I agree with Death on many levels; we do have little control over our accounts even though i am happy with mine. I'm expressing this as a normal forum member-nothing more. We have all implemented our inputs and we should get a few more Senior Admins in here (i'm flattered you added my name to your list, Death) i think this will eventually turn into a debate with most members, and most likely evolve into an argument almost like a strike (against what i'm not sure) But before we pounce on each other like spring heeled coals i think we should pick out the bugs and settle this with the administrators, and we haven't yet.

As a member, you do not have the luxuries a Moderator or Administrator recieve. Some Moderators may not know, but they do indeed have extra abilities, especially in the field of Private Messaging.

Could you please list the things you would like to see available for normal members? Then I'd be able to give you a proper response.

Majic 01-24-2004 07:28 PM

We do? Sweet... Free booze, hot interns, paid vacation, and now extra pm abilities? This gig is better than I thought.

And I wouldn't call my name change a name change... more of 1/2 a name change. The deletion of 4 characters. w00t.

Okay. I think, members with...say, 2000+ posts should be able to unlock features with somewhat moderator proportions. The ability to have a custom title and change it at will...etc.

Well that presents a problem. Anyone can spam. Which is why we'd base it off how long a member has been registered, coupled with their activity status. So if you've been here for quite a while, and are fairly active, you could get these "promotions". Which actually would make wonderful work of vB3's Promotions System :D

Alcar...

Fair enough. I like this "promotion" idea. I hope to see it soon. The only reason I suggested the features unlocking after 2000 or 3000+ posts was because I thought it would be easier on you to have a automatic timeout system for the promotions to appear. But if you could do it manualy and not have a problem with it, that's cool with me.

Oh, I didn't explain it enough. The promotions system can be based on a number of things, including post count and registration date. So it can be done automatically still :)

Sekto Springs 01-25-2004 05:20 AM

This has been brought up before...I still like to know how I get my own title like the oddworld artist or OW animator or something under my name. Like Joshy is Lulu's Biyatch, could someone please RE-fill me in on how that works.

:

Could you please list the things you would like to see available for normal members? Then I'd be able to give you a proper response.
Well, I think the members who posted in this thread have made it very clear what they would like changed, but:

1. the ability to alter your username but only with in certain limit, like you can only have two characters more than your original username or it has to be an extension or cropped version and not completely altered.
Ex: for me it could be SS, Sligslinger

2. You already explained the way to become a Senior, but could you give me a little more info. That's all I ask :D

3. Oh, and if you ask me. We should get more smilies :p

Under the table exchanges. As in... Joshy gave Alcar a quick hand job, now Joshy gets a custom title.

Some of you may want to continue this discussion in hobo's "Reputation." He's kinda/sorta on the same lines as this thread.

Believe me it's alot worse if you want to win a mod position ;)

Majic 01-25-2004 06:41 AM

They SAY you get voted in... but you don't... Oh no. I sitll never recovered from initiation. That scar still throbs on my left buttocks cheek at night.

Death! Stop hacking Seargents account!:p

Yeah I know man, you should see Alcars' inbox. :p

Anyway, I think 2000 posts is a bit much. Not all of us will stay on that long. So I propose we all use custom titles as little personal "Identifiers". Just nicknames, titles, roles, or positions that we come to be associated with.

(And I don't mean sexual positions. Much to the dissapointment of some.) ;)

Newbies with around 10 to 40 posts wouldn't be able to access it, but after maybe 200 or so posts, the feature springs to life.

Perhaps one or two other little goodies, such as multicolor rank stars... That would work quite well I think...

On the face of things, we're not asking for much. Just one or two things that can identify ourselves a bit more.

Well, the first is easy. As I've already explained the many reasons why such would not be implemented. The second, regarding becoming a senior: you can't just 'become' a senior. At a certain time, or pre-set 'criteria' you become a senior. Which hasn't been discussed or made final. Thirdly, that one's easy :p

Hey, Josh gave me that hand job by free will.

Funny ;) If you could see my inbox you wouldn't be laughing.

Basing it on post count is foolish. Therefore it'd be based on how long a member has been registered.

I like that idea as well. You have to be a good, well behaved member to get a custom title, so only the good members get the ability to change their custom title. I like that idea a lot. I hope it is implemented.

-oddguy :fuzcool:

Yeah I like that idea also. Although, I am content with my current custom title, I just like it a lot.

oddguy 01-25-2004 06:42 PM

I'm still waiting for my custom title...if I even deserve one!:p

I don't have a problem with adding more smilies ... but if someone could volunteer to find them [I really aren't a smilie person, so maybe someone like Oddguy would be suited to this]. And the only stipulation I will have is that they remain within reasonable height. I find that smilies that are oversized are really ugly and mess up posts. But good sized funny ones are more than welcome.

Or at least, the more senior memebers, (IE me, ferill, Jacob, oddguy, ss, etc.).

Okay that is the worst list of 'senior members' I have ever seen. Most of them have only been here for half a year. I would only count Jacob on that list.

Abe Babe...

I recently made a whole bunch of smilies in preperation for my new forum. If you want them, you're more than welcome, but they are on another computer at the moment, so you'll just have to wait until I find an excuse to use a whole CDR.

(My other comp doesn't like floppy disks) :s

Oh and Alcar, who said I was laughing? I have a feeling your inbox explains my pissed off & depressed attitude about 95% of the time. ;) The other 5% is when find hand job invitations.

By the way, basing it on time spent at the forums is foolish too. Because then any old joe could sign up here, post once or twice, and go away again for however long, then come back and find he is able to use this feature. It would be better if you could use a combination of time spent at OWF, and number of posts. Like, I dunno, perhaps if you manage to post 500 posts within a space of, maybe 2 months, then the feature activates? This way it would only award productive members that have been here a while.

There'd most likely be a post and joined by requirements

That didn't make any sense. Sorry. Could you rephrase?

Hobo 01-26-2004 05:31 AM

For new benifits, if we were to implement them, the requirements would be both a post requirement, say 1,000 posts, and a join date, say one year ago.

So someone who joined yesterday(awful example) but has 1,000 posts wouldn't get it neither would someone who joined 2 years ago but only has one post. The only way to get them would be to have both of the requirements.

I had a hunch that this was what you were trying to say, but wasn't totally sure.

That really backs up what I was saying. That it would be better to have a productive member that had been here for a while, rather than an unproductive member that had been here for a while, or a productive member that had been here for a day.

No actually, I'm running low on CDRs because I keep using them for really small files all the time. And in case you've forgotten, I don't live in Russia anymore, I moved last year. :)

It's not that I really give a piss about some CDR, it's the fact that I'll probably be kicking myself later when I have no CDRs left and have a really big file that needs transferring. Also, I'm making a website and forum on my other computer, and I will put them on CDR when it is finished so it can be uploaded to a server - Since my forum will be using the smilies I am willing to offer this forum, I thought that I might as well wait till they're online so I can host them for you.

Alcar 02-14-2004 05:15 PM

As I mentioned earlier Death, it would be also based on the activity of the member. So no 'Joe Veteran' can just expect it after returning from a two year absence.
