Probably at you, since you're the one making every single thread on this forum about speedrunning.

Were talking about movement. My PoV for movement is geared towards speedrunning because ive done it for so long. Everytime the word speedrun comes up the discussion isnt automatically about speedrunning. Unfortunately theres pretty much only 2 sides to this discussion, and one just happens to be speedrunning. Theres no way t talk about movement in this game without talking about speedrunning. Any game with speedrunning tools (leaderboards, level select, quicksaving) will have speedrunning come up in a discussion about movement. Edit: Also, the last time I even mentioned speedun was 5 posts prior, and it was about rayman compared to oddworld. |
You don't have to specifically mention something to be talking about it. You're just showing off by constantly trying to convince us you're awesome for playing a game over and over and over and over and over and over and over again just to get from point A to point B 0.001 seconds faster that the other guy.
I'm not against speedrunning, and I like to watch them sometimes, but for the love of God, please, please talk about something else for once. This thread isn't about movement as in hurr durr speed n shit, it's about moving around as a regular player, who only wants to rescue those fucking mudokons without stepping on shit or waking up sligs because they pressed the < button 0.1 seconds too long. tl;dr you annoy me to no end |
I like you. You're alright.
|
I dont give 2 shits whether any of you care that im good at the game. Where did you draw that conlusion? Was it after I keep talking about the game I love? Like everyone else? Or is it because I like to focus on gameplay and mechanics, over story and visuals?
And again. this topic was never about speedrunning. Youve now turned it into speedrunning. |
I don't know about you guys, but I have no problem with the controls...that being said I currently am going for the record of the slowest playthrough. I bought it on launch day, and I'm just about to open the hatch down to the first secret area.
I'm excited guys... |
:
Do u mean u just started playing or have gone back to find the secrets? |
Neither, he means it took him since launch day to take 12 steps.

Like, If I started playing transistor (Ive owned it for over a month) should I have said its taken me a month to beat it? |
Okay now hear me out here, I know this sounds crazy, but you might just be over thinking this a little bit.

He was joking. He was making fun of you and your obsession with speedrunning, by saying he's slowrunning the game. Because hey, guess what, you annoy him too!
|
Alright, calm down.

Ive been thinking about it. Its not that New n Tasty lacks a grid system. Its more like, the grid system has been split in 2. So there are twice as many squares per original square, and some actions take up half a square. Something I noticed while playing rupture farms over and over the last few days. (gonna get a little speedrunny here) Before recently, I didnt like Rupture farms because I couldnt find consistent strats for the secret areas. But upon finding consistent movement strategies Ive learnt more about the movement in general.
Its tough to explain, and we dont really have an official source (Since JAW only seems to want to respond to me when I complain that the games too easy...) Thoughts? |

Must just be the way all of Abes movements feel. Each movement always goes a certain distance. Makes it feel like a grid system with more flexibility. At least to me anyway.
But im playing this game like a robot, same thing everytime, so i dunno. |
You know, a game without grid feels the same as a game with a grid that has infinitely small squares.
A bit like a circle is a polygone with an infinite number of edges. |
Ok, Abe, take a step. Now Half that size. Now half again. Again. Again *ad infinitum*
Can't do that with a grid, I tell you hwut. |

Are you saying you've never thought about that before?
|
Not everyone does geometry in highschool math.
