Thanks for backing me up, Majic.
Sorry you feel that way Abe Babe.....I wasn't trying to make anyone feel less than equal. To tell you the truth I was just bored and thought this would be fun. May I just add that I've seen more useless threads than this that don't get attacked. I'm also polite when it comes to threads I don't like. I don't go around trying to be annoying and point out it's pointlessness. I hardly ever start a thread, and when I do people get all high and mighty on me. It's just a thread. If ya don't like it....don't post in it. Quite simple. -oddguy:fuzcool: |

I raised the issue of popularity contests being unethical because I thought it needed to be considered. And Oddguy you can't dictate whether or not people post in a thread.
We don't need these stupid popularity contests. They only serve to prove that you have more of a life on the board than you do off it. I'd rather be unpopular on a forum and have a real life than be popular on a forum and end up having to stay in all the time just to hold on to my position as a moderator and contributor. I have no disagreements whatsoever with giving some of our more genourous posters a bit of recognition, but we all know who they are. EDIT: In response to Joshy's post: While we aren't equal in the sense that we all have different appearance and skills, we are all equal in the things that we deserve. If someone is nasty, they deserve punishment, if someone is good, they deserve praise - no matter who they are. You cannot measure goodness, and it is wrong to prioritise those who are most good over those who are least good. We should come together and persuade good and bad people to do more good, and reward their goodness equally. In an equal society like a small forum, arguments occur when people feel like they are being treated unfairly. Being treated as though you are less equal than someone else, even though you make a valid contribution, is a bit like being told that your efforts are wrong. |

Yes but my hate thread actually had a real purpose, and had positive affect on the forums. It allowed people to vent their anger.

But I can see where you are coming from... Firstly, how much time do you spend on the net? Secondly, how much time do you spend off the net and out with friends/socialising. We are talking per day here. Compare the amount of time you spend on the net with the amount of time you spend in real life "living" as it were. If you spend more time on the net than you do off it, then you don't get out enough. |
Over the past few months, I've been slipping from the internet. Things that used to provide great enjoyment, no longer provide that enjoyment. I find myself confided to very few sites, or forums.
Because of this, I have had to find other avenues of enjoyment. One being a more active outside, social life. What I now try to do is, I'll go out with friends - and when I return home I feel refreshed. Personally, it is easier to post here when I haven't spent the entire day here waiting for someone to post. I'm happy with this approach, and it works for me. My interest in Oddworld, and these forums has been boosted greatly. Just by distracting myself :) (Which explains why I've posted in GD a lot recently) Alcar... |

Anyway, I'm not mad at you and I hope your not mad at me. We just have differing opinions I suppose. I still consider you one of my forum buddies! -oddguy |
Its sometimes hard to get here everyday to just check up on how things are going and checking things out over in FC, etc.
But somehow I manage to do that. While being involved with a bunch of stuff at school, keeping very high grades, hanging out wtih friends, going to see movies, doing homework. The way it works is strange but I seem to be able to devise simple schedules that I can still fulfill my duties in moderating here, while maintaining all the other stuff pretty well too. An example of one schedule of my week from todays events is this: Woke up at 6:00 A.M., Showered, dressed, ate, brushed teeth, etc. Went to early bird Jazz Band at 6:50 A.M. School Periods 1-4 / 7:40 to 3:15 Came home, had a couple friends over to hang out for a few hours. Went back to school at 6:15 P.M. to play with the Jazz Band at the Home Basketball game. While then juggling Show Choir Musical Combo practice after that. Until 8:00 P.M. 8:20-9:30 made some time to come here and check things out and respond to a few threads, while checking up on some other news on other sites. Now Im going to finish whats left of my Math homework that I didnt finish at the end of Class. So after that I will probably check one last time here, put a DVD on or read a book, then go to sleep to start a new day with a different schedule. Well sorry to bore you but there was one day of the week, some of the schdule that was not preset was just improvised with how things were shaping out with the day. |
Time awake – Time spent sleeping – Time Eating – Time at school* = Free time
Free time – Extracurricular activities* – Travel time – Job time* = Pleasure time Pleasure time = Social time*, Net’ time*, & Erroneous time *Denotes items that represent socialization Whoops, looks like the time spent on the internet is not only time spent socializing with others, but is done in the spare time of OTHER socializing activities. Thus, net' time does not determine life amount. Who would've thought. |
I'm going to start a thread entitles "Are you a shut in loner?" where we can discuss this more.

I agree with Death, this is a pointless topic, although perhaps it's good to get it out the way. Wolfpac's awards are good, because they are a more democratic representation of specific Forum activities, but this is just basically a popularity contest - at first I was flattered to be included on the list, and indeed I still am flattered to be considered a 'popular' member of OWF, but I like many members who couldn't be put on the list. Oddsville, for instance, doesn't seem to hang around all that often anymore, but when he's here he always has something useful to say. Hence, it's not really a fair thing to do.
Nevertheless, I voted for Xavier, because he always contributes constructively and goes out of his way to help others. I also disagree with Death, in that I find going on about how other people have no life, and trying to explain some kind of logic or science behind it incredibly dull, boring and pointless. Jacob used to do it, and I wasn't impressed by it at all. If you think a particular person should 'get out more', fair enough, but there's no need to spout about how having no life means you're obviously a social cripple. That's not exactly going to boost their self-confidence, and it's also incredibly harsh. At the end, we can't control what person we are, fundamentally speaking, so being nasty about things is absolutely uncalled for. I say this as a person who doesn't have the most aventurous time off the Forums or out of school, but I've found a balance between all things (except homework, which I'm lagging in) that suits me. Sometimes it's good to rant. Especially if you're meant to be doing an essay on Macbeth and the music programme you're using to compose coursework won't insert codas properly. |
Oh Max stop wasting my time. Read my post through again, and don't read it as if everything I say must then be criminalised by your own perceptions.
Where in this entire thread did I "go on about how other people have no life, and try to explain some kind of logic or science behind it"? I think you'll find I didn't. I merely suggested that having no real-world social life is a symptom of not getting out enough. Along side a large stack of drinks cans and crisps packets. I don't take the piss out of people who are shut in and lonely, I feel sorry for them. |
Oooops.

Ok, I'm not defending this thread anymore for the fact that it's not fun anymore, if it ever was. Close it down baby!:D

This thread isnt that bad... its just suppose to make some people feel special... well in the expense of others.... but what isn't. E.g (a good excuse for being bottom of the class mark), just say you got the lowest mark in the bottom of your class you can say "if i wasnt the person with the lowest mark somebody else will, i'm just sacrificing myself so others wont be hurt by being at the bottom"
