Well voteing for December will start right now. Ive changed my mind in order to vote for the month we need at least have a bare minimum of 4 contestants. You have till New Years Eve to PM me your vote I will tally the votes and we will have a winner.:D

So here are the contestants of December as follows.
Oddguy: Glukkon sketch and Mountain landscape painting.

Canned Gabbiar: Digital abstract paintings of Molluck, a Dragon and Santa Claus plus his sketch of Amadalla.

Death: sketch of Feeco train and 3D model of a star ship

Carbon: sketch of monster.

PM me your vote and I will tally them any new art will go for January.

Thankyou

OK then, agreed. Can I just make a point though, that voters should look at ALL the entries before voting, rather than voting unconditionally for someone they like. So the competition shouldn't be for popularity, it is completely down to the art work. Choose your favourite.

Are you getting in votes yet PA? Because if you aren't, I'd suggest that you ask Alcar very nicely to put an announcement up to advertise your competition...

paramiteabe 12-21-2003 04:13 PM

Fully noted Death but you are forgetting I am a Mod. Ill just go ahead and make the announcement myself and then delete it later on.:D Plus I just posted this reply like 2 min ago so Ill wait about a day and see what happens. If nothing happens by tomarrow then I will make the announcement. And Death is right vote on terms of what you think is peer art. This is not a popularity contest.

I don't mean to sound like a bad sport, but I'm not totally happy that you have conducted a fair competition PA.

If their were a total of 4 votes for CG, and a total of 9 entries, with just 4 competitors, that means that CG had more entries than everyone else, so even if everyone voted only once for every single piece of art, CG still would've won, because he had the most art. In other words, this has turned into a competition of quantity, and not nessacerily quality.

Also, you said that the other reason he won was because of his diverse range of styles. This concerns me that again the criteria for a winner wasn't well defined, or wasn't defined well enough for this to be a serious competition.

A common art competition would be based on the best art, and the artist of that piece of art that got the most votes won. This allowed the artist to enter several pieces, but would only win as a result of one piece of art, yet you seem to have judged it cumulatively, which is actually unfair, because there were varying amounts of work per artist.

So I demand to see the votes listed. I want to see that Canned Gabbiar actually won fairly. And if he didn't win fairly as no fault of his own, I demand a re-vote for decembers contest.

Again, I really don't mean to sound like a bad sport, but too many of us have worked far too had on our entries for this to end as a bit of a confusing anti-climax.

Most certainly Death I need to explan how this works. I dident get enough votes which made me make that decision. I wasn't certain eather thanks for addressing this.

Ok after recieveing only a few votes within a period of a week and a half there is going to be a revote. And to make things fair your vote needs to have a reason why you chose that paticular piece. I am giveing you guys until the end of Jan to make your revote. Because it wasn't fair and we need a fair contest in order to have a gallery. The rules I made were sketchy at best but now I made lagit rules that will make everything fair I hope. To read these rules go to "The Art Contest Revote" thread.
Thankyou

Ok friends, before this topic completely dies, Paramiteabe and I thought of some things we could do to wake your fantasy and imagination up. - at least we hope so-

Well. This should be actually an Oddworld art contest because this topic is here at the Fan Corner of Oddworld, isn't it?
If we had more artists like then, we would establish more criteria for these contests.

Paramiteabe and I thought of Oddworld creatures and favourite characters.
They should be hand drawn, hand coloured, shaded by hand and mistakes (if there are some) should also be seen.

Think about this and reply if you want.
You will get more informations if you are interested in it.

See you,

Alector

Yes Alector is helping me on this. We have decided that we will give you guys sort of requirements for your art. And who ever masters these requirements will win the contest. In the past two months things have been tough to get this contest moveing. Mainly I have been at work creating my own business and hopefully getting myself in an art show.

In the past three months I have been constructing a freelance Illustrating business of mine to get myself and my name out there and so far I am off to a great start. With that in mind I am going to recreate the art contest make it bran new. I am whiping the slate clean so we can do this again.

Its seems this first contest died and I will handle it as so. I am going to close this thread and send it to Necrum since it did die. But I am going to start a new contest with new rules to follow and it will be organised to fit everyones busy lifestyal. I have decided that instead of a monthly based winner. It will be a yearly based winner.

I chose this road because one if I spend one year on this it will result a sufficient amount of entrys and plus my business will be underway which the possibility of putting your work on display is open. I am simply offering the chance to actually get known. So thats the plan.

oddguy 03-04-2004 07:53 AM

Yearly contest? And it all has to be in pencil this year? How many entries can we enter into this contest?
