Maybe more of a tool.

Anyway, so there are no other cool weapons?

Xavier 12-24-2002 09:02 AM

well there are plenty new industrial weapons, but they can be used only by industrialists...

how about download the manual so you can learn a lot more about the new items of the game?

it's just here:

BigBro 12-24-2002 09:05 AM

Well, I meant more for Abe, but I guess if theres anything else that he can use, itll be in there. Thanks, man. :)

Xavier 12-24-2002 11:47 AM

hmmm but you don't have to be carefully to not be killed by them...

I would place them in the tool category

BigBro 12-26-2002 07:04 AM

Yeh, so would I. They can be used to explore certain areas, but they can also be used to get rid of Sligs and CS's. Theyre versatile, so theyre tools.

Cloverfield 12-27-2002 01:51 AM

Actually you do have to be careful not to get killed by Farts if the possessed fart is still too close to you. Because Abe can only possess a fart for a limited amount of time. When the counter appears and then goes to zero ... the fart will explode, killing anything in close proximity (including Abe if he is unlucky enough to be nearby at the time).

Abe Babe...

Xavier 12-27-2002 07:22 AM

Abe Babe, true but I never had any problems with the fart system.
by the way, you can decide if you fart or not, so you can choose if it's the right place, or not

BigBro 12-27-2002 10:06 PM

Yeah. it is true that you can get killed by a fart if its too close when it explodes, but I usually just explode them once Im done..

Although, the first time I played it I got killed by it because I didnt possess it in time..:fuzemb:

Canned Gabbiar 01-01-2003 12:39 AM

Well, my opinion is that Abe is against using any direct weapons. Bonepowder kegs and grenades would be indirect weapons... Just my opinion.

Xavier 01-01-2003 08:50 AM

I think that also make sense, so we have direct weapons, indirect weapons and tools

I mean if you don't posses them but, your right to

I alweys thought it would be cool if the Mudokins only used spears and sling shots as their form of defense. I kind of dident go well with spooce bows it look too highly advanced for a species like Mudokins. It should just be spears and sling shots like the ones we saw in AO. Could u imagine playing a game where you can wield a spear around. I think MO was going to be like that until the change but I am not sure. I also like the sling shot idea. Those sling shots were deadly when you got close enough to those natives in AO. We need them back again.

I vote for sling shots and spears for Abe and the Mudokins. And imagine sticking a slig on your spear like a shish kabob. That would be funny and sadistic. imagine a grave yard that the Mudokin movement built for all the industrial victoms. I could see slig and Glukkon heads pierced on spears sticking out of the ground. Disturbing isnt it? And imagine looking over the country side and seeing smoke from the grave yard where the slig carcuses are being burned kind of like the Orcs in Lord of the Rings the Two Towers.

Mudokins need their spears and sling shots. They could kill industrial creatures in the horrific ways and that was what AO was all about. A very dark tone to the story.

Mudokon's are nice people though, except Alf: "No, just shut up."

But totally agreed with the rest, even though I loved the SpooceBows, they were far to advanced. Even if they were like a normal bow and not so much a crossbow, and shot spooce arrows, not at a machinegun pace, then it would be more like Muds.

TheBigRaisin 01-03-2003 01:06 PM

I think that it goes to show that anyone, pushed too far will retaliate in any way they can to protect what is theirs.
I thought the upgrades from tomahawkers to bowmen was really good.
It gives the muds the edge they need, without destroying their basic beliefs.
It isnt really technology, anymore than the windmills, spoocelocks and such are.

All in all though, abe does wield a mighty hand when he wants......look at the devastating power of the shrykull (although this is a spiritual power)
I think they got the balance right with the weaponry.

Even if you don't possess them, but fart them out instead they will still explode after a while.

Spoocebows are magical weapons

Um, I don't really think that spoocebows are high tech weapons... It's like a magical(corny... I know, but I couldn't think of any other word) bow that shoots spooce energy or something. Like how abe possesses things. You know what I mean... I'm just saying it doesn't have to be a high tech weapon just because it fires on full auto and doesn't require loading.

Facsimile 01-04-2003 10:00 AM

Abe never uses a SpooceBow though.

TheBigRaisin 01-04-2003 12:30 PM

Personally, I would like to see more native vehicles in the next games.

I had some ideas about the kinds of vehicles Muds would use....i will scan them in and post them in the art section when I get chance.
basically they were......

mud'o'bike and side car.........pedal powered bike, archer in side car! (made from 100% natural products...bamboo, animal skins etc)

Charioteer.......obvious really......tomahawker in chariot pulled by scrab or paramite....i chose paramite, it looked better.

Windsurfers.....fast attack! tomahawkers....4 wheeled land surfers (like windsurf borads with wheels)

the next pic Im working on is a bloody big tank kind of thing.
6 or 7 Mud pedal power, with a BIG version of the spooce bow on top.

just my imagination running wild.....but I would like to see it!

Xavier 01-04-2003 02:38 PM

well why not... but I don't think muds have much vehicles technolgy... they often use elums and they don't need more

TheBigRaisin 01-04-2003 03:46 PM

Xav,

Not arguing just for the sake of it, but.....

look at things like the various amazon tribes.
Some of them have been content to stay as they are, right up til now, but you often see some of the tribes people wearing tshirts and watches etc.
Any connections with technology, whether good or bad is bound to have some effect on indigenous species.

I just think that the industrial technology will rub off on the muds, and they may take advantage of it by 'emulating' what they see around them.......

Sorry guys, I know this has kind of moved away from the original question, so I'll shut up now....thanks for indulging!

Xavier 01-04-2003 03:53 PM

intresting point of view... but I dunno since the nativess fight against the industrialist they maybe want not to use something industrial

The Shrykull 01-14-2003 04:30 PM

I shall bring this thread back to the original question!

I think that not having a weapon give Oddworld games a puzzle-like edge. You must evade enemies of every sort till the time is right to possess one and wipe the rest out! If Abe was armd with a weapon it wouldn't have that 'I musn't be seen' feel to it. Combine this with the one hit feature and you have a winning formula: DON'T GET CAUGHT!

TheKhanzumer 01-14-2003 04:49 PM

Abe and weapons.

I think that Abe is to clumsy for weapons. That is why he either gets his fellow mudokons to help, or posseses someone who can aim. So not only is Abe not good with weaponry, he also dosn't need it.

Shadestorm 01-15-2003 01:39 AM

Farts?

Were you guys just kiddin' about the whole possessing the farts thing? Or were they in the earlier games?

In MO you could fart, but I didn't think they stayed around long enough to be possessed...

And although possessing farts is odd, it is kinda sick odd, unlike the funny odd that Oddworld Inhabitants use in their games.

So are you guys pullin my leg about the fart thing or sumtin?

Cya later...

Alcar 01-15-2003 02:40 AM

Hi Shadestorm :)

Actually, in Abe's Exoddus you can possess farts, and they do come in handy for some puzzles.

It's not as un-like Oddworld as you think, it's quite funny. Hehe.

Alcar...

Xavier 01-15-2003 05:57 PM

well yeah the possesed fart is a realy nice gameplay experience... :D

and I think the fart is more in the Oddworld spirit than some other things in MO

BigBro 01-16-2003 12:58 AM

Yes, after Abe drinks a bottl of SoulStorm Brew, he obviously gets a huge pain in his gut and farts it out. It explodes after 5 seconds, or you can possess it and move it around for about a minute before it explodes, or de-possess it to explode it on unsuspecting victims. Quite nifty, actually.

lindsey 01-16-2003 02:22 AM

Abe could never use a wepon. If he did there would be no use in
chanting.Besides if you ever did play munches oddasee you would
know that he uses mud natives to beat up sligs

That wasn't obvious to me.
