The only thing I don't like about the screenshot is the weird green lighting near the bottom of the walkways. It makes it look really "funhousey".

It's a key part of the Paramonian aesthetic, and I can assure you that it only gets greener.

:

How did the Mudokons even make them balls? I've never thought about it before but it'd be pretty difficult to make a perfect sphere out of rock with primitive tools, let alone stick wood through them.

Varrok 08-22-2013 01:43 PM

Should be greener.

Slog Bait 08-22-2013 01:43 PM

They could have always made some kind of cement-like mixture, shaped it into a sphere, and jammed wood in it before it dried and called it a day

The real question here is how do they get them to swing indefinitely

Maybe it was the bats making the spikey balls swing this whole time

Yes, but for some reason it just doesn't fit as well as the originals. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking and it never actually worked at all.
I doubt it, though.

Isn't there a rotating windmill in Paramonia in one of the backdrops? A windmill's purpose is to harness energy from the wind. Maybe the boulders are powered by a windmill and the energy is transferred to a mechanical system that swings the boulders

MeechMunchie 08-22-2013 02:12 PM

Maybe the rotation of the windmill blows the boulders across

Varrok 08-22-2013 02:29 PM

I like to think that there's a mudokon inside each ball and he swings it somehow.

Through an elaborate series of contraptions, of course!

Actually, that could have been true, if they haven't shown that the balls are just tied to the roof. In the original you can't see the end of the rope.

Manco 08-22-2013 02:47 PM

You people are never happy.

seriouslyoddfan 08-22-2013 05:13 PM

This screenie looks absolutely gorgeous. Good job, JAW. It really looks like the "atmosphere" will make it through the translation.

Abe16 08-22-2013 07:05 PM

Hells yes. I cannot wait to see this released.

there's plenty of evidence in and around stone henge of stone spheres carved by hand back in the stone age. they reckon they may have used them to ease the transportation and movement of the big fuck-off stones there. so yeah it'd take intelligence, but it's not exactly rocket science/brain surgery either.

also i never thought the spikes went completely through. i would have thought it easier to insert them only part way through after drilling/chiseling a hole, yet still enough to adequately hold it's weight. as long as it fits snug and the material is strong.

Bullet Magnet 08-22-2013 09:52 PM

I figures they were petrified paramite egg cases.

V_O_T 08-22-2013 09:59 PM

Excellent job JAW. Nailed it.

The developer blog that was done for the Stranger's wrath remake was great. It should be done for this, but limiting the information we get from it so that there's still surprise and huge interest in the actual game release. If not for New 'n' Tasty, then for the next game. It keeps us excited.

A blog could have been done for this image, with a bit of a story behind how the imge was produced, the development of the scene, technical limitations, hopes for the final product, work arounds. Things that are normal for developers, but inspirational for us fans.

OddChipango 10-08-2013 07:07 PM

This just got posted yesterday on OI's website.

Slog Bait 10-08-2013 07:49 PM

COULD IT BE?

Why, yes it could...

It's...

the right green

Bullet Magnet 10-08-2013 08:18 PM

Yeah, but the status sign is the wrong yellow.

Varrok 10-08-2013 11:25 PM

Fuck yeah, right green!
