The third bombing wasn't a bombing, turns out it was an unrelated fire.

Daxter King 04-18-2013 09:07 PM

Holy fuck, apparently there are more explosions going off, two policemen are down, the guys stole a police SUV.

What the fuck

edit: they got one of the fuckers, the other guy is about to have his brains blown out, cops all on his ass, i hope they rip him to shreds

edit 2:fbi is heading there

AlexFili 04-19-2013 02:07 AM

It's disgusting that someone would specifically target a fundraising event where people with families are likely to be. Whoever committed such a crime should be very ashamed of themselves.

STM 04-19-2013 02:38 AM

Christ, I hope they keep the second fucker alive, they need him for interrogation in case there's more.

e: Breaking news, they're Chechen, living in the USA for a year. Literally just found that out on WCVB.

Strike Witch 04-19-2013 04:50 AM

And they're Islamic.

Fuck.

Crashpunk 04-19-2013 04:54 AM

And they're Islamic.

Fuck.

Lucky the era of ill-thought out immediate decisions is over. If George Dubbya was still in the White House I think we'd have more to worry about.

Wings of Fire 04-19-2013 05:50 AM

I somehow doubt Bush would try to invade a glorified vassal of Russia.

How is that any worse than killing innocent people walking down the street? These are terrorists that you're talking about.

Wings of Fire 04-19-2013 06:12 AM

Alexfili is far and away the whitest person in this thread.

Yeah, I'd like to clarify I meant 'knee jerk reactions' but I couldn't remember the term. I wasn't suggesting he would flat out invade but let's be honest, he wasn't known for his calm and deliberated approach to foreign policy.

scrabface 04-19-2013 03:12 PM

this whole boston story is crazy. and I am not only talking about the two bombers.
why are people following this shit in such a maniac way?

Hazel-Rah 04-19-2013 03:55 PM

Because the media likes to turn this shit into a movie, which is why there are so many mass murderers in America who want to be on the news.

The media is privatised and will do anything for ratings.

Phylum 04-19-2013 04:27 PM

So they found the second bomber. I'm watching live as they try to film the area that they aren't allowed into, while a journalist points out the other media and keep us updated on every police officer who wipes their nose.

Apparently he has explosives on him. They're worried he's going to commit suicide. Other media say he's already been captured. I don't know what the hell to believe with our media.

The media coverage of this is awful. I don't understand why this is plastered over every channel right now. Surely things have happened in Australia overnight that are more interesting than watching a reporter rehash the same information over and over again from 15 blocks away. She's talking about how it would be easier for him to get away because it's dark.

I haven't posted here yet, because I haven't had much to add. This is tragic.

e: Ok, according to Sky News he might be dead. Another channel have referenced that and are referring to "the body" and how they are going to ensure it doesn't explode getting it out of the boat.

Vyrien 04-19-2013 04:55 PM

"Suspect in Custody" according to Boston Police Tweet

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...-says/2095845/

Phylum 04-19-2013 05:01 PM

15 minutes on and our media, who are filming live, have finally caught on.

DarkHoodness 04-19-2013 05:14 PM

And the media circus continues.

Phylum 04-19-2013 05:20 PM

Apparently the police just all let out a cheer. There's applause. They've caught him, again?

Vyrien 04-19-2013 05:22 PM

We might never know.

Phylum 04-19-2013 05:29 PM

Now our media are talking about how young men in today's society have no clear rolemodels and can fall into disarray.

I really feel bad from dragging this thread down, away from the tragedy at hand, but I just can't ignore this.

That made me think of this quote from the gun control debate, from Senator Mike Enzi (Republican, obviously): "One of the things we need are parents to be more careful and more repetitive at telling their kids that it is not right to kill people!"

Well that'll solve everything, then.

Hazel-Rah 04-19-2013 10:32 PM

I can't wait to hear which video game they practiced on, maybe Bomberman?

Don't start this. On another forum I visit one video game obsessed idiot was churning out defensive crap about how games don't make kids violent within hours of the initial bombing.

I stopped reading The Escapist because of this. Every time any person died violently in the world, their staff writers would immediately start throwing up hyper defensive articles about why video games weren't to blame before anyone even had a chance to try to blame video games. And if some local news report from Shitheel, Kentucky did go ahead and say that video games may have played a role? Watch the fuck out. Pages and pages of snotty little shits talking about how disgusting these people are for saying that their ultra violent toys may have played a part in the disaster. And it's not that they're wrong. Video games don't create violent people. It's that they are fat, whiny, snivelling shut ins that don't give a single fuck about innocent life being lost. All they want to do is shout their righteous indignation about "My toys are important art! My toys didn't kill you!" And it made me sick every fucking time, and I will never go to that site again.

STM 04-20-2013 08:47 AM

I find it interesting that I've heard nothing about Korea since this, obviously it wasn't as important as everyone made out because the media isn't reporting on the nigh on end of the world that they made it out to be.

OANST 04-20-2013 09:24 AM

I think mostly it's because the DPRK has taken this opportunity to step back into the shadows, and pretend they didn't say a goddamn thing.

STM 04-20-2013 09:52 AM

I reckon they realised at this point it's not a good idea to piss off the US any more.

DarkHoodness 04-20-2013 03:14 PM

Nope, a quick search shows that the situation still continues. Just most media outlets think we're bored of it or something. NK are in talks to secure oil imports from Iran - Someone else who hates the west over sanctions on nuclear technology.

STM 04-20-2013 04:22 PM

Sanctions on a country like Iran are stupid because they're a rising power in the Middle East and the west vitally needs the oil that they can supply. If we lose those sorts of contracts to countries like NK then it's just as dangerous as letting Iran develop its nuclear programme unimpeded.

Havoc 04-22-2013 01:49 PM

The guy in custody has been charged with... and hang on to your chairs, this is funny; the fatal use of weapons of mass destruction.

All these years everyone was wondering why the US thought Iraq had WMD's since it was pretty evident they didn't have any nukes. Turns out the definition of 'weapon of mass destruction' in the US is now scaled down to small bombs that barely have the power to break a window.

Yes, it's terrible what happened but charging the guy with having used (what you'd expect to be) nothing short of a nuke is down right ridiculous and not in the least of all scary since it makes the difference between life in jail or the death penalty.
