You are all forgetting the most important, canine, factor here.

Daxter King 05-21-2013 01:21 PM

MS reps on twitter are saying there is no fee to used games, and they are working to get the articles saying that there is down.

Wait, where was it stated that PS4 will also block used games?

Wait, where was it stated that PS4 will also block used games?

It is up to publishers on PS4, and if the XO versions are used blocked, I have no doubt the PS4 versions of those games will also be. So Sony might not do it to their games, but that will be a small portion of the total games on PS4.

MS has tried and failed to clarify on what their system for used games will be. Phil Spencer said there will be a fee to play a used game, since all games will be installed and you don't need the disc after installing. He also said you can bring it to your friend's places, you just have to sign into your account. It also sounded like multiple accounts will be able to play games on the same XO. You will be able to sell and buy used games, but he didn't say as to whether or not you will have to pay for the used game in the store and a fee. It's still very muddled.

Quantum Break and Forza 5 have been confirmed as not CG, running on XO hardware. No word on the EA game stuff, but those two looked better than any of that IMO.

Strike Witch 05-21-2013 10:16 PM

Do you have a link, though?

Like, a statement where publishers or whatever had said.

There's hope for the Xbox One yet.

Why in seven bloody hells are they calling it Xbox One?

So Microsoft can finally show its true love for its fans.

All-in-one

Vyrien 05-22-2013 01:12 AM

One Xbox to rule them all.
One Xbox to find them.
One Xbox to bring them all.
And in the darkness bind them.

Clearly representing its multimedia capabilities.

The 'Always Online' thing has reared its head again. Apparently you don't have to always be online to use the console, but you'll basically be heavily limited if you are offline.

Xavier 05-22-2013 04:32 AM

I actually thought it was good to leave the whole TV/sports aspect of the Xbox out of the E3 conf and dedicate the E3 conf only to games. This whole "it has no games" response is ridiculous. During the event they have stated numerous times that the games will have their own damn show at E3. This part was to get rid of the other stuff. And yet they gave us 3 games in it, including one Call of Duty. (I'm not a COD fan at all but it's still serious business)

The main bad points here is that they did not address (and when they did, they did it so poorly Microsoft had to issue statements retracting or clarifying the claims) the nasty rumors about the "always connected" and resell policy.

Personally I'm excited about this and I can't wait to see what is going to be announced at E3, where the real gaming talk is going to take place.

TL;DR this show was not aimed at you guys. It's the E3 show that will be.

STM 05-22-2013 05:57 AM

Wait, you're saying that the Xbox One reveal wasn't aimed at its target market? I.e. the people that might buy an Xbox One? Bizarre.

Havoc 05-22-2013 06:03 AM

I think the point is that the target market is no longer just gamers.

Ask yourself who might buy an Xbox One.

The Xbox isn't only about games, if you're surprised by this you were not paying attention. The Xbox has always been designed as an entertainment hub trying to find its place in your living room. It plays games but it also does other stuff.

As Havoc just said, the target market is no longer just gamers. Of course Xbox will still please gamers. But this market will have to wait until the E3 to have the stuff they are interested in.

Initial thoughts on hearing the name: Xbox One
Terrible name. Far worse than PS Vita, Wii U and 3DS.

After reading what the console promises...
From what I have read, it's the following case;
1) Do you like watching TV shows? Buy a Xbox One!
ELSE
2) Buy a Wii U / PS4 / Great PC

There is apparently some solution to the used games problem but so far they've remained shifty about it, presumably it involves paying a one-time fee to activate a used game but we'll see in due time.

So far no major Xbox-only titles and the lack of support for indies is strange at best.
I'm enjoying Black Ops 2 too much right now, with good customisation, Ghosts might be fun but I'm not entirely sure that a yearly release for a CoD game is a good idea. The old games had dogs already so unless this does something amazing, it will be just another CoD going up against Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six (which already do squad-based things fantastically).

So far the PS4 is winning everyone in terms of coolness and appeal, time will tell to see who will win the console war (if one even exists anymore due to diversification)

OANST 05-22-2013 10:45 AM

PS4 has not won me at all. I owned a 600.00 PS3, and bought three games for it. One of which I didn't like, and one was a rerelease from PS2. I am definitely not sold on the idea of PS4.

Daxter King 05-22-2013 10:57 AM

Typically Sony's first party efforts don't entice me near as much as MS's do or even Nintendo's.

Hey, what about the third one?

OANST 05-22-2013 11:36 AM

It was okay.

Manco 05-22-2013 12:38 PM

I feel like Sony hasn’t won me over, but so far their announcement has stood up far better than Microsoft’s. It focused heavily on games and they went to a lot of effort to show gameplay footage and invite lots of developers to the stage to talk about their games. Compare how Microsoft’s first guest was an EA rep, and the other two were a Microsoft Studios rep and a guy who makes Call of Duty.

From what we know, PS4 and Xbox One are on par in most ways – set for release later this year, similar specs and architecture, similar sharing features etc. But Sony has put games and their developers front and center in their pitch, and Microsoft pushed sports and TV. That says an awful lot, I think.

Daxter King 05-22-2013 12:49 PM

MS has said repeatedly that games are the focus of E3, and not of this initial announcement, even before they announced the Xbox One. Games are clearly a part of their plan, even if they didn't show much here. 15 exclusives in the first year and more in development than ever before, yeah, sounds likes no games to me.

OANST 05-22-2013 12:56 PM

If I thought Live Arcade was going to be half as interesting and innovative on the new Xbox, I wouldn't care about any of this. Too many developers are jumping ship from that platform because of Microsoft's policies, though.

STM 05-22-2013 01:30 PM

I think it's a shame the Ouya turned out to be so damned average. Cheap games, doesn't always have to be online, cheap console, no subscriptions to anything. Just gaming. Shame it's crap. I was really hoping it would - in its own way - contend with this upcoming generation.

I don't understand how people didn't know it would be crap. It didn't even sound like an interesting concept. It just sounded like a shovelware generator for your tv.

STM 05-22-2013 02:36 PM

Shame though, I genuinely thought it had potential to be something interesting. Apparently the real problem is two fold. Firstly that the way the categorise games is beyond odd. Secondly, they aren't any games.

OANST 05-22-2013 02:49 PM

When I first saw the Kickstarter I was like "Okay. A cheap piece of shit running on Android technology that I can hook up to my tv, and will play thousands of really awful games that I will have to sift through, all of them having microtransactions....that will never make it out of Kickstarter." Later, when I saw it got funded, I just kept repeating "You stupid motherfuckers" over and over in my head.
