When Wil mentioned Paramonia I opened up New n Tasty and did probably the slowest run in the leader board. Every few steps I was checking for any change in the foreground or background, so either it's in the Paramonia Temple and not Paramonia, or I'm just unlucky.
I'm guessing it's some of the live ammo from SW, hidden in a nook or possibly a cranny.

I don't think so.
They are supposed to be mechanical. |
:
Is it randomized? Or in specific locations?
Pretty they're in set locations every time, one each in Scrabania and Paramonia.
EDIT: uh disregard this post i didn't realize there was a second page
I played through Paramonia again yesterday and I genuinely could not see anything out of the ordinary.
None of the floating bombs or chant suppressors appeared to be unique. I did notice some of the land mines in the Elum jump sections have some sort of extensions on them to make them cover a wider platform, but I don’t think that’s what we’re looking for here. |
The only thing I noticed about the landmines in Paramonia is that some of them were clipping through sheer rock.
E: I just crawled through all of Scrabania and Paramonia for the second time looking for anything "mechanical" even native mechanical like windmills or gas bladders. I still turned up absolutely nothing besides a few hilarious bugs. Both in Scrabania: At one point Abe's health birds were static in the air and hung there until reload, and another time at a certain checkpoint whenever I possesed a Slig and unposses the camera would focus on an invisible Abe a checkpoint back, and this Abe was able to walk on air but not pass walls. EE: I noticed that the mudokons of different areas have different tribal masks, nice touch. EEE:I noticed a cactus floating off of the side of a platform. bad touch. |
Can you not look so closely as to notice bugs, please and thank you.
Interesting they're mechanical but have also been described as characters. This would seem to discount pure machines like snoozers, greeters, chant suppressors etc that are essentially objects.
I suppose that could narrow the search down a bit? I'm thinking a mechanical variation to an existing character, so flying sligs perhaps? Though Wil did say they weren't in motion  |
:
Maybe I'm just looking too hard. |
Nothing new here? Please, post photo of steef-stone from NNT too!
If it is a variation of something we already know in Scrabania and Paramonia... Is it the Elum Traps?

The 2 "kind of characters" are so disappointing.
:
No joke.
https://twitter.com/AbeFromOddworld/...73264632111108 Hopefully this directs you to the right twitter conversation. Unless it is another two characters, it is two floating mines at the beginning and the end of the game with a blue and pink skull instead of their regular color. They also appear in Scrabania and Paramonia. |

I was really disappointed. It has nothing to do with any other oddworld games, just some OC's for inanimate objects. Oh well, lol.
O.o I can't say I was expecting that.
I do remember the devs saying it's not really a big thing, more like just a little joke. You can only blame yourselves for being hyped for that.
Fans won't get fooled again!
I wasn't particularly hyped. I was just interested to follow it and see the outcome. I'd never have guessed it would be named mines.

Being hyped for one thing doesn't mean you have to be hyped about anything else vaguely to do with that topic. That would just be silly now. Also, outright calling someone a liar can come across as extremely rude. Luckily I'm made of stronger stuff so I'll let it slide ;) |
Are there any screenshots of these?
This is a screenshot of one of the mines that appears in the beginning. Apparently they're called Bomas and Carmine and appear at the start of RuptureFarms, one each in Paramonia and Scrabania, and then one last time together in The Boardroom. The blue one gets stuck at the start of RuptureFarms and I've gone through Scrabania and Paramonia too many times searching for these two "characters" but here's some screenshots with the gamma up so it's clearer to see.
![]() ![]() E:Getting that Boardroom one was hell, I hope they fix the timing on meat saws/bone drills and UXB bombs in Soulstorm, and why Abe falls on his face in the Boardroom between the two sligs leaving basically no time to activate Shrykull before getting shot I have no idea. |
I don't remember dying as the Shrykull if the gas was activated in the original, seems that now you actually have to kill everyone and shut the sprout gas off or you'll die from it.
