I would actually come, and I can probably afford it, but shit like this is hard to organise when you still live your parents.

Like, most of my family don't know OWF exists. You would not believe the lies I spun to stay up playing games with Phylum, or go to OddTour '12, or stay with Wil for a week... It's an awful thing to do, but there is no good way to put "I'm travelling halfway across the country, on my own, to stay with a gay man almost twice my age, who has jokingly propositioned me for sex on multiple occasions over the course of several years, whom I met on the internet talking about video games".

I'm not prepared to lie again, but I reeeaaally don't want to have to explain who OANST is and why I need to travel halfway across the world to see him tie the knot.

Take it as a compliment. The only reason why my mum obsesses about my social life is because I didn't have one until I was in my mid-20s.

To be honest at 16 when I started going into London with girls I met on the internet six years older than me my parents probably gave up. Travelling across to America to live with my girlfriend was the final nail in the coffin. :P
