Why are you guys getting so offeneded about what i'm saying? This topic is about sexism, so there was bound to be a bit of a conflict, and no i have not been smoking pot i don't smoke, and i have'nt had any whiskey, and i will not be apologizing in the morning. I'm not saying that women are bad at everything only Wars and bands. Even if kittie did have penises they would still suck does'nt matter what type of sexual organ is in there pants its the way the intruments are played. Air Cadets eh? I am the Air Force and there are female officers (highest I have personally seen is Major, but I am sure there are women of higher rank then that). On the enlisted side I have seen female Chief Master sergeants (the highest rank you can go other then Chief Master Sergeant of the AF). So perhaps your 'Air Cadets' is a bit sexist. I know the Air Force isn't. I can't speak for the other services though.
As for the being captured bit...maybe women just make doublely sure they don't get caught. *grin* I know I would.

Well, I think that most that has been said here summarizes what I would say(save for Surfacing), if they hadn't replied... Especially Drag, because she has a first hand look in the military. I mean, how can you say women aren't out fighting in wars? Of course they are! You have very 1800's like thinking, there...
About women not being good musically, that is outrageous too... I mean, we can't really take that opinion. After all, you like some guys who wear creepy masks, and then go out and scream as loud as they possibly can into microphones. How about P.J Harvey? Bjork? Portishead? (Ok, I haven't really heard much of theirs, but I like what I have heard...) Smashing Pumpkins have a woman on bass, and some vocals... Many others... I just don't see why you find women to be so weak.

All of the classic and favorite bands for me are all or almost all guys. If a chick could play the bass like Les I would be impressed, but then again that wouldn't make her as good as claypool. I like a guy vocalist in a band way more than a girl lead vocalist, all right. Wow a few good bands, Dan, but kitty is no Slayer, all right. They aren't pantera or iced earth or morbid angel. good granted, but not epic. also, you would be a fool to deny that the miltary is built almost exclusivly on the oppressed backs of men alright. Women will get into college at a rate of almost 10 for every six by 2007. They almost always get payment and custody of children and all major assets after a divorce. I should know because my mother and father are divorced and are not friendly at all. They hate each other with an undying furvor. Guys are usually classified as learning disabled and disturbed. It is damn hard to be a guy in this world. Girls make way more moey, outway a guy in monetary assets by 141% and have hundreds of organizations looking out soley for them. Once aain guys are on the short end of the stick. So, Surfacing is right about the bands and the military and I am his men's lib supporting shill.

Finally somebody thinking clearly!, It's true Military and bands are a man job, sure women can join in but they will never be as good.

For me anyways, this topic was meant to be as fluffy as cotton candy, and not a battle of the sexes. Anywho, if you are to tag me as a hypocritical misogynist, I would like to say this. I wasn't serious about the title! It was an attention grabber, no more no less. Well, i kind of intended it as a quasi joke about how different sports would be coed and if people would think it would be interesting. Well, now that the topic has degenerated into a sprawling debate about misogynism, let's define this term. Isn't a misogynist someone who enjoys watching and making women suffer? I'm certainly not that. I'm just going out on a limb to say that girl bands often aren't as good as all guy bands and that the military is, was, and always will be unfortunatly, male dominated! If you examine these statements without shrill name calling, you will see how logical they are.
Also, props to Surfacing for at least making this into a good discussion instead of something about how much pain a gender can take.

Ahh yes, I forgot the mile-stone all bands are measured against was Slipknot's Army. Who could beat the vocal talents of Captain Clown-Face or Nail Bob-Head? I very much doubt a mere female could sound anything like the Almighty Slipknot! No sirey!


And now to the non-ironic part of my post...
Well if you're going to like a band like Slipknot who shout incoherently and loud as far as I can tell, I don't suppose you would think much of females in the music industry.

You see! it's not just all about slipknot, I don't know about you but most of those bands i just listed are not Neo metal bands, And they are all male bands!

What is the point in arguing about music? Everyone's tastes are different. Surfacing, posting that list didn't impress anyone (I like 3 of the bands off your list), and it was pointless. You like certain bands, other people like others. I didn't post that list of female artists to start an argument about musical tastes, I posted it to show you that women can quite easily and successfully make it into the music business (not the pop business, either - notice that all of my list were either proper bands or fronted proper bands). Now that I have made my point, can we drop that one, since we've already established that it is entirely down to opinion...

Danny the reason i put up a list of bands i like is to firstly to prove how many i like and also to prove that they were all male bands, the whole point of listing them was to show that the majority of great bands around the world are yes male. I'm sure you like more male bands than female bands, arn't i right?

Yes, I do. In what way does that make you right? Just because most of the bands we like are male, that does not mean that they are the only great bands. Different people's opinions are different, in case you haven't noticed. I find it irritating that not only do you use objective terminology to describe something that is inherently subjective (and, in fact, can never be anything but), but also you seem to actually believe that your opinions are absolute. The majority of the bands I like are also male, but I am able to see that that is my own opinion, and therefore I do not make sweeping objective statements about all female musicians...

You see how ironic this is, i'm saying men have better bands and i'm taking this argument up with a male! i should be argueing with a female but obviosly female's agree with me cause they are not responding to what i'm saying, i want to argue this point to a female, what's the point of you argueing with me Rettick? let the women stick up for them selfves.

It's not ironic at all if you realise that I don't split people up into two big groups called "male" and "female". If I disagree with what you are saying, I will argue. You said "i don't think i have ever heard one good women band think about it the greatest bands in the world are by men", I disagreed, and so I took you up on your point. So what if I disagree with another man and agree with a woman? Gender Segregation isn't enforced on the forums, is it?

Nothing you can say or do can change the fact the males are more poplular and more skilled when it comes to bands, believe what you like but the truth is Females are no match againest Males in terms of bands. And yes the greatest bands in the world are by men alot of people would agree with me on that, would you like me to put a poll?
