Gizmoid reports that it was OWI themselves who were responcible for the transfer of investment from Atari to Microsoft. But since that's the only place that reports it, I wouldn't take it credibly instantly.
It kind of makes more sense, as Micrsoft then didn't ditch OW only to show their interest again. But on the other, larger hand, it just makes things more bemusing, to me at least. |

OW4 being included on the PS2 makes me wonder even more. Maybe we were mostly wrong, and that contract was dependant on Microsoft being the publisher. But since Microsoft now owns half of OWI, you'd think they'd get in there and shout "Oi!", wouldn't you? All quite puzzling.
At least we have confirmation of the EA Games deal. That's one less thing to speculate about, even if we can still worry, if we don't like the company. EDIT: Thanks Xav. PS2 exclusivity. I only just woke up. |

I'm sure it would reach a lager public, and so better sold and so OWI makes more profit and the fan base will grow, it's just great! It think it's a very good thing, plus all the fans that only have a PS2 will come back. very good move! and I'm very glad it's still on Xbox, since I bought the Xbox just for Oddworld, I don't want to change console to follow my favourite world |
I'll just have to buy 2 versions now ... the Xbox one when it is released in the US and then the PS2 version a few months later when the Australian release occurs. ;)
I wonder if the Xbox version will have any extra features though. I know of a few games that are available on both Xbox and PS2, and the Xbox version has extra features that aren't on the PS2 version. It would be cool to have like an extra live ammo or something like that in the Xbox version, but it would be annoying if you didn't have both consoles. Abe Babe... |

Yeah most multi platform games tend to be intresting. Usually the PS2 version is not as good as the X-Box version but still up there. Like it doesn't have all the elements inwhich the X-Box version has.

In agreement with Xavier, it would attract new and previous fans [such as myself] who didnt get an X-Box. Its a good move for OWI. I hope that this Microsoft deal doesn't mess things up, but I don't believe it will. |

I'm not sure if the "PS2 programming sucks" statements made by OWI were Micro$oft propaganda forced through them, or if EA is making OWI program it on both platforms against OWI's will, but hopefully the real winners of this odd change are us, the game players.

Oddworld on PS2 is a good idea, yes. The realease date is going to be early 2005? My dream came true :s OWI did say on the X-factor the game might be realased Dececember 2004.( i'm starting to think is might come out in 2006 :( ) Great find and image! Thats Stranger from the christmas card. I don't he's under water, he would, well die. At first i thought there was a fist, but no a paper it was.

The X-Box is just the only console capable of bringing oddworld to life. Its not such a big box for nothing. Where PS2 wants to be trendy and have it small, they lose quality over it to. Which is a dumb as move! HAHA.
I think in the future, the PS serie's will sell less and less. If Sony keeps putting console design above game quality that is. |

No. There are two versions, the more commonly accepted version is that Oddworld Inhabitants are half owned by Microsoft. The article I just quoted from, seems to believe that Oddworld became fully independant, and then sought out another publisher.

It would be great if OWI did have their own independance. It'd allow them the control over the Oddworld IP we've all been saying they should have. And while Gamesbusiness.biz is highly respectable, I wasn't impressed on their reporting of Microsoft dropping OW4 from their publishing lineup, I recall. |
I think OWI said they were hoping fo a late 2004 release. It was on their list of resolutions for 2004 in the january update. But games are famous for being postponed and this seems to be a minor change compared to some of the other stories you hear.

As for the date that OWI are planning to release the game, I don't think it is really a big issue. If they were planning a December 2004 release, they were obviously hoping for it ro be finished for Christmas. It sounds just like the Xbox Launch deadline. Only this time, OWI have decided to delay the game, and finish it properly. As I've been saying for a long time, let Oddworld Inhabitants take their sweet time. In the end, it benefits both the fans and OWI. Again, I'll remind you that Munch's Oddysee took around three to four years.

Publishers generally like to have games released before Christmas, because that is the biggest selling time for games. Hopefully though if EA pushes OW for this release date, it won't be at the comprimise of the game like it was with MO and the Xbox launch. However I don't think it will be seeing the game is already so far in the development stage.
