I think perhaps you didn't understand my rant.

Abe when he flees gets assigned the job of saving his folk and smiting the industrialists. At that point, he's not a slave anymore. But he still doesn't have a brain.
If he had one, he might think about whether destruction of the industry on Oddworld is such a 100%ly good idea.
