I know what you mean, Shellman. The Oddfather with the cigar has FIVE fingers! Five fingers!? What's up with that!? That's far too human if you ask me (even though the rest of his body doesn't look in the least bit human).

It's no big deal, man. |
Sorry if I mislead you with my addiction to use exclamation points. But I'm just pointing out that is one of many things that are becoming more Earth-like in this game.
|
Earth-Like? If I saw something from Oddworld walking around on Earth, I'd be freaked out.
Anyway, even if some of the designs are a bit anthropomorphic, they have their own touch of Oddness that makes them great. And plus, we haven't even heard the voices and got a feel of their personalities. That's another big part of character that can make a huge difference. Remember Vykkers? -oddguy :fuzcool: |
Yeah, voices and personality are huge factors in characters. Could you have ever guessed that Abe's voice sounds like it does just by looking at him?

Marry me? |
 I don't know what to say! It's true, I've never felt this way about anyone before, but my personal convictions tell me it wouldn't work. :p

I kinda didn't like the Vykker's voices, when I first saw the pictures I thought they'd have creepy, almost wispered british accents, or sort of a calm Dracula like tone to their voice. Their actual voices kinda took the creepiness away for me, I couldn't help but think that Farzad had intended them to sound more like they looked as well. oh well.
|
I'm glad someone's got 4 fingers, instead of the usual 3/4.
|
I hope there isnt anymore one legged creatures....
|
With people talking about Vykkers voices, haven't we only heard like 3 or 5 of the Vykkers speak. The others might be completly different. Like with the Glukkons. Mullock spoke real gruff yet Aslik was really posh and lispy...
|
Every single Vykker in MO spoke with a high-pitched voice - that's 39, so it seems pretty standard. The exception, of course, is Headley, but his description on Oddworld.com says he puts on a false accent. I personally think their current voices fit their appearance and personality like toe socks. :)
And I've nothing against any character having five fingers, in terms of character design, that's pretty unheard of. Even the Simpsons have four fingers, I mean, pfft, come on. As for the top hats, I think it's pretty obvious they keep a chant suppresser up there. :p |
Perhaps the material is simply more thick and sturdy than one first assumes?
(That'll be the reason/excuse if no other true reason becomes known) |
We pay way too close attention to every little detail. I bet OWI hates that!:p
-oddguy:stare: |
I don't think they hate it...
they must be flatered |
I wonder what the Grub-hunter guys sound like, I get the impression that they have deep voices with bad grammar like Glukkons. I expect the Tophat guys to have shrill evil voices, but seeing the buck-toothed one makes me wonder. The Sallis' voices are probly like mudokons with their li'l innocent tones and squeaks. We all know what Stranger sounds like and we weren't surprised by it either, so I guess we can only guess and assume for now. The Clakkerz voices are a dissapointment with their western accents, but I s'pose it matches their character. Oddworld has always intrigued us with surprising voices and bet this game will be no exception. :fuzwink:
As for the hats, they may be some kind of carrying case. Like maybe he can take it off and pull something of his out of it sort of like...well...a purse. |
hmmm, big hats are just plenty funny and are the top of good estetic, maybe those guys just think they look great with huge hats on their heads.
maybe it could also a way to show a kind of status level. |
That's what I was thinking...somewhat of a status symbol.
|
Like gluks have bigger shoulder pads for higher status, these guys would have taller hats :D
|
Ahhh, it feels soo good to be back! (Forums wouldn't let me sign in for a month!) But It's great to see all this excellent new stuff rushing in. As for the Outlaw boss, well I think it looks excellent! I still have to catch up on reading all your comments but I'll add a more indepth analysis later. :)
|
Forum wouldn't let you in? That must've been torture to look at all this neato stuff and not be able to comment.

It twas, and for a whole month! But now its finally working again although I don't know what was wrong in the first place. Anyways, from what I've seen the game looks to be great. I keep picturing the begining intro as that Grub hunter being hired by thoughs natives bacause of a strange creature stealing from their village at night. Then when the Grub hunter enters the woods he sees Stranger just sitting there on the tree branches. Realizing his prey is near the Grub hunter charges and swings his gun.
Stranger dodges then runs, after a quick little chase Stranger finally outsmarts the Grub hunter and catches him on the ground where (thouse two images of the Grub hunter surprised and of Stranger grinning.). Just had to get that idea off my chest or I'd explode. Tell me what ya's think. ;) |
Well, if you saw the X-factor special you'll see that the part where he swings his gun is much farther into the chase.
Here's what happened; Grubby chases him down a long log, Stranger leaps to the tall branch (where we see him sitting) Grub swings his gun, misses, shoots, but Stranger dodges the fire by swinging on a branch, he then leaps over to another large branch and jumps down into a village...that's all we saw. |
I imagined it more how Oddsville thought of it. But in my head, it was sunrise/sunset, and the native guys were going about their buisness, opening/closing up their shops or houses and getting ready for the rest of the day/the next day. Then this bounty hunter type guy (the grub hunter) charges through the village, startling them. He continues on, into the forest, where he catches up with Stranger and he chases him around. Finally, Stanger outsmarts him, and that is where we see the Steef grinning and the grub hunter lying on the ground.
I missed the Xfactor thing, so I don't know what was shown or what was learned from it. How do the scuba toads fit into all of this? Or do we even know? |
Hey, what do you think wrestling-mask-guy is holding in his hand? It could be a big-arse cigar or maybe a wierd-shaped weapon or possibly a cigar that is also a weapon (sorry, been watching too many Bond movies)
You know the one thing that always impresses me with Oddworld characters is the way that each character's mouth looks so incredibly different. I mean look at the hunter guys or the Vykker's lower jaws. OK, I know I notice wierd things but that's just the way my mind works PS where do all these new names like Grub Hunter or Oddfather come from? I must have missed something |
...
I'm pretty sure it's just a cigar. Probably the same brand the Glukkons smoke.(taste terrible.....)
|
GASP! It's the little rascals!!
|
What I think is happening in this is that the Scuba toads are going to war with the Salimanders. What we are seeing in the background would be the quintology takeing place as sort of a not so important aspect of this game. Like we don't see Abe and Munch but we see another part of the movement where Abe and Munch aren't around. Stranger and the hunters get caught up into this as these small native battles take place. And what do all those sligs and snoozers have to do with this? Thats an intresting thought. OWI mentioned how this game is real epic in scale. OW4 is concurrent with the quintology and Stranger and the Hunters are something completely different and not takeing part of it but sort of running along side of those events for a brief period and eventually going on to a different path. What I mean is that the path of his game intersects the path of the quintology for a brief moment and then goes.
The quintology as we know started this movement of natives against Industrials. I think thats what we are going to be seeing in the background of this game. |
...
I always thought we might have more of a western type story where the indistrial folks are taking hold of the land as the natives are being forced out.
