'but in that scenario, so many people would imagine they won. Pah.'

What scenario? If they failed they'd imagine they'd won? What?

Xavier 07-14-2004 11:23 AM

hmmm, Max, do you suggest meeches could look different then the only sketch we have now?
could be intresting to see what they realy look like then, perhaps in the book?

In the scenario that the 'heroes' wiped out the 'baddies'.

meeches look a lot like scrabs to me, actually...they make me feel like scrabs and paramites COULD be connected, as in...there originally was ONE being with like 4 jaws, and scrab like legs, and then some of em lost the front legs (meeches) another one lost the hind legs and grew more jaws (paramite) and then another one lost a few jaws (scrabs)

maybe they all come from some sort of real-life Shrykull...who knows? or heck maybe everything in oddworld comes from shrykull o.o

sligster 08-09-2004 06:52 PM

there could be one lone Meech belonging to an uber-rich Gluk.... and noone else knows, because they would try to steal it. Abe somehow finds out, and attempts to rescue it... a bunch of stuff happens, and in the end, the Meech is somehow killed... it would add drama. Abe realizes that it would be better off if there are no Meeches, than one sad lonely one.

Cyber-Slig 08-10-2004 05:48 AM

Muds wouldnt want all the industrialists to die.its thier job to keep oddworld balanced.that includes sligs and the lot.Yes they kill a few but so what? Not gonna end the species. And seeing as sam is the only female mud at hte moment.Industrials die,Something would hapeen to shrink and then Sam is gonna die cos shrink was like family to her anyway.BTW why are we replying to an old post?

Paramite catcher 08-18-2004 12:02 PM

Meeches? I want them to stay dead, but maybe Abe could go back in time and see some, or maybe in a flashback like when he saw Paramites and Scrabs in the past in Abe's oddysee.

Nate 08-18-2004 01:25 PM

maybe a flashback, but I really doubt that they will have a time travel story. That would be worse than bringing back the meeches.

Cyber-Slig 08-19-2004 06:58 AM

Time travel?Time travel is gay.P'raps a dream of flashback in which you play the game buts its really bright , foggy and you can hear noises that are in a dream. But in order to do that the game would actually have to have somethin' to do with meeches.Whats the point in saying ''Hey lets put meeches in the game even though they really dont have anything to do with it..''

Wil 08-19-2004 10:39 AM

Hey, a level where you control a dream or flashback, that would be great, especially if it was all cloudy and difficult to discern. There wouldn't necessarily have to be a reason for the Meeches, just a reason for the flashback to the time when there were Meeches about, perhaps some dramatic incident between Mudokons and Glukkons at the time.

Volsung 08-19-2004 12:01 PM

If they want to include Meeches, why not do it the same way they did Stranger? They wanted to make a game with the Oddworld Universe that the quintology's ideology would have made impossible, so they just created a set-up and went with it. If they want Meeches, there's no reason they couldn't have an equally good set-up in the past, regardless of whether Mudokons or Glukkons were involved. I say, if Meeches must be had, I don't want it to have anything to do with the quintology. A flashback might be cool to play, but it seems far-fetched to play a historical sequence from the present perspective. But that might simply be me.

Time travel is gay
Be quiet. I was saying it would be better then bringing them back in the game. I don't want Abe to go back in time. But I still dont see what be so 'gay' about it.

Cyber-Slig 08-20-2004 11:18 AM

Because oddworld is focused on old rusty technology and a mix of native villages.I dont think vykkers would have time travel technology. If they did they could go back all the way back in time to rupture farms and slaughter abe....but in the flashback you could see how the glukkons turned not by a story but with youre eyes.Like they saw the moon and the glukkons got mad cos of it.They went nutso but couldnt do much to the muds except slap em with big massive hands. They could have then run to the woods and called on the sligs.Could be cos they are cousins of a sort (no arms = gluks = no legs = sligs even though gluks have legs and arms the legs are disable and dont count as a part of the body really)

Wil 08-20-2004 01:50 PM

I think the best argument against time travel (along with going to Abe's Moon and laser weapons) is that Oddworld is not sci-fi, it's fantasy i.e. it's firmly cemented in its own universe, whereas sci-fi tends to involve the future of humanity (a big exception there is obviously Star Wars, but that definitely uses sci-fi concepts. Oh, and lasers. ;)).

Cyber-Slig 08-20-2004 01:54 PM

I can compare it with FF .Final fantasy was medieval , modern day and future all mixed in one.Same goes for oddworld

WildScrab 08-25-2004 12:54 PM

I guess what your all saying is right but it's only because Repture Farms couldnt find anymore of these things.. doesnt mean there extinct? maybe they can't find any so they put a poster up saying they are? would you believe in your Poster in a work that want's to put you in a Fry up?

caracal 08-25-2004 02:23 PM

on the topic of meeches, you know what they remind me of? jackals in africa.

specially because of how they go in packs, and attack big creatures like elums...and that Lorne says they're vicious.

The jackals will simply come in a pack, and each grab/bite from any given part of a ñu (bull-like animal) mostly limbs and nose...until the ñu is to wore down to stay standing and gets knocked down, when they start eating it alive O_O

it looks like the meeches could do that with those multiple jaws and the thorn-like teeth

Wil 08-26-2004 03:15 AM

You make a good point WildScrab. Meeches may be said to be extinct, but that's all. We have no proof. Already it has been said a lost plateau was found which contained Meeches (which were soon scooped into a hunting preserve, obviously), and Buddy was adamant that his South Meech diet was the real deal (yes, that was parody of the South Beach diet, I know).

Caracal, I like your analysis. It certainly beats the old floating gasbag creatures idea. No idea where that came from. If you're right, then that turns Scrabs, Paramites and Meeches into creatures like lions, hyenas and jackals respectively. Which is very interesting, as it is said by Lorne that the Quintology starts in the diamond mines of Africa, while Mudokon tribes are described as being similar to the native tribes of Africa before enslavement began (though Mudokon culture draws as much off Native Americans). The real question is what did all these creatures eat? The only large land creatures we know of are Elums and Meetles.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 07:08 AM

Noone would believe glukkon posters dude.If they never saw a scrab for 10 weeks they would probably assume it extinct and move on without caring.

Wil 08-26-2004 08:36 AM

:

Noone would believe glukkon posters dude.

I beg to differ, Glukkon propaganda blatently works, as the Magog Cartel is (or was) a thriving corporate giant.

And I think it's worthwhile pointing out that the Glukkon poster itself does not say that Meeches are extinct - it's Mudokon or Slig graffiti that tells us that.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 08:38 AM

Well okay industrialists believe anything really. But if they had some common sense like the muds they would probably think ''what a load of garbage''

Volsung 08-26-2004 08:49 AM

The muds are just as gullible as the rest, as seen by Abe's originally comment on his "good job" its not until he's actually acquired freedom that he realizes he was a slave. And we've seen a lot of Muds act just as stupid as any slig. There's a shift in their conciousness after Abe escapes, as they all seem to realize that they probably would be better off somewhere else. But we don't really see that until MO, when they've been given prisoner type uniforms and recognize Abe. Ironically, it was probably the propaganda posters of Abe's terrorism that helped the Mudokons understand their position. Its a good thing we don't blindly follow whoever tells us someone's a threat...right?

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 08:54 AM

Scrubs could be classed as an altogether different type of mudokon. They are born into the labour but not as children. As children they will wander about and get disciplined allot with painful ways but the ways they watch sligs and the depressions makes them gray and probably goofy vandals. When they become native muds get happy and green. And a bit wiser too.Although Abe can never truly be happy so he remains a cold depressing blue.I think muds are a sort of chameleon/human thing.A native mud of any sort would not listen to a glukkon's lies

Wil 08-26-2004 09:17 AM

In terms of Mudokon status, Scrubs are certainly lower the natives, liberated Mudokons and consumers (incidentally, Glukkon propaganda says that the reverse is true, claiming native savages have no jobs), but they're Mudokons nonetheless. Obviously they're going to be alien to a native life, at first, and are certainly adapting more to the lazy, fun-loving ways of life more than the traditional spirtualistic religion. However, their knowledge of Industrial life will come in as a huge advantage to the Free Mud Party's cause. But I don't think I quite get your precise point, CS.

Cyber-Slig 08-26-2004 10:24 AM

Basically when they are first born they won't be put into labour.Due to the fact they would have small weed yarms that cannot do anything really. As kids they will watch sligs thinking they are cool etc. Possibly heroes to them. When they grow up they will learn sligs aren't so cool when the sligs come and beat them up.But as kids they will watch the sligs lazy ways and learn his type of lifestyle. If they watch a slig beating people up all the time he will probably grow up to be a red mud but gets depressed and becomes a lowly scrub. But when they watched sligs they pick up a slig-like personality and act really goofy and lazy.Natives are the opposite and try to make full concentration.Muds back in abe's time weren't gray cos they thought it was an honourable job.Eventually after abe strieks the industrialists get cruel.the muds get depressed and turn gray. This seperates natives from the scrubs. The industrialists could get a nice mud army if they trained them with weapons. They would'nt do that though because it would cause rivalry between sligs and muds and a war will start. But sligs make a mud get his personality. If a slig was ever to be as smart as a native mud then the muds would grow up to be like that.
