I made the horrible mistake of buying an OUYA and I still own it. This key might make me want to use it again.

Please OANST?

OANST 10-27-2014 09:28 AM

Done!

Nate 10-27-2014 11:59 PM

Wait... is that key active immediately? As in, Xav will be able to pay the game before I can, despite me being a Kickstarter backer (but not at the Beta level)?

OANST 10-28-2014 07:12 AM

Yes, it is!

Yes, he does!

Edit: The game is released, man. This is not a beta period. If you haven't gotten your keys then you should email support, and find out why.

Edit edit: Unless, of course, you also backed Massive Chalice, and assumed that's the key I gave to Xavier. He got the OUYA key for Broken Age. Not Massive Chalice.

Oh. That makes a lot more sense.

So, I've started playing Massive Chalice, or, MASSIVE CHALLICE, if you prefer. The game is about a massive challice who orders you to do things for your kingdom such as fighting with bad forces of evil and choosing which of your heroes should fuck the other one of your heroes. You can also pass time really fast and build stuff. The combat is a simplified version of the combat mechanics of Wasteland 2 or the XCOM remake, which... would be good if not the "simplified" word. As if it wasn't simple before.

The game has very stylized and pretty graphics, the sounds are great and it feels fun while playing. It's kind of humorous, I think, which is good.

It crashed after 20 minutes in and I can't get it to launch properly again.
0/10.

OANST 10-31-2014 07:33 AM

Weird. I'm not seeing a lot of people reporting crashes on the forum.

As for the simplified combat, they are looking at all feedback, and still making a lot of changes to the game before they release. This is more of a true beta period than what they did with Broken Age, where they basically just gave out the game two weeks early, and called it a beta.

Varrok 10-31-2014 07:35 AM

Is there some forums for reporting bugs and stuff?

I want to report stuff

OANST 10-31-2014 07:50 AM

Yes, there is!

Varrok 10-31-2014 07:55 AM

Okay, I can play it now. Turns out that fullscreen option is broken for many people.

OANST 10-31-2014 07:57 AM

Ahh.

Varrok 10-31-2014 08:02 AM

Also, I don't think DF is gonna add more elements to combat. I understand that it's beta, but when I look at Broken Age, Costume Quest (mostly the second one which totally crossed the line with oversimplification from what I've heard) and a few other new DF games, they seem to target more casual gamers.

OANST 10-31-2014 08:04 AM

Depends on the lead. Brad Muir does not really target casual. Iron Brigade was fucking deep mechanics wise, and that was his last lead.

Varrok 10-31-2014 08:09 AM

Well yes, IB has more enhanced gameplay mechanics (yet I really wouldn't call it casual-unfriendly).

But in beta versions they don't add much new features, just patch the bugs and do tweaks/changes to the game, the new features are for alfa versions, isn't that true?

OANST 10-31-2014 08:31 AM

Right, but there are a ton of balance issues being worked out. It's hard for me to say really, not having played the game, but it's also true that the game has a fairly small budget (about half of the Broken Age budget) so it may be true that it is feature complete at this point, and they are just polishing from this point forward.

Edit: No, Iron Brigade was not casual unfriendly......until you play Survival. Holy shit, Survival Mode is hard. You have to learn every strength and weakness in the game if you want to beat wave 100 (which is something they assumed no one would ever be able to do.) Without amazing team work, where everyone has a job, understands that job, and is outfitted accordingly, most people won't make it past wave 20. I completed wave 100 on all of the maps, and it's pretty close to being the most fun I've ever had with a video game.

Job McYossie 10-31-2014 01:56 PM

Iron brigade was fun, I should play it again. The online was kinda weird though.

Shade667 10-31-2014 07:02 PM

@ Varrok. From someone who I assumed played the original XCOM, how simplified is XCOM enemy unknown/Within? It was my first real venture into TBS (Not including Age of mythology for DS), and I thought it was fucking brutal. It wasnt what Id call simple (having not played the original).
How difficult is the original?

Varrok 10-31-2014 11:42 PM

You order a marine to go around the building corner, and the moment he goes out of the corner, a shot from unexplored location is seen which kills the marine. Normal difficulty (There are like 3 difficulties more)

The original is much more complex in terms of details. For example its you who decide of the layout of your bases and it is vital not only from economic viewpoint (some buildings are larger, some are not, so you have to manage free space) but if aliens attack your base the game generates an isometric map from your layout and comes into battle mode. The base is so perfectly mapped that even the smallest elements, like if you bought a five plasma guns and two magazines in general stores at that base, there *will be those 5 guns and two magazines as an item lying on that particular building floor at the map*. How crazy is that?

There's more and more.
