Expoise is, and the limited Edition is expensive, i might only be able to buy the original book.

steel scrab 08-04-2004 06:01 AM

do u think the limited edition and normal edition are coming out at the same time? i hope it comes out in nov as i got 2 get doom3 and fable in september!!

Oddish 08-04-2004 06:10 AM

I believe they'll come at the same time, why not? And i think they come earlier than that, September, but i hope late August.

I wounder if were gonna see modeling on how they did everthing in 3D,and what program they used. I'm "studeing" 3D work,by looking and reading.

Nate 08-04-2004 01:51 PM

See the ballistic publishing site: http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/oddworld/

right down the bottom it says that the special edition will be available at the release date. Will the only difference be the leather cover, you think?

oddguy 08-04-2004 05:35 PM

Hey, I got an e-mail from Mark Snoswell, CEO of Ballistic Media. I had asked him when Oddworld-Web could start promoting the book. I got this response...

:

Hi,
Promotions wont start in earnest until after SIGGRAPH. For now you can direct people to the announcement page and encourage them to join the email list for news on the book. www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/oddworld

We are also going to be at SIGGRAPH in strength -- so you could encourage people to come to SIGGRAPH and see all the other great titles we have out -- check out www.BallisticPublishing.com

I can let you know that we are targeting a November release at this stage.

Cheers

mark
Thought you guys would find it interesting. If it comes out in November, it'll make a great Christams gift! ;)

Sekto Springs 08-04-2004 07:43 PM

Congratu-freakin-lations, oddguy. Now, if only we new more about the limited edition leather ones.

I'm going to buy the limited edition anyway

Tim the book will be available online, and I think they will make it worldwide available

Oddish 08-06-2004 11:50 AM

Cheers AA. Just like EXPOSIE.

I'm geting the hard version, i think it's better. :)

Hmmm, if I have enough moolah, I think I'll get both limited edition and hardcover.

Hardcover I can flip through, while I put leather one on display...

Wil 08-06-2004 12:00 PM

There is of course, another difference between the limited edition ones and the other types, and that's that it's limited edition, which means they're much more valuable, much rarer and are usually numbered by hand. They're usually often signed by someone relevent, though not always.

Xavier 08-06-2004 12:05 PM

hope you are right Max and that it will be signed by Lorne and Sherry... :D
anyway if I buy 2 versions it would be the limited edition and the soft cover...

like oddguy, to flip over
