I thought TzF should have twice of everything, so there should either be 6 or 8 fingers
:
It still irks me though. I would have rathered them keep the three fingers for the models, at least so the in-game graphics would be consistent. Was it JAW that did the re-texture, or did they outsource it to another company? |
Wikipedia says JAW did the HD version. I think it was the PC port of the original that was outsourced and subsequently screwed up.
:
And since they never wanted Abe to have three fingers, why would they give him three fingers in a context where they have complete freedom to do whatever they want? |
:
Well no it doesn't. People who still think it's a remake are still complaining after all this time that it's not similar enough to the original. Imagine if they called it a remake, but kept NnT as it is now. The outrage would've been much, much worse.

Definition A remake offers a newer interpretation of an older work, characterized by updated or changed assets. --check-- A remake typically maintains the same story, genre, and fundamental gameplay ideas of the original work. --check-- The intent of a remake is usually to take an older game that has become outdated and update it for a new platform and audience.--check-- A remake may also include expanded stories, often to conform to the conventions of contemporary games or later titles in the same series in order to make a game marketable to a new audience. For example, Sierra's 1991 remake of Space Quest, the developers used the engine, point-and-click interface, and graphical style of Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and The Time Rippers, replacing the dated graphics and text parser interface of the original. However, elements that had not become dated, like the narrative, puzzles, and sets, were largely preserved. Another example is Black Mesa, a Half-Life 2 mod that improves in-game textures, assets and models, and facial animations, while taking place in the events of the original Half-Life game. Hate me for this, but I would call it a remake... |
Things are even worse : if we trust Holy Sock, then Nnt is suppose to be the real AO (if Lorne had the money and everything in 1997). AO was a "happy mistake".
Interesting how we're back at semantics. Remake, remaster, re-imagining. Same shit different word.
:
Arguing semantics is what I do best
Back to the "NnT isn't a HD remake despite being a remake in HD" debate
Also, remaster is not the same thing as remake, the same way as a rerecorded album isn't the same as remastered album. |
I think Lorne wanted NnT not to be referred as a HD remake because of how much that term tossed around lot lately. HD Remakes are usually just the same game with higher resolutions or high quality models and textures. (Ratchet, Jak and Team Ico PS3 ports for example)
NnT was 100% remade from the ground up. And apart from obviously being used as a reference. I don't think anything was used from the original game at all. So having ground up remakes being classed as just another HD Remake might give a false impression of the title. Not to mention devalue the efforts of the developers. |
They were HD remasters, not HD remakes.
Either or. They both referred to the same thing usually. At least, for what I've seen.
The terms are barely different really, and that's what confuses people. |
A remake to redo a previous project from scratch.
A remaster to is use the previous project (usually with the original engine) as a base and enhance it. What's there not to understand? It's simple EDIT: You know what? Let's make it even simpler: http://pauseyourgame.com/2015/03/a-d...-hd-vs-remake/ |
We've discussed this several times. It doesn't matter what the words actually mean - they've been used and misused in many different ways over the years. We all know what OWI meant, so why the hell are you still quibbling?
Because at this point, Nate, the forum has decayed so entropically that debating semantics is a genuine topic for discussion.
Not when they've been discussed a billion times already.
:
New 'N' Tasty is a fucking remake you shits. Edit: Oh, sorry Nate. Don't be mad. |
A colleague forwarded this today. Somehow I think points 4, 5 and 6 are relevant here:

So as the last few members of a dying forum we are sabotaging ourselves...nice
Yep, that's exactly my point.
Actually, it's more like we're clinging on to the last clumps of life we've got left. Someone should unplug us and put our suffering to an end.
Alcar would certainly turn the OWF's life support off, but it requires a tiny bit of effort. We know Alcar hates making efforts.
Isn't paying for it every month even more effort?
I bet he has a credit card and it all goes fully automatic
Direct debit for OWF.
We should make our own forum. :( |
