This forum has about 1,000 members and so far this poll has only heard from about 20 of them, that is only 2% (I rounded to make the math easier). After everyone made such a big deal about what MO did wrong I had hoped more people would share their thoughts on what to do to make the next game better. So does anyone else want to have their ideas be heard?

This micht bring along a few interesting posebiletys. you have to wait til evening befour you can bring into action your plan of sneaking into a factory. Mean while you can do some other helpful things like rounding up some mudoken volenteers, helping out with rain making.

That could be annoying if the only time you can play is in the night because you would presumably have limited vision and such. If a time system was implemented, I would have to suggest one like Halo's if the level system of MO will remain in the game we are discussing. If we are talking about what was originally planned for MO is to be implemented in the game in question then a more sophistocated time system needs to be implemented. For example, there could be, say, six hours in a day and the moons and the Sun move relative to the planet, or rather the game map, then using lighting techniques, the map could be lit to appear as if it is a particular time of day (and possibly a different season, depending on how long the game is likely to last). Tasks could also only be allowed to be done at a particular time, which could be shown in the pause menu. The game time could pass one hour per hour but there will only be six hours in an Odd day so in half a day somebody could play through a whole day in Oddworld. There will also be an option to 'sleep' in certain places like huts and there will be an option of how long you wish to sleep, i.e. if you went to sleep in a hut and you wanted to invade an area controlled by industrialists, you could set your alarm for 10 minutes before the invasion so you can prepare. When you wake up, the game clock will have advanced as if you had sat patiently with the game for several hours, waiting for the right time.

While I realise that the concepts of day and night etc. could benefit the gameplay and overall gaming experience of Oddworld, I would rather not have such a system, basically because it would lead away from the story of the Oddworld Quintology. After all, these games are meant to tell a story, not make you wait six hours before you can try another attempt at breaking into a factory.

In Abe's Oddysee, how long did the story last? From one night to the next, one day. Abe's Exoddus took two days, one crossing the desert, the rest for gameplay. Munch's Oddysee took one day also, from the night Munch got caught by the Vykkers to dusk the next day. If suddenly the length of an adventure went from a fraction of week to potentially eternity...well, it just wouldn't seem right to me.

Otherwise, I see no reason why that should exclude day and night from the game completely. Certain levels could be set at specific times of the day, or the level could change slightly half-way through to create a small impression of time moving on, like in the Stockyard Escape from AO.

Then again, Oddworld Inhabitants have had the Habitales and Fearietales game ideas floating around their ideas board for some time. It's a real-time strategy of sorts, I'd love to see the six-hour day implemented.

1. You have failed to take into consideration the amount of non-posters and seldom-posters. You have also assumed that everyone is 'interested' in what was wrong with MO.
Lots of people just play games as a hobby. They'll highlight a few problems and that's it.
Some people enjoy games, more than the mainstream would like them to. They'll highlight problems with the game and suggest a means to solve the problem.

2. I'll probably air my opinions again in this topic before I'm done.

I want weather effects. Interactive enviroments and creatures that think. Better AI and Gamespeak and a vast enviroment that you can explore...an in-game map should be at hand to guide you into the correct direction incase you get lost etc. You should be able to see Industrial Hunters aswell, hunting the animals in their natural habitat. You should be able to eat and drink certain items and hunt (Especially Munch, since he is a Predatory animal.). Everything that was sposed to be in the last game should be in this, especially the ATM stuff and the 'ripple effect' stuff. Were if you steal a creatures cred card and use all its money, you may see it in the future...bankrupt. Were if you shoot a creature full of nicotine, you may see it in the future smoking through the addiction you caused. I want to see a working economy, dammit!! I want realism!! If you injure a creature i want to be able to visit it whilst in possession of another creature and see it injured in Hospital. I also want to be able un-possess enemies and have them still alive so they can face the consequences...*Sighs*...Ultra-Realism is happening in so many games...why not ME!?

oddguy 999 06-02-2002 04:20 AM

Maybe to help keep the structure of the stories time it could progress only between levels like most games... However you could deside which levels to do first... But I think if OWI dose put in a changing time system they would not limit it to working in one way... Everyone would like it to work the best for themselfs.

Mac the Janitor 06-02-2002 02:52 PM

Those are all very good ideas, Jacob. I like the credit card thing... it would be cool if every creature had a credit card, and then you would steal one to get a vendo drink!

brewmaster 06-17-2002 12:54 PM

BETTER BACKGROUNDS

what the games need is better backgrounds say like you can see trains and veichels moving in the background or people working really far off something to make the game more real!!!!!!:flames: :flames:

Chris the Slig 06-18-2002 04:54 PM

Re: BETTER BACKGROUNDS

Good idea brewmaster! the backgrounds are a bit boring and still.
Good idea!

sligster 06-19-2002 03:51 PM

We need more sligs!:crying:

Xavier 06-19-2002 04:04 PM

no, not more sligs...
there where enough in MO
more will be too much

It depends on how long ME will be.

Wil 06-19-2002 05:20 PM

Actually, unless the storyline has changed as much as MO's did, ME will let us see Sligs closer than we ever have done before.

Proof: Paul O'Conner's designer diaries. I forget which one, now, since you now have to be a paying member of Gamespot to see them. :fuzmad:

Oddsville 06-19-2002 05:25 PM

That sounds pretty cool, I hope ME comes out soon!

I read all of them but I don't remember what you are talking about... can you refrech my mind please?

dripik 09-01-2002 09:14 AM

I have voted for "bring back old creatures".

It vould be cool if those old facilities should work with a new glukkon that looks like his elder (like Dir. Phleg or something else). :D

And Elum should help at everywhere in the game.

Xavier 09-01-2002 09:16 AM

yes the elum back would be realy great!
please can we have it back:fuzsmile:

Oddsville 09-01-2002 12:02 PM

Well reading though this topic again I seem to really like Gluk Schmuks ideas. Basiclly I want all that was gonna be in the origanal game (but taken out) and prehaps with alittle revision? One other thing that I would love to have back is the music. Yes, I remember playing through AO and AE while having beutiful and emotional music in the background. When I played MO it seemed as if all the music was gone? Music is part of the feeling of the game and there wasn't really any of it in MO? I just hope we get some of our requests filled in ME, but I still exreemly apreciate the hard work that OWI puts into its game just for us!:fuzwink:

Xavier 09-01-2002 01:01 PM

I see what you mean, that mistical and industrial music and sounds, that was a realy great.
MO have often bad quotes for the sound

paramiteabe 09-02-2002 11:41 PM

I want to see the original things we already know plus a whole lot of new and cool things. Like weather changes, sound that makes you feel your really there, endless envirorments that you can walk into and keep going. Like for instance there is a mountain way out in the back ground you will then be abel to walk all the way out there. Thats what I want endless platform envirorments that are real looking and makes you feel you are in an actual film than a video game. That is my cup of tea! Of course I can come up with a thousand more things but my hand is tired of typing!:smokin:

Paramiteabe...:fuzblink:

General Drippik 09-03-2002 05:22 AM

bring back elum. yeh.

that was how MO was planned I hope the same for ME

Oddsville 09-03-2002 11:27 AM

Well I don't quite think that the enviorments where planned to keep going like in Final Fantasy online, but they where rather huge.

Xavier 09-03-2002 11:35 AM

I had understand MO will be a huge place in MO and we will get different missions concidered as lavels but everything in that big place.

Oddipus 09-03-2002 02:42 PM

I didn't vote because all the ideas are good ( exept less spooceshrub would be better then no spooceshrubs at all)

The games have been great this far, but it's OWI's goal to improve, so I 'll also try to help by adding my wishlist:
  • extended gamespeak
  • old creatures
  • MULTIPLAYER
  • more difficult (MO was far too easy)
  • SECRETS (like in AO, not like AE were the bottles told you were to go)
  • Posession of a funny thing (fart for instance)

Any OWI idea is a good one, so actualy I don't care too much
Voila

Xavier 09-03-2002 03:54 PM

multiplayer? good idea but how?

Oddipus 09-04-2002 05:17 AM

there was a topic before where we discussed multiplayer possibilities. One thing for sure: no split screen.

(LIVE, system link,...)

example of multiplayer on only 1 XBOX:
In MO, two players: one controls Munch, the other controls Abe.
When you're close enough to each other, you can both move in the same screen.
If you rather control the other guy, swap your controller with your neigbour (or selecting from an easy to access selection screen).
The camera should follow the player that hits the black button. So when you are to far away from each other, just hit the black button and you can play. The gameplay should provide enough puzzles that involve all characters, so you can play together us much as possible.

Xavier 09-04-2002 02:28 PM

hmmm, maybe but I don't realsy see how they would make a game with that.

plus I meaned, not how to play, but what kind of game they will do

ethan 09-04-2002 04:45 PM

i voted for FART POSSESION because if you want to kill someone from a sertain disstans and go for a bad quarma ranking.
IT IS JUST A FART AWAY!!!:D

Xavier 09-04-2002 05:04 PM

and go for a bad quarma ranking.
what do you mean?
