Yeah I think having a means of voice chatting is pretty essential for the DND experience. Using a text-based chat could work for those who don't dig using a microphone (which is understandable), but might be a little awkward and sort of stifle the flow of the game. Still, better than not being there at all.

Biggest hurdle would be time zones, though.

I could try roleplaying a mute. That might be fun.

I knew someone who did that once. Pretty boring, they said.

If timezones are a problem maybe we could just play a boardgame or something? There's an online version of Diplomacy where you can set a max turn timer anywhere from a few hours to a week.

I'd be up for that. anything, man. maybe a proper D&D game is a little too ambitious considering the collective situation we're in. we could give it a go later at some point but i reckon we should first sharpen our 'grouping together to play something' skills by playing something a little simpler and seeing how everything goes. timezones, mic's, webcam's etc might be a little too much for a first-time go at playing a game together.

I think we could jump right into a DND game, though it might take some time to cook up a decent campaign. Also, a decent campaign on Roll20 costs money to create, and I don't think anyone wants to invest anything other than their time into this. Might have to get creative here.

Idea: Oddworld-based campaign? Sounds like it could either be really fun, or just plain lame and stupid. Probably the latter, but I just had to get throw the idea out there, considering what site we're on.

I think it would be a good idea for you all to try a short vanilla D&D scenario before jumping into a full campaign. That way everyone gets a good feel for how the game plays and can decide if they rolled the right character for them before having to commit, plus it wouldn’t take so much time for the DM to set up.

That's a good idea. Hell, if no else is willing to, I'll take the DM reins. Sure we could get by decently enough with what roll20 offers to cheap/poor folk like me. Free stuff.
