My hair isn't long enough to braid it into a beard. I did try for a while to have a few braids in it like Hiccup, but it turns out that's super difficult to do to your own hair.

I've got a challenge for you fukrs: Pick up something you'd been meaning to learn and post your progress on it 5 days from now

Do I still qualify if I've already been practising for a few days?

Xorlidyr 03-08-2016 03:57 AM

Nate, that Hiccup braid could also be challenge material. Challenge us!

Manco, you do. You should be posting your progress for 5 days, as Slog Bait said.

--My progress on learning Sociology for the test--
Today: ignored completely, only was on the lesson. No shame at all.

Alf Shall Rise 03-08-2016 05:21 AM

I have to wait several months for my hair to grow out because I just got a haircut the other day and it's about an inch long now.

You did this on purpose, didn't you? Waiting until my hair was short to propose this challenge to narrow the competition.

I used to braid my hair all the time when it was longer because it made it so much lower maintinence. Couldn't keep it up once I cut it because braiding short hair is a bitch no matter who it's on.

Um absolutely

I fully expect you to post deets in the next few days

OK, I decided to learn 3D modelling. I’ve been reading about it for a while and the theory has been clicking pretty well in my head, so I wanted to give it some practice.

I picked the original Spyro games for referencing because there’s a nice mix of organic characters and inanimate objects to let me practice character modelling and some more traditional CAD-style drafting.

So here’s the first day of progress.

Xorlidyr 03-09-2016 11:23 AM

Day two. Learned nothing.

Oh sick, I haven't done any 3D modelling in years. Wasn't too fond of it, personally.

Do you plan to eventually delve into animation, or just model for fun?

Hobo 03-09-2016 10:51 PM

I challenge owf to be good.

FrustratedAssassin 03-09-2016 10:55 PM

Not possible

I’ll see how it goes. I’d like to plug some of the models I have into Unity and try and learn some of that, maybe try and work it into a little demo or something. Animation isn’t something I’ve tried yet but it’s something I’d like to try out soon.

Nepsotic 03-10-2016 09:36 AM

It's tedious and bullshit but if you have the patience to put up with modelling then you should be fine with animation.

You should be able to rig and animate your model in whichever program you're currently using. There's plenty of prebuilt rigs floating around you can probably practice with, too. I wouldn't recommend using Unity to get your start in 3D animation.

I find animating a model to be much more satisfying and enjoyable than the actual modeling process. It's worth the effort for a few laughs in unexpected rigging fuck-ups.

Yeah I’m not planning on using Unity to set up the animation, just to output them. I’m not a big fan of using prebuilt, if I’m trying to learn something then I much prefer to do it myself.

I spent most of my free time yesterday looking at tutorials for texture creation, which looked super scary before but actually makes a lot of sense.

Anyway here’s some more screenshots. Pretty basic geometric models but they were fun to make and help brush up on the nuts and bolts.

Fun fact: the purple gems in Spyro are just stretched red gems!

Xorlidyr 03-11-2016 09:30 AM

Beautiful gems.

Day three: did nothing.

STM 03-12-2016 03:41 AM

Gish you're supposed to be learning how to fly or some shit at this point.

Nepsotic 03-12-2016 04:06 AM

He already can. Don't you know how radiant he is?

Xorlidyr 03-12-2016 05:53 AM

Day four: did nothing.

I challenge everyone to dance to this and record your dance: https://youtu.be/Jz9dch-M1AM

Varrok 03-12-2016 07:49 AM

You're not very good at this, Gishy. You basically wasted 4 of 5 days you had.

Alf Shall Rise 03-12-2016 07:53 AM

I challenge everyone to do nothing.

Varrok 03-12-2016 07:56 AM

Day One:
Did something

DARN!

Alf Shall Rise 03-12-2016 08:03 AM

You're a fucking failure!

Nepsotic 03-12-2016 08:06 AM

I've done nothing for the past 3 days so I'm nearly there.

Varrok 03-12-2016 08:09 AM

I'm so sorry. It's not like I *meant* to be so productive.

I will legitimately do this if someone sends me flashy clothes to belly dance with

Xorlidyr 03-12-2016 11:06 AM

Use scarves like sashes. I am going to dance, too. Maybe, even now.

Slog Bait 03-12-2016 11:10 AM

I don't own any scarves though :(

Xorlidyr 03-12-2016 12:14 PM

Slog Bait, you could also wrap all kinds of clothing.

Here is my challenge. You would have to turn the volume up to maximum to hear the music.

Nepsotic 03-12-2016 12:17 PM

what the fucking shit

Jesus Christ I need to detox from the internet. I'm just pretty confused right now and I need to re-evaluate some key personal principles.
